Do you think the things move cant do but kinect can will be a big selling point?? Kinect can track the full body motion of your body. So you can kick but you cant kick with your feet on move.Pretty much anything dealing with your full body, move cant do. Anything move can do but kinect cant, can be done on the controller of 360. Only thing useful that youcan do on moveis maybe golf, but you can do that on kinect probably with better because of full body movement tracking. Pretty much what im interested in using kinect for you cant do that on move.

kinect can make you look like a douche bag more than a motion cotroller can... i mean seriously kinect just looks stupid,im not even a fan of the move tho. if i wanna wail around while i play a video game ill play DDR

A controller dont make you look less stupid. All people see when your playing with a controller is pushing buttons. Atleast with kinect you up and out of your chair. President would think that makes you look smarter and more in touch with reality.

Kinect can end up in bargain bins for fifty bucks. It can do that really well. It can also be a regrettable impulse purchase. It does those two things really really well.

Wow so your saying if i got a kinect president obama his self would give me props? and i would be playing a video game that is the opposite of reality. i would hope if obama seen me playing kinect he would slap me in the face

Things Move can do that Kinect can't:

  • Resident Evil 5
  • Heavy Rain
  • MAG
  • No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise
  • R.U.S.E.
  • Dead Space: Extraction
  • Infamous 2
  • Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
  • SOCOM 4
  • Sly Cooper
  • Rune Factory

Things Kinect can do that Move can't:

  • Dance Central
  • Dance Masters
  • Dance Paradise
  • Kinect Sports
  • Deca Sports Freedom
  • MotionSports
  • EA Sports Active 2.0*
  • Your Shape: Fitness Evolved
  • Get Fit With Mel B*
  • Zumba Fitness*
  • The Biggest Lose: Ultimate Workout

Hooray.

You should see the list of things the Wii can do that neither of them can.

Bleh, motion control system wars fatigue.

A selling point? Maybe, but big, I doubt. The hardware'll mean nothing if the software backing isn't sufficient (though it'll definately sell well).

the eye just looks for changes in pixels, something webcams have been doing for around 15 years. Kinect uses infrared sensors that allows it to see in 3D

Kinect will be more significant with interface rather than games. I can see Kinect technology incorporated into laptop web cameras, web cams, and other devices for MS.

So basically many functions we perform with mouse and keyboard will be transferred to eye tracking. Hand and body motions are just the first step. When they can track eye movements, navigating a computer becomes faster and easier than ever conceived.

But what would the point be? short keys and a mouse is way more efficient than "Kinect" for laptops would be. Even if the "mouse" was actually a touch pad.

Kinect is way more appealing than move, simply because it's different. I'm not saying it's going to be good or bad, but I'm hoping for the former. At least MS is thinking outside the box. For that alone we should be praising them.

I've played games where the PS3 uses your body motion to play games. It could do it with only the camera. Creature Feature is a game on PS3 where you move your body to move these creatures to safety. It's idiotic to play a game that way and makes you feel stupid, idiotic, and at a loss for a controller. Kinect is nothing but a glorified camera. MS are idiots to sell that thing to people.

*Linking of point to Eyetoy made by sony*

*statement of Kinect not being able to do FPS*

Think about instantly logging in because your specific eye works better than a password. Lets say you have multiple windows up in your monitor, instead of having to click the specific window you look at it and immediately start doing actions in the window you are looking at (this may sound extremely trivial but little things like that could seriously speed up the process). The freedom of being able to control your computer as long as you are somewhat near it is a big deal. This shatters barriers for casual users. SO many functions that Kinect technology will use, will be able to streamline computers even more for inexperienced users. When the basic person can do much more with computers due to new tools, advanced users range of tools exponentially increase. Before the mouse, everyone used qwerty and many people scoffed at the idea of the mouse.

The non gaming applications for Kinect are great, that's where MS should focus its marketing about, but what is really happening is that " you are the controller" and " motion free gaming" are taking the biggest part of the campain.

Digital Foundry states that it's capable of full body-motion tracking. How it does so, I am unsure, so the technique could well be inferior to the Kinect's.

