I probably could have forgiven the lack of new experiences if these consoles werent so hilariously underpowered. Like, I looooooooove halo 5 and that game runs smooth as silk online but holy shit do those textures look awful. Especially the water made of playdough in that one warzone level

The PC hasn't had a single great exclusive in awhile either, I don't think I said otherwise, moving that goal post doesn't make the consoles less garbage. The PC at least runs these multiplats, significantly better, and has a wider selection of games, especially games that test to see if the player has anything above the brain stem. Moving the goalpost to PC sucks also, doesn't invalidate that in 2 years these machines have been major underachievers.

You're right, they have, but that doesn't mean Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo don't get knocked for their share of the short coming. Their share is that they responded to this safe environment, by being equally safe for 2 years and/or pumping games aren't worthy of anyones spit, much less their money.

No argument here man. Shit, I moved to a new place about 3 months ago and my consoles are still sitting in the boxes I brought them in. This would make sense if I were your typical mustard race dick head, just out to hate. But no, I've been primarily gaming on consoles my whole life. From gen 2 all the up through gen 7, consoles made up about 90% of my game time. Now? I have to look for excuses to game on these boxes. And that's a tough sell, when almost all the games these boxes offer are in better form on my PC. And then there's a shit ton of games on PC that I won't find on these other boxes. ****, gaming on my PC is even more convenient now. I never thought I'd be saying that with a straight face. All the advantages that consoles provided me are gone now. Now it's just a matter of floating from one good exclusive to the next. Which basically means looking forward to 1 or 2 reasons to play each console per year.

This gen may be suck on the Triple A front (for some people, not me personally) but on the indie front, I'm in heaven.

In fact, I feel this gen is a golden age where you have plenty of choice from triple A and indie. What else could I ask for?

I hear ya. I much prefer what I see coming from X1 also and enjoyed all the same games as you. But it is a shame you couldn't get into Bloodborne because it is stellar.

Yup. This gen sucks. Sad, but true.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are some good games. Compared to other gens, though, this one still really really sucks. By owning a gaming PC I get access to lots of good games, both new and old (although there aren't many good new games for PC either right now) and I own a Wii-U and 3DS as well to get those Nintendo goodies you can't find elsewhere. This has been a good enough combo to keep me occupied with games. But it feels like game makers have lost it a bit this gen. There haven't been a single instant classic this gen, imo. Mario Maker might come the closest to this. The rest has been good, but just more of the same. All in all, a pretty boring gen, this.

Only read the tldr version but I agree. The foundations and potentials of the consoles (excluding Wii U) are there. But th lack of appealing games out so far is shocking. PC is better in that aspect, but not by much.

I think there is depth there, more than the older KI games. But I want to point out that while it doesn't live up to the lofty standards of Street Fighter and King of Fighters, the vast majority of fighters rarely do either.

Mortal Kombat and other NetherRealm games certainly don't ever come close, yet they tend to get a pass. I certainly think that Killer Instinct has more going for it than any of the Mortal Kombat games, and I bet if it was a multiplat game more people would agree.

I hope that when it comes to the PC, peoples perceptions may start to change a bit.

Nothing that interests me, other than Bayonetta 2. Same old games and nothing new. Nintendo haven't made anything like Witcher 3 or upcoming Black Desert. They are still using same old formula. I grew up with Nintendo games but gave up like ten or so years ago.

Didn't read, but i think current generarion has been awesome! Balanced and powerful enough hardware, games coming and being announced every day, lots of new ideas due to the new indie trend, online services got better, casual gaming (kinect and move) didn't become the norm, etc.

you are absolutely right. Consoles are not for first party games machines anymore. It's for both third/first party games and for me it's avoiding the annoyance of building a gaming PC, I just don't have the time and money to spend it on something like that. It's just more convenient for me to turn on the ps4 and just play games. I don't want to make the effort of looking for a better PC, change is good but right now I'm just too lazy to do it and I'm comfortable where I'm currently sitting.

I know PC is better trust me but I just can't be bothered to build one in my current state financially.

As for the quality of games. It's been a slow Gen so far with some good stuff here and there and I've had some great time with The Evil Within and MGSV and Bloodborne etc so yeah they are rare but you could still get decent to amazing games. 2016 is looking great too. I think we should just have a more positive outlook on things and just lower our expectations a bit because it will only lead to disappointments which is bad of course lol.

