That isn't a genre either.

Why not, 'cause it's new? Sony has released two games in this genre, one platformer and one kart racer. The platformer has so many levels that take it beyond simple platforming it's several genres in itself. I say it's simply a new genre, and one I fully support.

Do you see what's wrong with this? If anything, what you're saying is that it should be a sub-genre, but there's LOTs of those.

Sharing user-created content is not a gameplay mechanic (you already mentioned each of those games genres, one is a platformer and one is a racer), and it's not new, either. User-created content is neither new nor a genre.
Heavy Rain is a graphic adventure game and last I checked, Telltale Games has released some of their library on 360 and Wii so that means that Heavy Rain is not part of a PS3 exclusive genre. And that's not even counting the hundreds of graphic adventures that have been released on the PC over the decades. Heavy Rain has very high production values, but that does not change what genre it is in.
I knew it was gonna be about Heavy Rain  Sites always make up their own genres, but essentially it's still an adventure game. BTW, TC you really love wikipedia as a source, don't you?Karnage108very informative and comprehensive. what not to like about it ? Not to mention Interactive drama is more fitting than adventure for HR ............. you can go and check games under the adventure ganre, you will be amazed, you will find Africa, shooters ..... and surprisngly HR as well.

Blast Works: Build, Trade, Destroy - Gamespot Score 8.0.
You were saying?
EDIT: And no, its not a genre. Next up sheep, "Nintendo owns the Jump, Goomba, Star genre!!!!!"

Nope, your thinking of Action adventure.
it was a great game yes, but severely lacks replayability imo, once I got my ending, I truly could never see myself playing again for a different ending, it would ruin the experience for me. was worth a rental at best, as I beat it in maybe 2 days.

i meant on GS, GS has put the games I mentioned under the adventure genre although they dun share anything in common !!!!!! The point is the genre system that GS uses is flawed coz some posters are claiming that the game is an adventure game based on GS classification.[QUOTE="Timstuff"]can you mention the closest game to HR?? I can't think of one particular game that I would say is closest, other than Quantic Dreams' other game, Indigo Prophect, however there are a great many games that are generally similar (though most have a larger emphasis on logic puzzles and do not have QTE's). Tales of Monkey Island is available on all 4 platforms and it follows the same basic formula of solving problems by interacting with your environment to solve problems and persuading characters through conversations or giving them things. The only real difference is that Heavy Rain simplifies this formula and uses QTE's as most of the primary challenge instead. omho88
yea, there are adventure games on the 360.
Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper, and the CSI games.
I played all 3 of them for achievement points :)
granted none of them are nearly as good as heavy rain... and the CSI games are just outright awful... but the genre does exist on the 360.
anyhow, it looks good, but as a mystery of who-did-it the story loses its appeal by the second playthroughlamprey263IMO the killer's identity should have changed depending on how you played. That would have been way crazier and kept the player guessing even on the second play through.

[QUOTE="Funconsole"]Indigo Prophecy did the same thing and it's on the PC :? And more like thisRavensmashIndigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit are the same game aren't they? Just changed for some reason in the EU :| aha
Fahrenheit is the original name,it was changed for the US because of Michael Moore´s movie/documentary,called Fahrenheit.
As far as I know,it´s only Indigo Prophecy in the US(maybe Canada as well?),but it´s Fahrenheit everywhere else.
its really just the evolution of the point and click adventure game now that i think about it...wolverine4262Not really. Evolution means improvement, which HR is not. Heavy Rain is just interesting take on the genre, it has crap adventure gameplay, but has very interesting ideas on storytelling techniques and ability of gamer to influence the plot.
[QUOTE="wooooode"]I would not say one of its kind because their last game Indigo Prophecy or Fahrenheit had a very simular style.omho88I was talking this generation tho. So we are being selective about what counts now? Everything that happened in the generations before now don't matter? I always forget about these stupid rules in System Wars.....
[QUOTE="delta3074"][QUOTE="omho88"] the point is every genre starts with one game, your arguemnt is so dull. As i said before, genre is a gameplay variety NOT the number of games under it.omho88and the genre already existed before the PS3, so therefore the genre heavy rain belongs to is NOT exclusive to the Ps3.if it was a completely new genre i would understand, but it isn't  Did you read the OP ??? At least the red words attracted ur attention !!!! if not, you are just a jalous fanboy who wants to disqualify HR's achievments :? . What achievements? Heavy Rain didn't bring anything new to the Adventure genre like you believe.
Also TC....why edit the post and highlight "this generation", it just makes your argument sound weaker.Ravensmash