"Part of the frustration with the games played at the launch event was the fact that little of this groundbreaking tech was being used at all. Motion Fighter was - for me - a real missed opportunity. Its gesture-based control system felt laggy and Wii-like. Quite why that style of gameplay was chosen when Move is capable of full body motion-tracking left me both dismayed and bewildered."

Your idea with eyes is incredibly impractical. EDIT: The windows not the login.

And these days little kids are apt with computers.

Voice controls if voice recognition stops sucking and natural language processing improves will be useful. And touch UIs will become even more prevalent too I imagine.

But unless technology develops to a stage where it's actually like Minority Report and not PR nonsense, and it's cheap, efficient and effective, the mouse and keyboard aren't going anywhere fast.

The trick here is, this has nothing to do with Kinect, things like eye tracking on computers have been available long befor kinect came along, stephen hawkings chair uses eye tracking on a computer for his speech for example, hell they even have thought tracking for computer access in the works (seen demos of that on the gadget show ages ago). My point is kinect will not be more significant to interface as the things kinect is doing to interface has been available for some time now, it's just used in certain ways and is generally much more advanced and precise.

And no one said they were going anywhere. It would be incorporated into the control. Voice recognition is also very viable as we get better at noise cancellation. A computer that can track body and eye movements, have a touch screen UI, mouse/keyboard, voice recognition, and 3d display is the foundation for holographic input and output.

Ohh, well there is laptops available that use eye tracking to select words for computer generated speech, an example of this is shown on a scrubs episode where a man is paralised in bed uses a specialised laptop to track his eyes for his speech (a bad example as it's from a tv show), i thought stephen hawking used a similar setup, but you are right his uses his cheeks, but the tech does already exist none the less. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_tracking

its not just what kinect can do what move cant. kinect just does it better. like the normal motion controlled games party, fitness ectect. and once kinect starts to work with the controller then it will also be better for core games.

Kinect + Controller = Move, that's why Move is better and has far wider applications in gaming :P . Not to mention, using anything that has buttons with Kinect is defying the Core that Kinect was built around. See what i did there.

[QUOTE="musicalmac"]Kinect is way more appealing than move, simply because it's different. I'm not saying it's going to be good or bad, but I'm hoping for the former. At least MS is thinking outside the box. For that alone we should be praising them.omho88
The non gaming applications for Kinect are great, that's where MS should focus its marketing about, but what is really happening is that " you are the controller" and " motion free gaming" are taking the biggest part of the campain.

This. The kinect is pretty cool when it comes tothings likenavigating the dashboard, but the games honestly don't look too great except for Dance Central, IMO.

Introduce a huge amount of latency into an offline game.

Kinect will be more significant with interface rather than games. I can see Kinect technology incorporated into laptop web cameras, web cams, and other devices for MS.

So basically many functions we perform with mouse and keyboard will be transferred to eye tracking. Hand and body motions are just the first step. When they can track eye movements, navigating a computer becomes faster and easier than ever conceived.

thedude-

Kinect can do eye tracking now?

That's a rhetorical question: of course it can't. It looks like the fanboys still believe Kinect is going to make them into Tom Cruise in Minority Report.

[QUOTE="CajunShooter"]

[QUOTE="slipknot0129"]Kinect can track the full body motion of your body. So you can kick but you cant kick with your feet on move.Pretty much anything dealing with your full body, move cant do. slipknot0129

The playstation eye can do full body tracking. Ever heard of a game called Kung Fu Live coming out on PSN?

Kung Fu Live

Yeah I see people waiting in line just for that.

Well, you said that Move didn't do full body tracking, and he showed that it does. You didn't specify that anyone would enjoy it :P. I think all Kinect has (physically) that Move doesn't is the extra infrared camera to track depth, the rest is just software differences.

not even close to the same thing, the game tracks the outline of your body, thats why he punches and kicks to the side, because the camera wouldnt be able to see you punch forward, on kinect you can. 2D is a big difference between 3D

Move offers nothing new while Kinect is something many people haven't experienced yet. Although, they are all motion sensing nonsense.
