It wasnt a huge gimmick. The games are great and old school but why does this have to come along with a price? Graphics aint got nothing to do with it and neither does online its just the whole motion thing. I really dont want to see Sony and Microsoft do this too, an addon is fine but hopefully they dont change the system. Who agrees?

There are plenty of problems with the Wii to go around, we don't need continuous threads bout them. Yes we get it, the on-line is practically non existant and when it is you almost wish it wasn't, with those 1994 styIe IP address stand ins called friend codes crippling every game.

Third party games have been few and far between and this makes it's overall library compared to the PS3/360/PC extreamly weak even when compared to just multiplats. Motion contols have no place in 90% of games, they just stand in for button presses. There are storage problems and it can't play DVDs.

These are pretty much a given, you can enjoy the Wii despite these flaws but as a solitary system it does not measure up at all. We all know this. It's been said and siad and said

The motion controls are okay and you are right, they do feel like it was put in there only because it is a wii. Though it does work in some games.

The motion controls are nice, pity about the wii's graphics. I don't really mind if future consoles use motion sensor, because they will improve if they do.

No, the fact that your name here is PSFanboy101 makes you a fanboy.

Three years of great sales, and the development of games like Wii Sports Resort that provide 1:1 motion control take away the gimmick label. Look at how Sony and Microsoft are trying to incorporate motion control for their systems.

The wii does have it's flaws, like the PS3 and 360. So what? If you don't like the system, don't use it.

And expect to have threads to have a life of their own. That's the best part os SW wars, open discussion that can go anywhere. Deal with it.

The only thing I don't like about the Wii is the forcing of motion controls on you. If they would've just used a standard controller like the classic controller and made the Wiimote an accessory usable on some games, I would've been happier. I might give in though and get a Wii because I want the Metroid games.

If the Wiimote was an accessory the Wii would loose it's hook and would make Nintendo loose the Console War. You wouldn't be happy you would just complain that the Wii sucks comparied to the HD consoles.

after last gen, i think nintendo was going to make the wii the last home console if it bombed and just stick to handhelds. they were not making enough off of console due to people abandoning them so they did the innovative nintendo thing with out the high end tech nintendo always did till then. the wii would also be hands down the best if it had the third party support of the other consoles, graphics do not kill gameplay and being as big of a retro gamer as i am, i have come to believe a great game is always great where good and ok games age quickly and not so well

I think Nintendo has stated that if they had to quit making consoles, they'd stop making games as well. Nintendo is the last integrated hardware and software company there is, and it shows. You're right that the Wii would be much better if third parties didn't simply ignore it, but they need a change in mindset before they can take the Wii seriously and understand how to make great-selling titles for it. Too many developers seem fixated with "vision" and "epic plots" and such instead of "fun".

It needed comparable hardware to the PS3 and 360. Especially considering now its only $50 cheaper than the top-of-the-line models of both. Because without it, third-parties can't easily port their games to the Wii and then have to compete with Nintendo on their own ground... and most of them don't have the resources to go up against games like Super Mario Galaxy.

The waggle gimmick is fine... I just wish there was better third party support. Even the Gamecube didn't fail as badly as the Wii in that realm. At least there was games like BG&E, Eternal Darkness, P.N.03, Resident Evil's out the ass, Viewtiful Joe, Rogue Squadron, Timesplitters, Ikaruga, killer7... etc. And the only games that really come close to their calibre on the Wii, are No More Heroes, Madworld and Muramasa... and they still fall short.

Why do Wii owners need ports for proof of great third party support? And Eternal Darkness wasn't a third party game. It was a first/second party game. Silicon Knights developed it, while Nintendo published it. Not only that, most of the games you brought up were from one third party publisher, Capcom. And having just them dosen't mean better support.

A partially agree. For some games motion control is better with, like sports and games with swords, FPS would be better if the developers would learn how to make good controls, and some games just suck with motion controls, like Mario Galaxy.

Nintendo struck a deal with Capcom that made the Resident Evil series exclusive to Nintendo for all the 7th generation.

The problem is, RE4 was delayed so much that it came out at the end of the generation.

Mario Galaxy didn't use motion control, since it was a traditional game. The only actual use is in the levels that use a different gameplay mechanic, like the Monkey ball level or the Wave Race level. Shaking is not motion control by the way.

Wow. Anyway, the stats are supposed to have been changed. It's a new game. Attacks that were considered unfair in Melee are weakened while other attacks are stronger. They made the game even more balanced. And besides, why would you play Brawl with a GCN controller? It plays better with a D-Pad.

Imo the wiis problem is that its just an n64 if rareware didnt make games for it. Nintendo needs a company like rareware to put out games that are similar, and yet polar opposite to their own. Nintendos support for it, imo is just as good as ever with the amount of games, but they are lacking their yin to their yang.

Although it doesn't annoy me, I agree. Imagine how great if we had a counterpart to Mario Galaxy with the same score, a counterpart to Mario Kart with the same score, a counterpart to Brawl with the same score. Banjo, Diddy Kong Racing, and Killer Instinct.....

If it was a gimmick, it would have died in the first year.

But i know what your saying. Nintendo had to spend a lot of time during console development making the WiiMote, so next console gen they will have the graphics down (hopefully) :P

A partially agree. For some games motion control is better with, like sports and games with swords, FPS would be better if the developers would learn how to make good controls, and some games just suck with motion controls, like Mario Galaxy.

Mario Galaxy didn't use motion control, since it was a traditional game. The only actual use is in the levels that use a different gameplay mechanic, like the Monkey ball level or the Wave Race level. Shaking is not motion control by the way.

There was a pointer thing in Galaxy, and the shake could have easily been replaced with a button.

Although i DO think it is the best console this gen it's just ironic that the genres that would be most beneficial to the Wiimote are the ones that usually require more horsepower or are genres that push graphics (FPS' and RTS mostly) So develpopers are being kinda hesitant about making these kind of games on the Wii.

The pointer is not motion control and it's the single biggest impact in the game. In fact, the pointer is what makes Mario Galaxy impossible on other consoles without having to change level design. The Spin Attack could have been replaced with a button, but then what would be the point?

I'm saying that it should have used the Gamecube or Cla$$ic controller.

Don't know about that, the regular controller settings are fun
