WiiU will go down in history as one of the worst consoles of all time, even with its handful of good games.
lolno. Much,much worst existed before

Or Nintendo finally responds to all this short coming, gets their Mario or Zelda or whatever for launch year stuff, but really focuses on bringing in new IP to the table. I'm perfectly content with Metroid never making a comeback if it means Nintendo finally begins doing new things more aggressively.
Hopefully Nintendo can give some of the classics love as well as make new franchises. They definitely need some new blood though.

I'm all about Nintendo doing some new shit, that's always a good thing, but I won't lie. People rag on Nintendo fans for always wanting more Mario/Zelda/Metroid, but you know what? I'm one of those terrible fans. I like my damn Nintendo staples.
I know it's a tired formula, I know that only on occasion do they do something amazing with one of those IPs, but I still look forward to them. Seeing as we usually only get one, maybe two outings per gen from those series, I'm always down to see what they come through with. And aside from some anomalies, they usually delivery on something that can at least be considered good.
I only hope that Nintendo has taken serious lessons from the U because they need to learn from it, but I don't get this feeling. Instead, it feels like they're attempting to sweep the U under the rug and forget it as quickly as possible, in the meantime throwing out cheap, half-assed software to pass the time until their successor hits so they can continue on their merry way to irrelevancy and an ever increasing niche appeal. An uneasy feeling, like they're going to continue in their dogmatic, stubborn ways no matter what.
Nintendo needs to change if they're to improve, and I think they're just too proud. This company is kept from its potential by very old, arrogant, stubborn Japanese men who are not doing the job. They don't believe in online, in decent hardware, in third party support, they don't care to truly attempt to expand past their own borders and culture, they refuse to compete (although with a new CEO I hope to see a step away from this defeatist mentality), and they still haven't fixed their ancient policies even though they keep saying they will. And time ticks on.
Actions are all that matter. What Nintendo does in the next few years will be the most important time in the entire lifespan of the company. I hope they know what they're doing, and that Kimishima can right the ship that Iwata and his crew were sailing into a reef at full force before his untimely departure.

People need to rag on gamers in general for wanting the same old shit. I like the games plenty, Mario is pretty fucking rad, I rarely find one os his platformers to be poor. Creatively dull like a New Super Mario Bros game maybe, but rarely "that game is bad". Metroid is in the conversation for my favorite franchise, if not out right. Zelda, I mean at least it delivered fun games in 2d. But it's time their best teams, their most accomplished teams, their best funded projects be things that are new.
I'm tired of the same old characters: context absolutely has an impact on video games.
I'm tired of the same formulaic games, with a new ip even if its the same genres, they get to have a blank slate.
I'm tired of them pretending there is a timeline to some of these franchises without realizing how badly written that makes everything.
Splatoon is by no means close, and I mean within the stratosphere of Nintendo's best works, but it's a breath of fresh air in that lineup. I've played more than enough mp games in my life, and Splatoon isn't an excellent one, but it's one of the more fresher ideas I've seen in that space and it was a blast to play. It didn't compromise Nintendo's sense of style and strengths either to make it. And that's from the group that makes the mortgage simulator. Imagine what Miyamoto, Retro, Intelligent Systems (well Codename Steam was not good, but at least they were given a chance to fail on a new project), or Miyamoto's tribute band Aunoma could do if they actually decided to do something new?
I dont understand how people can say WiiU got "many" games. All i see is mario and some other not so interesting games. While Xenoblades X whatever the name is looks good for a WiiU game it does not look that interesting compared to what the other platforms have to offer. You dont have unlimited time and WiiU does not top the list of games/things.
