You can jump like a monkey with kinect!
honestly, ppl should do that in zoo, it's gonna be awesome.

Well, you said that Move didn't do full body tracking, and he showed that it does. You didn't specify that anyone would enjoy it :P. I think all Kinect has (physically) that Move doesn't is the extra infrared camera to track depth, the rest is just software differences.[QUOTE="sam_nintendo"][QUOTE="slipknot0129"]Yeah I see people waiting in line just for that.

not even close to the same thing, the game tracks the outline of your body, thats why he punches and kicks to the side, because the camera wouldnt be able to see you punch forward, on kinect you can. 2D is a big difference between 3D
And that difference is never going to be used for Kinect in a significant manner meaning that all games done on Kinect can be done on the EyeToy or with Move. The only really interesting thing about move is that it's a pseudo mouse IMO. At least the thing looks like it could have certain uses over a normal controller (as in games where a mouse would have been handy).
As for Kinect, it has yet to shown any kind of use or function that I would personally deem worthwhile. In fact, the most "core" things I've seen on Kinect have more been matters of forcing the scheme upon the content than improving experiences.
Keep up all the can and can't do talk, I'll reserve my judgement.

Well, I won't pretend to be an expert, and you may very well be right, so we'll have to see what Kinect is doing come launch time.Kinect is way more appealing than move, simply because it's different. I'm not saying it's going to be good or bad, but I'm hoping for the former. At least MS is thinking outside the box. For that alone we should be praising them.musicalmaci always wanted a lem to explain to me how upgrading eyetoy is ground breeaking? its no more ground breaking than upgrading a wiimote.

The problem is exactly the 3d tracking, it simply doesn't work the way MS is trying to sell, and so in the real world, what the hardware actually does only allows for devs to make little less then what you see on PSeye and Eyetoy games. Theres a saying in the military, keep it simple and stupid, PSeye/Eyetoy works because its simple, MS tried to take a step larger than its legs and it just failed. Saying things like "this is something completely new, its gaming with no controller" or all the acting even the voice recognition its something that has been done on the PS2 already. In short, not only it does nothing new, it can even keep up to the promises...You said move can't do full body tracking, it can as shown by Kung fu live, no one said it was good or bad, but none the less it can do what you said it couldn't, anyways i've yet to see a kinect game that looks any better. It checks for pixel changes. Not full body movement. dude who cares how it tracks the full body movement? the eye just looks for changes in pixels, something webcams have been doing for around 15 years. Kinect uses infrared sensors that allows it to see in 3D IR track your private part and get prostate cancerI love this post. Totally true, they're different control formats. One's got an analog knob, a pointer, BUTTONS (important); The other's got a full body scanner that tracks motion in 3 dimensional space. When you need active full body movement in a closed space, Kinect will do things you can't replicate with Move. When you need to run around with an avatar or play a shooting game? Realistically, only on Move. The short story though is shinrabanshou's post in its entirety, I just had to post all that to avoid moderation for giving a +props.Hooray.

Kinect will be more significant with interface rather than games. I can see Kinect technology incorporated into laptop web cameras, web cams, and other devices for MS.
So basically many functions we perform with mouse and keyboard will be transferred to eye tracking. Hand and body motions are just the first step. When they can track eye movements, navigating a computer becomes faster and easier than ever conceived.

That's a rhetorical question: of course it can't. It looks like the fanboys still believe Kinect is going to make them into Tom Cruise in Minority Report.

But what would the point be? short keys and a mouse is way more efficient than "Kinect" for laptops would be. Even if the "mouse" was actually a touch pad.
Think about instantly logging in because your specific eye works better than a password. Lets say you have multiple windows up in your monitor, instead of having to click the specific window you look at it and immediately start doing actions in the window you are looking at (this may sound extremely trivial but little things like that could seriously speed up the process). The freedom of being able to control your computer as long as you are somewhat near it is a big deal. This shatters barriers for casual users. SO many functions that Kinect technology will use, will be able to streamline computers even more for inexperienced users. When the basic person can do much more with computers due to new tools, advanced users range of tools exponentially increase. Before the mouse, everyone used qwerty and many people scoffed at the idea of the mouse. What if you have an itch? You go and screw things up.
The non gaming applications for Kinect are great, that's where MS should focus its marketing about, but what is really happening is that " you are the controller" and " motion free gaming" are taking the biggest part of the campain. This. The kinect is pretty cool when it comes tothings likenavigating the dashboard, but the games honestly don't look too great except for Dance Central, IMO. I don't even see that. And these days little kids are apt with computers.
Voice controls if voice recognition stops sucking and natural language processing improves will be useful. And touch UIs will become even more prevalent too I imagine.
But unless technology develops to a stage where it's actually like Minority Report and not PR nonsense, and it's cheap, efficient and effective, the mouse and keyboard aren't going anywhere fast.
And no one said they were going anywhere. It would be incorporated into the control. Voice recognition is also very viable as we get better at noise cancellation. A computer that can track body and eye movements, have a touch screen UI, mouse/keyboard, voice recognition, and 3d display is the foundation for holographic input and output. The problem with voice recognition isn't noise discrimination; it's the fact that speech is itself rather imprecise: not just in semantics (how does a computer tell the difference between "Recognize speech" and "Wreck a nice beach") but in tone, too (as in, a program trained for Americans might stumble when a Brit or Australian speaks).Nope. I was talking about future iterations and applications of the technology. Please don't jump to conclusions.[QUOTE="thedude-"][QUOTE="Dire_Weasel"]
