What a silly silly thread. Wii IMO is the most innovative.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Using reasoned, logic, and intelligence I will reply to all of TC what TC said in a smart way, and list all his arguments and how he is wrong.
1. Exclusivity: You claim that games like Tekken, Devil May Cry, and Final Fantasy are going to Xbox, what you fail to realize is that they ALSO come out on PS3 the same day and with the same features. The main reason games are going multiplat is cost, it explains the $60 cost and it explains the higher amount of multiplats. Not to mention all the 360 "exclusives" that have come to PS3, oftentimes with more content. Dead Rising and Condemned had sequels come to 360 (well, Dead Rising 2 isn't out yet). Oh, those games came out in 2005 you say? Well how about Bioshock which came out with extra features, improved graphics, trophies, and exclusive DLC? Or the Ninja Gaiden games which often come out with tons of extras (especially 2), and don't forget that many 360 "exclusives" come out on PC as well.
2. Sales: Do sales really matter? No, not when Dane Cook can be considered popular and Transformers 2 makes some of the most money a movie has ever made. What about Fight Club? That was a good movie, but it didn't even pass the budget (although I do wonder why David Fincher would require hundreds of millions of dollars for a movie about 2 guys fighting in a basement). Halo 3 may have sold millions quickly, but you Wii Play and Wii Sports have sold mmuch more than Halo 3 did. You also claim that Killzone 2 "failed" in sales, yet even if it didn't match the monster of Halo 2, it has made over 3 million sales by this time I believe, making it considered a very successful game. Of course, my mention of Wii play reminds me of another little line.
3. Competition: You claimed that Killzone 2 and Halo 3 competed directly against eachother, yet Wii play didn't have anything to do here. What does that mean?! All games directly compete to make money regardless of demographic, and even though KZ2 and Halo 3 are FPS games, they couldn't be more different, not to mention the fact that Killzone released over a year and a half after Halo 3 and that the term "Halo killer" hasn't even been in wide use since the last gen. You also said that Resistance 2 and Gears 2 went directly up against eachother and Gears won. Uh, news flash: those games aren't even in the same genre or hype level. Every game tries to make more money than other games, just because Wii play applies to a different demographic doesn't mean it didn't go up against Halo, plus I doubt lovers of arcadey shooters would love Killzone and tactical shooters would likely abhor the run and gun play of Halo over KZ2.
4. Similarities: You said that you hate Killzone 2 because it was like Call of Duty, why don't you explain? You also say that Half-Life and Halo are nothing alike, yethere are their similarities, both are: run and gun shooters, feature aliens on earth prominently, have a silent guy in a power suit, have a variety of weapons that don't exist, are sci-fi, feature tiny aliens that turn other people into zombies, need I go on? Killzone and Call of Duty feature the following similarities: aiming down te sight, war, average guy protagonist, ranking up online play. If its an FPS you can bet its similar, plus the low score you give Killzone over its CoD similarities makes me wonder, do you hate Call of Duty too? You probably do since its on PS3 also. Killzone 2 has some of the best graphics ever on a console, very difficult AI, and has been praised yet you seem to hate it for no other reason then being on PS3 and beig somewhat like Call of Duty.
5. Scores: Please explain why Halo 3 gets a 10 but LittleBigPlanet gets a 5, or how exactly isMGS4glitchy or feature bad gamesplay. Is it the 70+ weapons, are there too many? Maybe its the multiple paths through a battlefield, you must hate that. Not like it matters, metacritic lists the best games on each console and it goes down like this:
Wii's best game: Super Mario Galaxy (97)
PS3's best game: LittleBigPlanet (95)
360's best game: Halo 3 (94)
The scores don't lie, Halo 3 is a great game, and the best 360 exclusive, but its not the best game ever. But I guess everyone is entitled to an onpinion.
Me, I like playing 360, but $40 is not worth it for the ability to play online with friends. You might change the subject and ignore this (in fact I expect you to), but this is pretty big evidence against you, why don't you go ahead and explain all of this? Also its pretty funny that you have to take pictures just to try and seem more right than us, and that picture of you putting inFAMOUS in a clean, paper filled garbage bag was pretty hilarious (especially the part where you took it out). Even if you did throw it away, hey its your money.

