@tushar172787: Then what kind of PC does it take to put it 4K gaming? Do you have any idea what it costs to output these next gen games at such resolutions? It's not cheap. Not one bit.
Well This is the first Gen I dont own any consoles since the nes. I waited this gen because I bought a ps3 last gen for 700 and it sat there collecting dust.
This gen I have been waiting and still dont see a reason I must own any of then at this point. My gaming pc holds me over. I almost bought an xbox for halo 5 but after reading and watching vids its not worth buying the system for.
@jg4xchamp: I have been. Got to play Megaman X for the first time this year : ]
Baed on the :] symbol, I assume Megaman X was one of your top games you played this year?
Of the 28 games I beat this year, yeah it's might be the best game I beat this year.
Well, if you are a PC gamer who wants secondary consoles to provide a totally different experience (ie exclusives), then hell yes, they're pretty terrible. But, that's pretty similar to how it was last gen too, and even the one before that for the Xbox, with it's killer apps like Halo 1 and 2, KOTOR 1 and 2, Fable, etc all on PC too.
I don't think it's a case that consoles have gotten worse in their game selections, so much as budgets have skyrocketed so everything has to be multiplat now. In terms of how many actual good games they are getting? I think they're doing pretty great, PS4 and Xbox One had a lot of standout titles this year and the WiiU, though with silly long droughts and short lifespan, gets some really good Nintendo 1st party, as you'd expect. 2016 looks to be pretty stacked with titles as well.
I don't think most gamers are buying every system for their own "unique properties", I think most gamers just want to pick up 1 system to game, and play Souls, Metal Gear Solid, The Witcher, Batman, Fallout, Dragon Age and so on in some capacity, Xbox, Playstation or PC. (WiiU of course does it's own thing)
Does it matter that Metal Gear Solid IV was an exclusive but Metal Gear Solid V isn't? The PS4 would be more appealing as a secondary system if MGSV was exclusive to it, but that rare and specific use case aside, who actually cares? The PS4 gamers still get it, but now Xbox and PC gamers do too. I prefer more gamers to have access to these titles, and don't particularly care that some PC gamers have less reason to buy a PS4... I mean, so what? Isn't that a good thing, saves you money and effort?
I thought PC gamers need games to prove their machine worth the money.....
Have been busy with rocket league lately.
So TC,are you trying to say you feel boring on gaming? It's ok.Stop mess your head with video games,go away and try something new.
rocket league is also on PC
^this, and it's cross play between PC & PS4 gamers... @lastcoin how in the hell did you not notice this.

who said you need 4k for PC to be better than console?

Yeah and thus the corporate cheerleading for products that are not only trying to be identical, but are also wildly outclassed by a clear superior - one that's not even debateable with anything other than you would rather have less because comfort.
More to it, at least when they were diverse products, it made the whole "for the better of the industry because competition" mantra actually work, and we got cool shit, progressive shit, ballsy shit. That's no longer the case, and that is something the first party could at least provide on some level, but the first party suck right now unless it's Nintendo. Their output has been garbage. And you're right it's only an issue for those of us primarily gaming on a PC, doesn't mean said short coming doesn't exist.
Garbage is the word I would use to describe the hardware in these consoles. As for Software, It's just been a slow gen for some odd reason as the jump in tech was little compared to other gens. Maybe it is the fact Sony is almost broke and Nintendo lost there way. Maybe it is the fact MS management was transitioning. Hopefully now that Sony is profitable again, MS has better management and Nintendo got there head out of their behind things will get much better.
@tushar172787: So we've gone from "console killing" to "just slightly better than consoles." Nice goal posts.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Tw36zy
plays games at almost 60fps in console settings: check
has 16x Anisotropic filtering: check
much better draw distance: check
more/cheaper games: check
more density of NPC/grass/objects etc: check
1080p that doesn't look blurry as hell as console: check
upto 4x 4K monitor support (not for games though lol :P)
better/free online: check
faster downloads/streaming: check
everything else that you can do like surfing/typing etc: check
mods: check
better software/hardware support
what else do you want? considering people make such a huge debate about PS4 killing X1 performance, i don't have the problem in saying this is a console killing PC...
@tushar172787: 16x anisotropic filtering and greater draw distance are wholesomely not console killing graphical features at all. The higher fps is very nice, but it is definitely not console killing by itself. What low standards to have for "console killing." Your goal posts are a ridiculous farce.

lol gotta love that DC..
"console killing" is not the graphical features by itself, but it's a whole load of other reasons like games, build quality, features etc.
it's hilarious that you are saying i am backtracking when you brought 4K gaming to a games discussion thread..
also, LOL at you saying AF, draw distance and FPS is minor. face facts:
1. without AF, you might as well be gaming at 720p because almost everything not directly in front of you is blurry as hell...
2. draw distance plays a major part too.. consoles have lower-than-lowest PC settings draw distance that's so bad it's unacceptable..
3. framerate is as important as resolution.. what the hell are you smoking? double the FPS= not good? oh wait...
the graphics card on PC is capable of maxing out/close to maxing out at 1080p 30fps at most settings..
the PS4 and X1 would struggle to do the same at 800p and 720p respectively...
@tushar172787: "$1200 console killing PC" refers to graphics. Obviously you didn't get the memo. You're detracting to non-graphical features and grotesquely overstating minor graphical features you do list. Lots of moving goal posts. Or am I to guess that you are saying the price of the PC you buy affects how often Steam Sales go up? Get yourself straight already.

