I can't do two.
I though Grand Theft Auto 4 was a suprisingly deep character drivien story. It was fantastic, and Liberty City was also a great character.
Bioshock really deserves a mention. The world was so detailed and beutiful.
Halo 3, though not quite as ambitious as both, was quite good, and ended great.
Left 4 Dead 2's player driven stories are excellent. Valve is really pushing the video game narrative.
Penumbra. It was quite simple, but the experience was unlike anything, Amnesia failed to capture it's magic. Red was a chilling charectar, and the narrative was thoughtfully told. Clarence was also quite intersting.
As of recently:
Okay, everyone is gonna KILL me for this, but Modern Warfare 3's latter half was amazing. I actually started to care a bit for the characters. "Blood brothers" had a great flashback sequence, and the ending was a very good wrapping up of the MW trilogy. I wouldn't say it's the best, but I can't remember the earlier ones of this gen. They are most likely better but this is a recent one I have liked.
