We can play this game all day, and you can pretend that suddenly 8 bit IPS panels are "horrid" (again, in an area where HDR content is incredibly limited currently AND colour is probably the most basic-b*tch incremental upgrade you can get, with the least overall effect... beyond insane resolution at close proximity) but lets be more practical about the situation difference here:

Consoles HDR

  • HDR - 95-99% of games don't support it yet, it is not a requirement or a standard.
  • Still capped at 60FPS
  • Still standard FoV
  • Sacrificed graphics and performance for 4k resolutiosn that barely anyone on this board REALLY benefits from, and they will probably argue blindly against any written research on the subject.
  • no graphical enhancements through modifications
  • no Free/Gsync availability

PC Gaming - Non HDR adoption (Which again, is only a temporary advantage.)

  • Ultrawide - Who knows how many games are supported, but many are, more and more get patched all the time, and with a few exceptions most new games adopt it as a standard.
  • supporting up to 120-240 FPS pending - works in all games
  • supporting G-Sync-Freesynch - Works in all games
  • Modifcations - Work in most games
  • higher game settings - available for most higher end games.
  • HDR - Borked on Windows OS - Not many games support it, but again, neither do consoles.

But but "mah brightness and blacks pop alittle more!!! NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!"

After a decent VA panel (not to talk about OLED) IPS panels are pretty damn horrid, other than bad viewing angles VA panels destroy IPS panels in contrast. OLEDs really don't have issues with viewing angles + infinite contrast.

You obviously don't care about that stuff and I don't care about gaming on a small monitor, even if the games ran at a 200 fps.

Ignoring the VA comments because lol.

But anyway, "tiny Monitor" ... do you have any concept of field or vision? I gotta ask this... because I don't think you do.

And, with The Witcher 3, you don't even need mods to increase graphical fidelity by a ton. You can just edit the .ini file for insane foliage improvement.

And then, there's this...

But the sunlight and shadows on that foiliage, is it like 30% brighter/darker? IF not.... no deal sorry! /s

Lol, and besides even that, the draw distance!

@Epak_: The shadows and tree models in the distance. Or does HDR fix that(obvious sarcasm)? :P

That's impressive in the draw distance department.

But sorry, the sky's sunlight isn't dominating the image in glorius 1000 nit fashion, those tree shadows... just not dark enough.... GAME BREAKING

Another one, showcasing water quality and obvious tree model superiority.

Note, there are no mods for tree models. It is simply a better LoD and draw distance setting that is far and above that of even the current strongest console.

@MBirdy88: I've hunched in front of a monitor for a big part of my life, I prefer a couch and a big TV. Nothing master race-y 'bout back pain.

Good choice on the TV, if it's indeed one of the Samsung KS-series, still has great PQ and indeed a VA panel. Contrast should be almost 7000:1 while your IPS monitor probably hovers around 1000:1. Why? Because current IPS tech can't reach contrast ratios better than that. You get no proper blacks, you get greys. No 120fps gaming at 4k, but I'd still take the TV. Can still eff up the picture with wonky settings though.

Edit: edit mania.

Fair enough, I can't argue with that. Shouldn't be hunching though!

Yes, my TV colouring/contrast is slightly better than my monitor, but again, this is by far, out of all the possible visual enhancements the most minor currently. I could of easily waited for HDR to get its s*it together on the monitor market, but it simply wasn't worth the wait compared to what else is available already.

A black looks like a black on my PC, I'm usually quite sensitive to pixels/framerate and the likes, but a black, as far as I can see ... is a black, can it be more black? Maybe? but I'm calling a spade a spade. If its good enough for graphics designers then who am I to argue?

No 120 FPS on 4k correct, I see no need for 4k as already pointed out, with screens so close it adds nothing, absolutely nothing. for TV's under 70' with people at 6 feet away it adds next to nothing either. So I opted for the sensible 1440P Ultrawide instead, which does get 100-120 FPS... win win.

