3rd party companies who make multiplat games have to keep with-in the limits of the xbox 360 disc because they dont want to have multiple discs. because the xbox doesnt use bluray discs , 3rd party companies cant make bigger better games because they are so limited. multiplat games will never evolve until the xbox gets more disc space. as of now, the evolution has stopped.

Mass Effect 2 comes in two discs. FFXIII will come in three, I heard.

Fallout 3, GTAIV, Borderlands, etc are huge games, and are on the 360.

It does not look like a problem. :)

I don't understand your argument. Are you saying that games would be better if they were all developed on Blu-Ray discs? How does the media in which the game is read off of affect the quality of the game :?

Kinda hard to say that when Crysis, the best looking game this gen, comes on ONE DVD disc. Oh I get it. It's more damage control about not getting ME2 and getting a horrible port of Bayonetta

If the evolution of 3rd party games has stopped its cause of the developers lack of originality not cause of the hardware. Funny everyone thinks that Bluray automatically means great games which isn't true. Most PS3 exclusives are just as short as any 360 game and some are shorter like MGS4 if you don't watch the cinematic's...........

As much as I can appreciate having Blu-Ray in the PS3, TC is still totally wrong about this. He's either a fanboy or just ignorant, either one, take your pick, the end result will still be the same: there will be no reasoning with him. That said, to everyone citing Crysis: because PC games get installed, the data can be more compressed on the disc, allowing more data; if Crysis had to stream off the disc, it probably wouldn't fit on one DVD.

Cmon now. Your posts are all borderline ridiculous. Everytime I see that stupid spiderman cartoon I know just to scroll down a post because you are just going to bash something relating to the PS3. Just turn the fanboyism down a notch and you'll be fine.

Most games better than Uncharted 2 and most PS3 exclusives? You can't even pass that off as an honest opinion.

Technically speaking, why not? I'll agree I liked RE5 over UC2, but Uncharted never impressed me much to begin with. Though the rest of PS3's exclusives beat the exclusives of all the other consoles, easily. Its all opinions.

And @ TC, I highly doubt that developers downgrade the quality of a game just so it will fit on one disk. 3rd party developers just aren't interested in making massive games like exclusives because exclusives need to sell systems, therefore they need to be amazing. 3rd party games just need to sell lots of copies, so it is acceptable for them to be short and sweet.

Probably a PS3 fan trying to find some way to counter Mass Effect 2; now that it's out and people know it got rave reviews, you'll see a lot of damage control threads popping up.

Because no person could honestlysay that MOST GAMES are better than most PS3 exclusives. PS3 exclusives cover a wide variety ofgenres in games like Demon's Souls, Uncharted, Killzone 2, and MLB The Show. Saying that all are bad is just impossible to do, unless you don't like gaming period or you just have a grudge with the system. Sure, maybe some games like Halo or Assassin's Creed you may prefer over any of the PS3 exclusives, but saying that most games (Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, The 40th Day, Rogue Warrior, MLB 2kX to name a few)are better is just a folly.

I understand what you mean but it really ultimately is preference. A lot of games are multiplat, its entirely plausible for someone to like them over PS3's exclusives. I don't, but this point of view can be valid.

actually, both the high costs of PS3/360 limit devs since it is so expensive to make games for them, that they need to make a game based around a safe concept that will sell, heck even the Wii is the same, just not as expensive

you make games for platforms based on if people normally buy those types of games on that platform

Shooters, Action Adventure, Free Roam games sell well on 360/PS3, and shows coz some of the best games/best selling are Uncharted 2, Gears, Halo, Call of Duty, Killzone, Resistance

Just like you can't make a game for Wii if it doesn't fit into the genres that sell, sports/minigames, platformers, racing.