- Trophies. Apparently it was the same because Sony waited like 2 years to implement them (copying MS)
Wireless controller standard? 360 had it first.
PS3 has no RTS.
Best controller ever? Lol Sony tried to rip off the 360's controller AND wii controller and failed.
PSEye? It's so bad Sony has to add a WAND to it.
PSN DLC? Like what? Joker? That's it.
360 wins (as usual).
AHUGECAT
IM PRETTY SURE, gamecube had a wireless controller beforexbox 1.
SONY PLAY STATION and ps2 controllers came beforre the xbox controllers. Sadly you lose on that.
Why do you speak for everyone when you say that the pseye is so bad that it needs wand?
Why cant i say that xbox 360 is so bad that it needs to copy sony and its playstation eye tech/idea. Sorry you lose on that again.
XBOX DLC? what a few for gta4. cool. I remember even for spider man 3, ps3 had it so we can play as goblin. :P you lose on the dlc arguement. Sorry.
And can you explain why you try to speak for everyone else again?
i remember you told soem where THEY were speaking for everyone else. ("stop speaking for everyone)> Explain that. Sorry you lose on that, because you cant answer that properly.
Now if you say that you aren't speaking for everyone. Then you are admitting that its your opinion you are giving. Sorry you lose once again.
Please no diverting from my topic. If you have anything decent to say, reply back to every point that i made in my post. But then again, you will divert what ive said and act like i never posted. Thus you lose.
GameCube's wireless controller is not standard.
PS3 controller is a direct rip off of the 360's and Wii's.
PSEye is a joke, not even Sony takes it seriously.
GTAIV DLC > Spider-Man 3 DLC
ps3 controller is almost the exact remake off the ps1 and ps2 controller. Which all came before the 360s and xbox 1's. SOrry you lose.
xbox 360's natal is a joke. Even though it isnt even out yet :P.

However, this guy is a complete lemming and one that has reached stubborn at its peak. No matter how right you and someones arguements will seem, he will try (but fail) to prove you wrong.
This is sad, a guy has no brain. I feel kind of bad for people that have no thinking ability, or the capacity to learn.

As the Green Goblin once said in Spiderman, "these, teeming masses exist only to lift the few, exceptional people onto their shoulders. You and I, we're exceptional". In other words, without these guys there is no one to laugh at or make us feel better. Without Uwe Boll's crap flicks, actual good movies wouldn't seem better then they are. Without bad games, good game makers wouldn't have the motivation to rise above the bad games and make great ones.

As if RTS on the 360 are anything to brag about. At least N64 got an iteration of Stacraft. >_>You know what I laugh of TC? He says that Halo Wars and Halo 3 killed the pc RTS and FPS genres respectively. Honestly, I prefer using my trusted mouse and keyboard rather than a controller and to this day, no console rts has ever won a pc RTS. Its difficult to control everything with one controller, better use the keyboard and mouse.Miroku32
You not the first one telling him that.... and this thread still goes on...so i suggest not replying anymore, becouse replaying is useless here
It's a very innovative console. But the other consoles have innovative things too.
PS3 - Blu-ray, free wi-fi, bluetooth, etc.
Wii - First console to sucessfully integrate good motion controls with fun gameplay, the cheapest console.
Now if we could have a console that has all the things the original poster said, Blu-ray, free wi-fi, Bluetooth, Good motion controls, AND be cheap, THAT would be the most innovative console of time.