I could of went with the Samsung 49 Inch SUPER-WIDE (2 x 27' monitors no bezel) with 600 nit HDR and QDot Samsung goodness, VA and freesync if colour was the most important factor, but given its only 1080p vertically ... I would then rather the Pixel Density and working space.

No singular device is perfect, but slapping HDR on something and saying instant win is Geovola level logic... to be avoided.

Is that even possible to run Witcher 3 on Switch? If such a thing were to come for the Switch, I don't mind double-dipping since I'll be playing Witcher 3 on the go only and still play the main Witcher 3 beef on PC.

CDPR, please port Witcher 3 for Switch!

Contrast is one of the main factors when we talk about picture quality. That's why OLED screens are so sought over, infinite contrast and perfect black, the pixels shut down and emit no light in places there's supposed to be total darkness, that of course depends how you set the TV up from the settings, but the possibility is right there. 65" LG OLED B7 is at a pretty good price right now, but maybe it'll get a little lower when this years models come out.

Here's something 'bout viewing distances and screen sizes. I sit relatively close to my 65" TV, because why not? I didn't buy a "big" (would love to have a 75", bigger is better IMO) TV to watch it miles away.

The whole point of HDR and the evolution of TV tech is to be able to show a more lifelike picture, that's what the manufacturers are trying to achieve. That's why the colour gamut has to be wider and get wider still, HDR is needed to show more detail (just like with HDR photography, more detail, emulation of the human eye) and evolve still. That's why screen resolutions will keep rising higher and higher.

Personally I want all that, one could argue that a higher framerate would help for TEH REALISM and I agree, but we can't have all. I like console exclusives too much lol :P

Good thing Witcher 3 is not an exclusive, and plays considerably better on PC. While also looking noticeably better.

I want to see more breakdowns of sales splits between platforms in the future from companies. Ubi seems to be one the of the few major publishers that does this. EA stopped doing it after Xbox was losing. Cool of CDPR to do this.

Cause if they did, EA Acces will go bye bye from the Bone.

@Epak_: I see you just ignored the pics I posted and the obvious details that consoles don't have. Instead, you're still going on about how HDR makes picture quality better. You have trouble seeing the forest for the trees, don't ya? ;)

- Get an ergonomic office chair (Herman Miller or Steelcase)

or

My current PC is hooked up to my TV, don't use a monitor. My PC is old and when you game on it, the CPU overheats and the system crashes. A day will come when I build a new PC, but right now I'd rather put two grand on an OLED than a new PC.

CD Projekt doesn't really have an excuse to gimp Cyberpunk 2077 on PC now like they did with the Witcher 3 believing console sales would absolutely dominate. Now that we see PC had the second most sales not too far behind the PS4 in its first year and then surpasses it the second year. Xbox One sales are pretty pathetic when you consider they had partnered with Microsoft to advertise the game for Xbox One.

They should make Cyberpunk 2077 as a appealing as possible on PC since they can easily make the most money there if it doesn't sell the most units initially since a lot of people bought The Witcher 3 through GOG at launch. About half the sales of it on PC were through GOG so about 700k copies at and I'm certain its at least 2 or 3 million copies sold on GOG by now.

It''s the exact same. Xinput means that the prompts are all Xbox button prompts too.

sacrilege!!

PC gamers since at least the 80s have been using input devices other than a mouse and keyboard to play games. How else could we properly play things such as racing sims, flight sims, space sims and mech sims without steering wheels, joysticks and HOTAS.

please do not compare the need of using a HOTAS for a flight sim to that of using a console controller

It is In comparison to a solid 60. Unless you're using the higher-end consoles (Pro/X), you'll be running from mid-20s to 30s with 1080p and lower resolution. The argument that equipment is not standard is no longer exclusive to PCs.

I'm surprised the Xbox version didn't sell better, the series had a good history on the console and now the recent devs support for the x1x as well.