And within one generation they were creating multiple IPs and did well enough to actually make the 360 a raging success. Now I don't know what the Xbone slogan is, probably "Something Something Value", because that's how tepid they've become.

Xenoblade Chronicles, Bravely Default, Etrian Odyssey, Zero Escape, are all good games on Nintendo consoles. Whether they interest your particular tastes or not is irrelevant. They're celebrated games.

I think Halo's campaigns blow, and sadly like you I ponied up for the celebration of mediocrity that is the PS4, but unlike you I didn't lower my standards enough to think when that system sells me nonsense that I got something entertaining instead. Multi-console issue aside, it wouldn't make their lineups less weak, besides I lumped them together, collectively, to make them look good. They didn't come out looking good. Even as your one primary, their validation is supposed to be their world, barn burning, trail blazing, one of a kind, you're in for a treat because this lineup is sweet; exclusives. Where the most of them, you can forget the idea of them being great, most of them aren't reaching the status of mere "a good video game".

They get games another platform already gets, but said platform actually plays them at a framerate that is far more ideal, and reaches resolutions that will be a standard as far as TVs. Pretty sure that fits my point.

I got Halo with hoods (Destiny), Call of Duty with mechs (Titanfall), an open world game in a big city (Watchdogs), Left 4 Dead's tank fights but done shitty (Evolve), and then yeah Nintendo published two ips that I actually can't just write off as more of the same shit. And if it's the bad design? Come on, I have plenty of material to work with there as well.

That's the funny thing about Cows, they simply ignore the fact that the PS4 has the worst games as of this moment. It's always 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 when greatness arrives. They are such puppets.

I believe the issue is that the industry cant seem to sustain a good amount of mid-tier projects and Japan is pretty fucked up right now.

I know someone is gonna bring up indies but...no. Its not the same and it doesnt really fill that gap.

tbh consoles are cheaper and easier to set up, which boosts their appeal.

I feel like the absolute number of good games this gen (well at least this year) is nothing to complain about, there are just less third party exclusives (MGS V for example, being multiplat, after IV was a Sony exclusive).

This is going both ways as well, more console stuff coming to PC, but more mid-tier PC stuff also coming to consoles (eg. Divinity: OS, Wasteland 2, SOMA, Talos Principle). And honestly I think this is a good thing. Exclusives are pretty dumb unless they are being made for a system with the ability to play specific types of games that other systems can't (eg. RTS games for PC).

Back in the 60's, movie theaters only showed movies from certain production companies (Universal, MGM etc.), since all of the theaters were owned by said production companies. Eventually, this stopped happening, with all theaters showing movies from all production companies (indie films aside). I feel like something kinda similar is happening in the mainstream gaming industry right now.

As long as stuff that only really works on PC remains intact (stuff like Arma, RTS games) I'd be happy if there was no reason to own more than one system. This way everyone but the fanboys win.

Most of the good games have moved to multiplats. We saw this towards the end of last gen. That trend continued through this gen. If you have a PC the consoles seem very inferior at this point since most of the big budget AAA games now end up on the PC.

I think this is rather good for gamers as now buying any of the major platforms (but the WiiU), you're guarenteed to get the majority of the good games that come out over a generation.

Owning multiple platforms is more of a luxury rather than a necessity like it was in the 6th gen and early 7th gen if you wanted to enjoy a broad range of games. I'm ok with that.

I have been content with my PS4/3DS this gen. I buy the games that appeal to me when they go on sale and a majority of my friends are on PSN this gen. The "lack" of games doesn't bother me cause all that means to me is that I can save my money and/or explore other hobbies.

PC is always the best option but a simple couch experience is still nice, the difference in graphics isn't like last gen having 1080p+ dx11 vs the extremely outdated consoles(yet).

1080p gaming is perfectly fine on ps4, having a system going above will generally get you buying a GPU for near the price of a console. Until I can get a 4k or at least a 1440p experience with a $200 GPU I'll just wait it out with my PlayStation and lower end PC games.

Hey, I'm on a tight budget and I'm getting to play stuff like Minecraft, Halo, Dark Souls, Fallout, Madden, some decent free games (rentals really) through GWG, and lots of others. No big complaints here

I would be pissed off if tons of great games kept coming out and I wasnt able to keep up or enjoy them (especially online multiplayer games, I get turned off when I dont play multiplayer games from or atleast very early on it release date. I hate going into a multiplayer game 5+ months after release as a noob who has to catch up greatly.)
