The Wii was just a last gen system with a gimmick, the Wii U will end up being the same. Tablet controller might be ok, it might not, but that alone does not make it next gen and it does not make a jump in tech.
Regardless I will buy a Wii U because of Nintendo's 1st party. I buy every Nintendo and Sony system.
ShadowMoses900
That's really good you'll buy one. I've experienced all systems over the 7th gen.
I think once you get a Wii U in your house, all updated, spend a bit of time with it - I think you'll see potential for some really fantastic games. It's not all about 16 times anisotropic filters with super sampling anti aliasing etc etc.
I will buy one eventually, just not right now. Only game for it that impresses me is Zombie U (GS review was way off the mark IMO) and New Super Mario Bros 2 or whatever. Not enough right now, once Zelda comes out I'm going to be all over it.
I'm not opposed to the next Xbox either, but I don't see it offering much for me. But everyone is different and to each their own. PS4 and Wii U are no brainers for me.
Yeah. Plus, if you wait long enough, Zombi U will be about twenty bucks.
Naturally like all brand new consoles there is a lack of games. Smart decision to hold off for the time being.
Fun talking to you SM900.

At worst, Wii-U's hardware power is equal to the PS3 and the 360. As stated countless times, console gens are defined by times of release, and not by tech jumps. And on the topic of tech jumps, Wii-U is a fairly decent jump away from Nintendo's previous console, Wii...
Also, how come you're back?
Face it, you may hate it and all, but resisiting the SW is impossible!
DarkLink77
It is not defined by times of release, maybe to you on SW but to me it is when their is actual jump in quality and tech. The Wii U is a current gen system that will become a last gen system when the next Xbox releases.
I rarely post here anymore, this thread is not a fanboy thread so it's fine for now.
The idea that the Wii-U is not a jump in tech or quality is laughable. It has significantly more RAAM than the PS3 or the 360. It has a better GPU. It has a decent CPU. It has Blu-Ray, which was not around in '05. It has a tablet controller, again, not possible in '05. The hardware is, objectively, better. Anyone claiming otherwise is either a fool who is ignorant of what the Wii-U is or a blind fanboy.LMFAO. Are people dumb enough to actually buy into the Ouya?mems_1224I don't know, Kinect sells well.
Next gen isn't here despite what some people on here say. The Wii U is not a next gen console from what I have seen, it's just current gen with tablet controller. Next gen starts when there is a jump in tech.
People that say it's when a new console launches are wrong, by that logic if someone realesed a system with the specs of an N64 would you consider it next gen as well? No you wouldn't. The Wii U is not next gen, next gen will only start with PS4 and the next Xbox.
ShadowMoses900
There's a difference between a step back and a small step forward. The Wii U is a next generation Console, it's more powerful than all the current gen Console by a good margin. Next gen is PS4/720/Wii U. That's the way it is.

What is the world coming to when you can make a Stefan Eriksson joke and no one gets it?
I suppose the same root cause is responsible for people getting excited about the Ouya. No sense of history.
there are phones coming out that are way more powerful than the ouya so its a POS really. anyone who waists there money on it are well not smart. if i want to play games with graphics as bad as this thing produces ill save $30 and go buy a PS2 from gamestop.
I don't mind if this system became popular.
As long as it would allow more developers to create great games.
Then those games will most likely come to Windows and I would get them.
Some of the games I had the most fun with were simple indie games.
RyviusARC
Thats what I think too. All OUYA needs to be succesfull is a killer app. Currently I feel like people see its running on Tegra 3 and think all you will get on it is Angry Birds and Temple Run.
But the reason games like Angry Birds and Temple Run are popular is not because of Tegra 3, its because the nature of touchscreen devices like tablets and smartphones - it is impossible to control a more complicated game on them properly.
OUYA on the other hand is a proper console with proper controller. Games developed for it will be completely different than the shovelware we get on our iPads.
One real killer app and this console is an instant hit.

All i want is the next gen Xbox.
BlbecekBobecek
Its nice to see someone with such low demands.
And also a fanboy we don't know for sure what the PS4 of nextbox is going to bring yet he is already set on getting a xbox. Would suck if the ps4 turned out so much better but you got to play on a worse console because of being a fanboy. Just wait until both are shown then make up your mind thats what I'm doing. Both have to impress me to get my money this time round. I'm not going to get a PS4 just because I have a PS3[QUOTE="PhazonBlazer"]

It is the successor to the Wii which was a seventh gen console, therefore it is an eight generation console.
It's current gen. It's basically a 360 with a tablet. I don't consider it next gen.
Like i said, if they released a new system with the same specs as an N64 would you consider it next gen as well? Next gen has not arrived yet, the Wii is a last gen system and the Wii U is only current gen, soon to become last gen with the release of the next Xbox and PS4.
I agree. It's not a next-gen system in my book.

Cherokee_Jack
It's an open system sold at a roughly breaking-even price. The customer doesn't depend on it succeeding commercially.

Powerful enough or not, WiiU is the first 'next gen' console, just like Wii is in the same generation of PS3 and 360. It's hardware is disappointing, i agree, but that's another story.
Wii U is far beyond current gen. Note that launch titles on ps3 and 360 looked pretty meh, and not much of a step up from the previous gen either. I firmly believe that ps4 and 720 are going to use Wii U as a target for what they have to reach for and make some minor hardware improvements on that, because there's no reason to go overboard, because nobody will buy them, and everyone will buy the far cheaper Wii U. Sony and m$ aren't stupid, they saw the success Wii had. Get ready to be underwhelmed by the numbers. As for the ouya, I don't want to play mobile "games" on my tv. I don't want to play them at all. Flop console, flop idea, nope. This mobile game market is awful because it's full of what are basically flash games. 5 minutes of fun, 0 value for money.Next gen isn't here despite what some people on here say. I thought this system was a joke
Why the hell would anyone buy system dedicated for multiplatform indie games...
Zurrur
Uhm... to play indie games?
Also there are big names among the developers that are jumping on the train (like minecraft dev) and many of the games to be expected shall due to the uniqueness of OUYA most likely be exclusive (or at least require you to buy a controller to your Tegra 3 device to play them).
i thought this had died.. wasnt it supposed to be out by now? anyways, it could be an interesting piece of tech, it may even keep the really awesome and super popular onlive alive..
anyway i think i will be passing on this..
mooooo99
It hadnt died, it had a target of USD 900 000 on kickstarter and it earned over 8 mil.
No exclusives?Heil68
OUYA actually is getting some exclusives already and because of the open dev platform it is safe to expect tons of exclusives on it.

Going by that logic, the Wii and the Gamecube belonged to the same generation., and only the PS360 competed in the seventh generation. And I thought you left this place because of the fanboys? So, shoo. OT, I think the Ouya Will be a great platform for Indie developers to shine. Either that, or it gets raped and pillaged by pirates almost immediately. Still, I'm buying it. For that pricetag, you can hardly go wrong. It doesn't matter because when the next Xbox and PS4 are shown, you will see what next gen is really about and the Wii U will look obsolete by the real next gen standards. You can go by time if you want, but that's not where the progress is, progress is done by actual tech advancement.
The Wii U is only current gen soon to be last gen, no amount of wikipedia articles or random website quotes is going to change that.