stopped reading at "minor graphical features".. do you know how important they are?
This thread is filled with a bunch of unintelligent nonsense. Comparing an "inferior" $400 to a $1200 PC set-up makes as about as much sense as three-legged unicorns.
this^ is your original comment..
i said that a "console killing" PC i.e one with better hardware/games/online etc at 450$ is enough.. you don't need a 1200$ PC to prove that PC i s better than consoles...
People need to stop defending the consoles because they suck. PC rapes consoles. I can understand if you can't afford a good PC, that is fine. Don't come on here trying to defend the consoles. The worst is when people start talking about console performance and visuals. If you really cared about that stuff, you would be gaming on PC as the consoles just don't cut it. Consoles are for exclusives and that's it. They are useless otherwise.
@tushar172787: Of course you dodged explaining how these other features are tied to the price of a PC. So it's not my fault you struggled understand I was referring to graphics.
well, then probably i am mistaken, and i apologize. i thought your comment was implying that a PC needs to be 1200$ to be as good as a console with same features etc...
Yup, not much else to say, the hardware is disappointing and the games aren't there. It does look like things are going to pick up next year, and as long as FROM is making PS4 exclusives, thats where I'll be.

Where have you been? Did you play Metal Gear Solid yet? Also that means you didn't get Gears remaster...me and aljosa suck at it : (

Yeah, anyone trying to pretend the Xbox and PS are anything other than 99% the same thing is silly.
I disagree about competition though, I think it's still very much there. I think it's great that Sony's PS4 performance forced MS to ditch all their gimmicky crap from the start of the gen. And game makers still compete against each other. Surely, every almost game being on almost every system (sorry WiiU!) means each game competes with more than ever before?
Agree about 1st party failing so bad, I'd like to see more interesting new stuff like Sunset Overdrive and (even though it turned out meh at best) Ryse. Next year looks pretty cool, for MS at least.
"And you're right it's only an issue for those of us primarily gaming on a PC, doesn't mean said short coming doesn't exist." - I don't think it affects many, beyond a small core of angry forum nerds like us who buy everything though. Most gamers I know aren't even on current gen yet, never mind have multiple systems.
@EG101: think it's a case of more so of gaming has basically peaked.
There's not really a lot that can be innovated in gaming now. It's getting harder and harder for devs to make new creative ideas. That's why a game like splatoon really stands out to me.
Where have you been? Did you play Metal Gear Solid yet? Also that means you didn't get Gears remaster...me and aljosa suck at it : (
I've been playing games instead of talking about them haha. And yeah, I played MGSV, I don't see myself ever beating it because I hate that everything just gets in the way of the phenomenal gameplay. The helicopter, the real time R&D, the story, the empty world. In a game where I can kidnap people via wormholes, why can I not move around the map without returning to the ACC?
I don't have an xbox one, so I'm waiting on the PC version. PM me your steam/psn, i have new accounts.
@EG101: "hopefully now that Sony is profitable again, MS has better management and Nintendo got there head out of their behind things will get much better."
What are the chances of that happening?
All three have already happened and the fruits are just now starting to show up. Game development is a slow process and Nintendo is making a new console with core gamers in mind.
I'm not a PC gamer I enjoy playing games on a console its allways been that way for me I could care less about how much better PC gaming is over consoles just give me a fun experience that's all I care about I don't give a crap about that xbox can only output in 900p and PS4 can do it in 1080p who gives a crap at the end of the day all I wanna do is play games and the xbox one and ps4 is good enough for me.
That would explain why i haven't felt the need to invest in one yet
This. I have a PS3 and PC and haven't felt the urge to upgrade yet. Hopefully Uncharted 4 and Horizon changes that because multiplats are for my PC
I own a PC and PS4. I must admit that the only time I turn on my ps4 is when the new games for PS+ release. I nab them then turn the system off for another month. I continue to pay because I figure I'll finally one day sit down and go through a console phase, it just hasn't happened since I bought the PS4. The last two gens just pale in comparison to the PS1/PS2/N64/GCN era. It's not even close. Games just aren't being released like they used too. They are taking 4+ years to develop games then they release a half finished project and expect us to pay another $50 in season passes/DLC.
This gen seems all about multiplats:
Dying Light, Shadow Of Mordor, MGS V, Blops, Battlefront, Batman, The Evil Within, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, ...
If you want 1080p cinematic experience you go with PS4.
If you want a decent experience you go with PC.
fixed :P
