I purchased the Wii three times, and every single time I was hoping my mind would changeabout the Wii but it simply disappoints in every way imaginable. Innovation? Wii remote? Hah, not really. I'll rather go outside and simulate real life things. Lack of HD support = big time epic fail. Gotta pull out the old tube to play the Wii games? How f'in pathetic. A lot of the games are recycled. Zelda, Mario, same crap. Resident Evil 4, yawn. Feels like the same crap. Nintendo is going backwards more than foward. I respect that they want to keep the ****cs alive but get with the times. Keep the ****cs but put some modern architecture into the games. The Wii is the biggest fad of this decade, next to coach bags. Nintendo has come from a household name to a bloodsucking cash cow. Its a pop culture phenomenon. Nintendo wins at marketing. Plain and simple.

From a business standpoint, they are the obvious winner so far. Not that I give a **** about their financial well-being, though. But just saying, fads are very profitable. Next generation, there'l be just another new brilliant trend by Nintendo.

i agree that the wii is a fad, but only partly because no more than 8 million of the wii fanbase are actually gamers that buy actual games(such as brawl, SMG, etc.) so that means the majority of it's sales and "sucsess" are due to its mass media hype, however there are some actual gamers that buy it and it needs to be accreditied for taht.

Oh by the way here is a list of some fads of the past several years. Note that many of these lasted well over a couple of years indicating length has nothing to do with the perception of being a fad.