Or the Ninja Gaiden games which often come out with tons of extras (especially 2), and don't forget that many 360 "exclusives" come out on PC as well.SPYDER0416
Difference: The Xbox 360 gets those day one. The PS3 gets them (if they are lucky) a year later and they never buy it anyways. Bioshock completely flopped (in terms of sales) on the PS3. Be lucky you are getting 2.
The 360 steals major exclusives - names such as Grand Theft Auto (III, VC and SA sold a combined 40 million + last generation), Final Fantasy (a combined 15 million + last generation), Devil May Cry, Tekken, and the such. All day one. And you mentioned some DLC, well 360 got GTA DLC.
Of course, my mention of Wii play reminds me of another little line.SPYDER0416
Your first argument doesn't make sense because Fight Club isn't marketed to be a $200 million+ film - it was a niche film. Transformers 2 is a crowd pleaser (that is PG-13). Wii Play and Wii Sports sold more because one comes with a controller and the other comes with the console. It would be more logical to compare Halo 3 sales to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, or Super Mario Galaxy (they appeal to the same demographic pretty much).
Killzone 2 hasn't even cracked 2 million yet. It is a failure in every sense in the word. In fact, most PS3 games do not sell well.
Sales are not an indiciator of quality, no, but for a flagship shooter to sell so poor says something. Killzone and Resistance were supposed to be the answer for Microsoft's Halo and Gears of War. THey failed. Miserably.
3. Competition: You claimed that Killzone 2 and Halo 3 competed directly against eachother, yet Wii play didn't have anything to do here. What does that mean?! All games directly compete to make money regardless of demographic, and even though KZ2 and Halo 3 are FPS games, they couldn't be more different, not to mention the fact that Killzone released over a year and a half after Halo 3 and that the term "Halo killer" hasn't even been in wide use since the last gen.SPYDER0416
Wii Play appeals to a different audience - no way is Halo 3 or Killzone 2 going to get soccer moms or grandpas to play. Halo 3 and Killzoen 2 are flagship shooters for their respective consoles with MASSIVE, massive, MASSIVE, hype.
You also said that Resistance 2 and Gears 2 went directly up against eachother and Gears won. Uh, news flash: those games aren't even in the same genre or hype level. Every game tries to make more money than other games, just because Wii play applies to a different demographic doesn't mean it didn't go up against Halo, plus I doubt lovers of arcadey shooters would love Killzone and tactical shooters would likely abhor the run and gun play of Halo over KZ2.SPYDER0416
Resistance 2 and Gears 2 competed because they were released in the same week, and are in the same genre (shooters, FPS/TPS is a sub-genre).
4. Similarities: You said that you hate Killzone 2 because it was like Call of Duty, why don't you explain? SPYDER0416
It plays like a future Call of Duty, from the aiming to the sprinting to the jumping, nothing feels unique about it. It's like another generic shooter. Even the multiplayer is a lot like Call of Duty (with a few additions to make it seem unique).
SPYDER0416
Halo 3 and Half-Life are nothing alike. Halo 3 is more arcadey, has totally, totally different types of weapons, then has vehicles such as the Scorpion, Warthog, Banshee, etc. etc. And it's a totally different style.
Killzone and Call of Duty feature the following similarities: aiming down te sight, war, average guy protagonist, ranking up online play. If its an FPS you can
Not like it matters, metacritic lists the best games on each console and it goes down like this:SPYDER0416
LittleBigPlanet has bad physics, and the levels just aren't fun to play. Look up TSRP2 on YouTube and see how great 2D level editing can be with great gameplay. LBP had bad gameplay and the level options aren't that great (especially in terms of enemies and obstacles). Mario is the definitive 2D platformer, and LBP should've took more elements from the 2D Mario games (in terms of gameplay).
Wii's best game: Super Mario Galaxy (97)
PS3's best game: LittleBigPlanet (95)
360's best game: Halo 3 (94)
The scores don't lie, Halo 3 is a great game, and the best 360 exclusive, but its not the best game ever. But I guess everyone is entitled to an onpinion.SPYDER0416
Different standards. People were blinded by LBP hype as well. LBP to me is already dead. No one seems to care for it anymore. There are still millions of Halo 3 players though and ODST is going to be amazing.
Me, I like playing 360, but $40 is not worth it for the ability to play online with friends. You might change the subject and ignore this (in fact I expect you to), but this is pretty big evidence against you, why don't you go ahead and explain all of this? $40 is worth a lot because more people play online (no one seems to own a PS3, at least in America). And it's just a superior service that's faster and more features.

XBox ripped the triggers from the Dreamcast. The Xbox is the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast.
Plus, Sony didn't put triggers on because of the Dreamcast. They put triggers because Microsoft did. See, Sony is the "leader" - but only in terms of sales (LAST GENERATION), they were always the follower though. PS2 has to be the most backward console ever.
- Only 2 controller ports (WTH)
- No ethernet cable builed in (til slim)
- Disc Read Error
- No Hard Drive (the one it has is useless pretty much)
- Weak hardware
You didn't think this one through...lets have a look: Achievements - Basically unlockables with a new name and look. Wireless controller standard - This is innovative how? LOL Guide button - basically a start button with features, seen on the PSP b4 the 360 debuted. Detachable HDD - how is this innovative...consoles have had detachable units for years. warranty - NO, just NO...used only to mask the real issue and keep lawsuits out. Problem still lingers. Best controller - Its a dreamcast/cube controller thrown in one...nothing innovative..SORRY and besides...OPINION. Natal - isn't even OUT! haha Netflix - who cares. Xbox live - might give you this one. And yeah Sony is catching up, considering the 360 basically became the PS3 with its addons of HDMI, bigger HDD, HD-DVD, 1080p resolution. HAHA i'm done. :)Sniper-PIG
How has the Xbox basically become the PS3 "HAHA". 1080p was invented by Sony is what you are basically saying. There is so much wrong with your whole post. I would agree that the 360 has done a lot in bringing gaming forward since it's release. Like them or not, Achievements are a very intelligent way of extending the life of a game by giving further objectives after a game is complete. 1080p is kind of useless at the moment as many games are not native, this goes for both consoles. HDD was included as standard in the original Xbox so using your logic, Sony copied Microsoft by including one in the PS3. You also claimed, when looking at Netflix, that no one cares. I would beg to differ as it is one of the most used programs on the 360.
I think just is a standard generational leap with new additions halping gaming move forward. I would argue that as the 360 was released first and introduced a lot of these options it is the most innovative console this generation.

