I'm replaying Witcher 2, but I still don't fully understand what the Wild Hunt is (and do we need Spoiler tags to discuss it?)

R3FURBISHED

The Wild Hunt is originally presented as a group of spectral riders who gallop through the world, heralding an era of war while snatching up people in the mortal realm to join them. You learn what they really are at the end of TW2 (I think):
In the lengthy dialogue with Letho where he "spills the beans" and tells Geralt of his past, Geralt finally recovers his memories and learns the details of the Wild Hunt and the events that transpired before the first Witcher game.

The Wild Hunt is actually an elven cavalry who serve powerful elven sorcerers, hailing from a world dominated by elves. Their spectral form is merely their physical manifestation in the realm in which they are "invading." Their leader is shown below:

640px-Tw2_king_wild_hunt_flashback_1.jpg

They basically control time and space and travel between dimensions.
At the end of TW2 Nilfgaard begins the invasion of the Northern kingdoms, and this war is the focus of TW3, so it makes sense why they have returned as the game's primary antagonists.

I think they were throwing around how it is bigger. So tired of open world devs acting like bigger = better. I would rather have a smaller world that is more detailed rather than a world like Skyrim. If they can make it as big as Skyrim and make it a lot more detailed, bring it on.. It would be a great achievement. I won't hold my breath though.

Why aren't you gaming on PC anymore?

It mostly has to do with me and what I've begun noticing. First off, the PC exclusives don't interest me as of late. I haven't really LOVED a PC exclusive since STALKER series. I also started to notice I would obsess over frames per second and getting more, and more, and more performance. I found myself worrying too much about the performance I was getting. If a game dipped below 60 fps, I didn't enjoy it as much. I had to have the latest and greats GPUs. IDK, I began getting in one obsessive and strange mindset. Now if something isn't working right on a console, then there isn't much I can do. Since starting back console gaming (PS3, Wii, WiiU) I have noticed that I have started enjoying gaming again. It doesn't feel like a chore anymore. Not that PC gaming is, it was just my mindset. I have begun concentrating on the games, and not the performance and hardware. I've also missed so much this generation. I went bat shit crazy collecting all these games I missed. Since TLOU came out (when I got back init consoles) I have bought like 50 games + a WiiU. Like I said, I missed so much.

Because it's a game trailer.. people want to see how can they be bad asses while playing the game not the game be bad ass on it's own. While i understand that you might be able to do similar things in the game i rather see those similar things. It was bad ass though..

Since you seem a bit more prepared on this, mind if I ask
Just who are Yennefer and Ciri? I finally finished The Witcher 2 yesterday and most flashbacks and references to Geralt's past talked about them, but even after the talk with Letho I felt like the game wanted to show some kind of deeper relation between Geralt and Yennefer that I simply couldn't grasp. Did I miss something?

They are characters in the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, which predate the PC games. Geralt is presumed dead after the novels, having died to the Wild Hunt. CDPR retcons this with TW1 by having him reappear in the human world, albeit with amnesia.
Geralt and Yennefer were lovers. They were both taken by the Wild Hunt, but Geralt made a deal with the Wild Hunt's leader offering his life in return for hers. He is thus presumed dead in the novels' chronology but returns in TW1. Yennefer is also presumed dead but Letho reveals at the end of TW2 that she is alive, though in Nilfgaard.
My favorite part in the trailer was that, and it was a good cgi trailer. IMO the Witcher 2 opener was epic and a bit better than it.

You're delusional. The PS4 version will run between 20fps to 30fps and will have more jaggies and worse texture filtering at a minimum. And the PC version will have other advantages---you aren't going to see the Nvidia hardware PhysX stuff on an AMD-driven PS4 for example.

That's just some words of some PR chick which probably stole her job from me as I also applied for the job in CD Projekt some 5 years ago... BTW, the voiceover in the trailer was very weak, unless some stylized Middle-English was something they were going for, but I'm not sure if that was it...

Yeah, even though I don't feel the same way as him, I can understand where he is coming from. It can become a real obsession for some people. I like getting good image quality and good performance in my games, but at the end of the day I just play them and enjoy them. If I can't get perfect image quality or performance in a certain game with my current rig then I just find the best settings and quickly get to playing the game.

The best thing for me personally is to own a gaming PC and at least one console. That is where I find the right balance and enjoyment in gaming.

Like I said, I missed so much. kalipekona

Understandable. I get caught up on performance a lot as well and can't really play a game until I have it running as good as I can get it.

Something I do is just turn off any FPS counters and enjoy my game. Maybe you immediately notice any framerate below 60 even without a counter, but there are a lot of games I play where you can't get 60 FPS in every single setting/scenario so I've learned to just adjust to it.

I hate the typical "Take my money!!" comments on Youtube. Calm down and wait for some actual game play folks.

Meh... mildly disappointing...

Liked the opening for TW2 better, and after hearing so many good things from what they showed behind closed doors this doesn't even give a taste of what's to come.