Sure you can make a Syberia-like game for 360/PS3 and it may sell well, but it isn't established that it will sell to what you may need it to sell in order to turn profit just as it you may make a Gears of War quality Shooter on the Wii, but with clear instances where games that stray from the established well selling genres don't sell much at all, its hard to convince the people financing your project to keep funding your development, unless like the people of World of Goo, you have the money enough to do it on your own

This reminds me of this article i read on how games won't be seen as art soon, where it states gamers won't accept a game that isn't fun, and is more of an experience

Gamers don't want a game that shows them a narrative/experience like the movie Crash, coz it may not be fun, or even Slumdog Millionaire. It has to be fun, we demand to not sacrifice the arcadey fun of Call of Duty (for ***** sake your screen turns red to heal wounds!) even as we demand higher cinematic experiences from our games, when really few games approach even the lowest cinematic, or generally engrossing experiences from literature, movies, and the theatre.

So devs can't afford to pursue games as art nowadays yet, since their consumers, the gamer, won't buy games looking for art, but willl only buy fun games

Games can overcome space constraints by using multiple discs. This technique has been in practice on consoles since the Playstation era. No issues here.

Um... Budget is the limiting factor, not anything else. If they want a bigger game, and have the resources and ability to do so they would do a PS3 exclusive, or multiple discs on 360 to help make up for the budget.

lol. ps3 has hurt 3rd party more. blu ray discs cost alot more, and the code for them take up alot space with no extra features on the disc. look at motorstorm 1. it used up over 20-30 gigs and that game had almost no game modes on it.look at multi plat games for both 360 and ps3. ps3 needs to install for the game to work. 360 little dvd disc just put it in and play. with 90% of the time 360 verision the better game...only thing blu ray is used for on the ps3 is to hold a bunch of audio files and anti pirate codes. only game ps3 exclusive 360 couldn`t port would prolly be mgs4 and thats because it was full of cutscreens about as much as a movie. ms made the 360 to be great at software. so if anything came up they could just run a update. not anoying little updates like everytime you turn on your ps3 and try to sing into psn either. but usefull updates that gamers want. big updates once or twice a year.which take up a fraction of the time to download. ps3 main reason was to win the hd movie format war. and the games prove it. its best games have been movie type games. mgs4, uncharted, ect ect.

Not even first part Sony studios and third-party exclusives take full control of Blu-Ray's capacity when all they're fascinated with is uncompressed audio and video. Think of the epic RPGs and other genres that could be expansive. But no, uncompressed audio and video. Meh.

crysis = 6gb so point being? that pathetic 512mb ram in consoles is the main reason developments have stopped. you can only pack so much into the ram. pretty sad there are now video cards with 4 times the vram consoles have total ram. consoles always release with insufecent ram and then it costs them. 512mb in 2005 when pc games were using 1gb + 256mb vram. why did you not put in 1gb ms/sony?

yeah if there was something called more ram. no ram, disk space is useless. ps3 will never have a game looking as good as crysis since it lack ram. 6gb and still owns everything out there.

so what difference does it make? no ram = no space for game data = disk space does nothing. maybe if they released a ssd that you had to buy and used that to stream data more space would be useful but without a fast streaming device disk space does nothing when there is no ram. 512mb = 2003 in pc world. pretty sad 3 years later consoles couldn't do better. a single core with 2gb ram would have had so much more potential.

LOL ur funny you can have up to 2 discs before MS starts charging extra. thats 13.6 gigs. yeah....i've read some argue ments and confirmed you have nearly no idea what you are talking about. look at it this way if it starts to get a problem then people would just get the multiple discs and install them. like forza 3.

wrong, the 360 actually evolved by allowing full games to be installed and run from the HDD, and PC still uses DVD, and it has the best looking game on the market, HDD installations and DD are the future, NOT blu-ray, by your logic the PS2 with it's sub-par hardware held the evolution of gaming back last gen, which just isn't the case

when did multiple discs or storage space hinder the type of game you could make, gameplay and the like? when did it all of a sudden some how mean that if you had smaller space you couldn't make a complete game...some how more space instantly equals larger games, with larger worlds, and such? why has it not remained that storage space only limits things like high resolution textures, and sound and cgi?

If space is a problem, then every games before the ps3's bluray has been limited and sucked....

yeah if there was something called more ram. no ram, disk space is useless. ps3 will never have a game looking as good as crysis since it lack ram. 6gb and still owns everything out there. imprezawrx500

I didn't realize that a broken record could use a computer. :?
