Liked Torment and Cryostasis. Can't think right now of a third one.

Even if HL2 had a good story, the fact that the fucking game doesn't have an ending pretty much excludes it from this list.

Well, just MGS2 in my case... for the "wrong" reasons.

2.- Final Fantasy XI: Online (counting the expansions which are directly tied to the mian story.)

3.- Metal Gear solid Series

There are hardly any stories in video games I'd care to remember let alone differentiate which one of them is the best.

Hmm, thinking of a top 3 would make me feel bad not mentioning the countless other great games with great stories, but I feel I should use the opportunity to at least give a shout out to Shadow of the Colossus, due to it's effective and minimalist use of story to create a pretty memorable experience.

Spec Ops: The Line isn't an FPS.

True true, my mistake. It does have an epic story though.

Actually, it's story is more of a character study spanning just a day or two in an enclosed area. Not exactly an "epic," really. Epic is your stuff like Lord of the Rings or Les Miserables.

Planescape Torment and KOTOR are the only 2 really good stories I can think of. Most of the others are just hack. Even BG's story, which is one of my absolute fav game's ever, is pretty weak.

Definitions are not a matter of taste.

I hated Red Dead Redemption at first but it definitely picks up after a while. I think as far as endings go that was the one that I enjoyed the most next to 999. Mass Effect was pretty amazing at first when everything building up towards the third game. Hearing about the Reapers was awesome but the ending completely ruined it. I really enjoyed Ezio's storyline in his trilogy and I thought the ending to his story was pretty awesome.