SPYDER0416
weve been trying to reason but, it just doesnt work Lol. yes and you are right, he wont reply to all of the things you have listed. He changes the topic and diverts it to other opiniated garbage.
Well nice try i guess. I agree with you on 100% of the things you said there as they are not opinion based.
So you need to appreciate the awful games on the PS3 to further appreciate the 360? Good point....

DualShock 3 ripped off the triggers from the Xbox 360 and the guide button from the Xbox 360. SIXAXIS ripped off the Wiimote.
Sony is so innovative they are using a 1997 controller
Ha yea and MS decided to make a controller after Sony, therefore the lose by your logic of doing things first. By that logic the Mouse and Keyboard win in the end so just give up

Or the Ninja Gaiden games which often come out with tons of extras (especially 2), and don't forget that many 360 "exclusives" come out on PC as well.AHUGECAT
If its an FPS you can
Also its pretty funny that you have to take pictures just to try and seem more right than us, and that picture of you putting inFAMOUS in a clean, paper filled garbage bag was pretty hilarious (especially the part where you took it out). Even if you did throw it away, hey its your money.
SPYDER0416
$40 is worth a lot because more people play online (no one seems to own a PS3, at least in America). And it's just a superior service that's faster and more features.
Aside from the fact that 3 million (its 3 million)is far from a flop, you still seem to try and put sales into the argument. Its also pretty sad when you try and convince others that LBP had tons of hype when halo 3 is the biggest hype machine ever (its not like it got a 94 just for being good). You also completely ignored some of my points, such as how MGS4 is glitchy, or how Half-Life and Halo aren't alike, in fact you just gave me more reasons (both are arcadey shooters with vehicles) and of course you ignored the day one games I mentioned on the exclusivity part.
Also, why don't you explain how Star Trek (an actually good crowd pleaser action movie that actually pleased its crowd) didn't do as well as Transformers 2 (which you seem to love by the way)? Sorry TC, aside from having done nothing but talk about sales like they somehow relate to the quality of a game all you did was prove my points. So thank you, for letting everyone ahead of me know that Bioshock being better on PS3 means nothing if it doesn't sell as well as it did on 360, because THAT makes sense.
Plus, I don't remember Halo 3 getting a whole lot of GotY awards, yet LBP has its own GotY edition already out after the 20+ awards its won, and your argument on Killzone 2 just makes it seem as if you hate Call of Duty (although as a non 360 exclusive game, and a game thats better than Halo 3, you probably do). Besides, at least MY PS3 lets me type this message directly from it, I don't remember my 360 letting me visit GameSpot.

