@Random_Matt: Yeah, most already have Switch and not ready to spend more money on a handheld.

But I’d get Switch Lite over Deck Lite. It’s half the price.

@xantufrog: Ok. But you re not the center of the universe. Your personel feelings dont change reality. Valves hardware discontinuation happened for mentioned reason. Love and the devil? It is a corporation and their doing is not exempt from judgement.

I would say the same thing about you man - you're making blanket statements about this being bad tech, but won't say why. It's clearly based on your personal views of the value of the device and not reality. "You're not the center of the universe." I'm not talking about sales or how appealing it is to YOU. I'm talking PURELY about is it good tech. You said no - but that simply isn't true.

The reality is: good tech, flopped+discontinued. Sales=/=quality.

I don't know why you have judged it so harshly - you dodged my very first polite question about that. I'd hazard a guess you haven't one, and are making assumptions based on its lack of success, given the way this is going. But even if you played with one and decided it wasn't for you, you'd still be wrong to say it is bad tech. Those aren't the same thing.

*edit* as for the love and devil thing - yup. Exactly. Don't personalize these corps. You need to decouple from this weird anti-valve thing. They didn't kill your dog. I don't love them. In fact I much prefer to buy from GoG. I also think hating them is bonkers - it's a corp. They don't care about us and we shouldn't care about them. This is a simple conversation about a specific controller. Can it do things the X1 and DS controllers cannot? Yes. Pure and simply, by definition, then, it has purpose - at least for some people. Period. There's no room to be some brand loyalist/oppositionist about it.

I find it funny now, that when Nintendo released its handheld 4 years ago people were knocking the 720p, now all I read about this steam deck device is how 720p is perfect for the screen size haha

@com2006: And people we making fun of Switch no having an Ethernet built in. Now they’re gonna buy a device without one, old LCD tech, 720p, no Dock to boost performance like Switch, no removable controllers, no enhanced sound, super small storage space for AAA that take 100-200g each. Heck, they don’t even give you an adapter to plug to a tv. Plus not all your games will even run on this thing. And Steam OS is slow to get game support. The hate Nintendo gets is real, people turn a blind eye to other companies.

When this thing is out, literally everyone will compare it to the Switch, and the Switch will lose 100% of time. The negativity train will begin🤷‍♂️

I was going to pick one up but had second thoughts. It looks an interesting system but the one I wanted was to much to spend on a handheld.

  • It's 720P for a reason. OLED would increase the price, and considering the hardware compared to a switch, the battery life as well.
  • The Switch dock doesn't boost performance on its own as there's no extra hardware in the Switch dock. The dock simply unlocks the switch internal power and system clocks. If the deck is plugged in, the CPU will get more power, hence a performance boost same as a Switch. Laptops work the same.
  • Adaptors to plug into a TV/monitor are extremely cheap and you won't need a preoperatory one.
  • Not all of your games will run no, at least not on the built in Steam OS. But you can still install Windows.