A few console innovations because of the Xbox 360:
- Achievements. Gaming without achievements is no longer the same.
- Wireless controller standard
- Guide button
- Detachable hard drive
- Free three year warranty
- RTS, WRPGs and FPS that actually work on a console (incredible)
- Best controller ever
- Project Natal.... best non-controller ever
- Xbox Live Arcade
- Netflix
- Xbox Live Primetime (ie 1vs100)
- NXE
- XNA
and so much moreAHUGECAT
XNA & Trophies/achievements are the only real innovation the 360 has given.
1. "Gaming without achievements is no longer the same", thats your opinion and could also be wrong as well. It acts as a time sink only if you care about such things. Many gamers dont give a flying crap about a that stuff when playing a game.
2. Wireless controller standard? Thats not innovation, the controllers still require batteries as well. Rechargable wireless controllers as standard on other consoles are innovative. The 360 controller is the least innovative controller to hit the console gaming market this gen.
3. Guide button? dont make me laugh.
4. Free 3 year warranty? LOL this was offered because their systems were proven to overheat and cause mobo warping/RROD. Microsoft spend over 1 billion dollars fixing their broken systems, if they didnt do this they would not only have lawsuits on their hands but literally damage their business altogether. Thats not innovation.
5. The 360 controller is a rehash of other console controllers. Thats not innovation. Which awards has it won? Sony is the only company i can think of to get a design award for the internationally popular dual shock controller, even that builds off of what was done before through nintendo and PC controllers.
6. Natal? Do you even know it works? Its not even released. If it works as they marketed it as, then it can be considered an innovation, however its not out yet, nor do we know if it actually works as intended. If it did work as intended, it would have been released by now. Atm its still a "prototype". The playstation also has a camera recognizing feature. It has already been used with games and will be released before Natal sees the light of day. They are very similar in their technology, its not an innovation yet and it merely builds off of whats been done before. How they use it will be innovative, and that has yet to be seen, it will also be made for the PC. Therefore, Natal is not 360 specific.
7. Detachable Hard Drive? haha cmon, thats hardly a hard drive and other systems have them. Did you know that the PS2 had a detachable hard drive bay also? The only innovation in the hard drive department is with the PS3 allowing PC hard drives to be used. This means its not brand specific, where as microsoft is selling specifically created hardware that only they profit from. A PS3 owner can take out their unused PC hard drive and use it in the PS3, or buy a new one. 500 gigabytes for $100, where as if you wanted that much space for the 360... you would have to pay much much much more for a microsoft only accessory. Thats not innovation. The fact that the PS3 was able to run Linux even reinforces the difference between innovation and lack there of.
8. The rest is NOT innovation. lol you need to look up what the word means. It looks like you are trying too hard to come up with reasons. The 360 never set out to be an innovative console, it was just supposed to be a powerful system to play games. It wasnt trying to do anything new, which is why it was released a year before the other consoles (which it shouldnt have, as you see they didnt test the system properly and therefore had to repair numerous broken systems).
As an indy developer, i love the 360 for XNA and the community games, but really dont start making excuses why its innovative. It never was intended to be that type of product, and very little of it is. The few innovative features are good, but pale in comparison to the PS3, which was built on the idea of innovation.
why is it everytime a hugecat makes a thread he gets everyone all upset we all know he does these threads on purpose i mean i remember last year (i think he was sheep then) i got banned twice for posting in his threads but anyways im outta here might get banned again:shock: laters
I'm just gonna say one more thing before he comes back and tries to say something about sales,

Wow, this will be easy.
Achievements don't add ANYTHING to gameplay....just a meaningless score.
Wireless controller standard? Your joking right?
Guide button? A nice convenience is all it is.
Detachable hard drive. Consoles getting hard droves is simply consoles copying PC's. Also, being detachable not even worth mentioning.
Three year warranty is only because of how crappy the original production quality of the 360 was.
No, RTS's do not work on consolesand FPS's don't 'work' any better than they did on the PS2.
Xbox Live Arcade.....there are thousands of websites that are essentially the same thing, except most of them are free.
Nice try though.
Wow, this will be easy.
Achievements add countless hours of gameplay to each game Yes, Microsoft was the first to include wireless controllers with their consoles Atleast you admit the guide button was innovative, and that it is quite useful Detachable hard drives means that I'll always have my savegames and downloaded data no matter what, even if I do get one of the 2% of Jaspers that fail Atleast the 360 got a 3 year warranty from Microsoft. What did Sony do when PS2's and PS2 slims were failing everywhere? Nothing RTS's work quite well on the 360, and FPS's shooters for consoles were revolutionized and perfected by Microsoft
Nice try though.
That was your response?
Achievements don't change the gameplay at all, period. They're not extra missions or anything of the sort. They are basically the equivalent of someone saying "I bet you can't do this" and if that motivates you, fine, but you're still playing the same game.
Wireless controllers have been around a long time, including them with a console isn't innovative. First to do it or not, calling it innovative is REALLY stretching it. Being first doens't = innovative.
I'm fully aware of what detachable hard drives can do, the fact that it is detachable doesn't make it innovative when portable hard drives have been around forever.
As far as the warranty goes, this thread wasn't about Sony and what they did with the PS2's issues, it's about the 360 being innovative. The 360's 3 year warranty was a result of poor manufacturing....NOT innovation.
RTS's do not work on the 360, period. This can't be argued. Just because they exist doesn't mean they work well when compared to PC.
FPS's were not revolutionized by microsoft. Halo 3 is Halo 2.1 with upgraded graphics....absolutely NOTHING revolutionary. Microsoft has done nothing to "revolutionize" shooters on the console. There's been very little innovation amongst shooters on consoles, period.
I'm just gonna say one more thing before he comes back and tries to say something about sales,
