how can an open platform be put in the same league with closed platform??
omho88
because they're both similar gaming systems and this isn't company wars.
Dreamcast is also a gaming system and we dun put it in the equation ?!!And i never mentioned Company in my text. Consoles are different in nature than the PC, i can have a million spec. for PCs but there is always one spec for consoles, this is the key in the development process, thus the differences in the games ........ They are gaming systems but they are NOT similar. I dun know how you even wrote this ??!!dreamcast goes in the legacy forum. the pc plays games and even share many games with consoles. why does it matter that it can be configured in different ways?
This makes no sense. The reason threads exist are to restrict discussion on one subject relating to the board. Therefore a thread might restrict discussion between two games, companies, platforms, ect
If every thread must inculde everything every other thread discussion and can limit conversations every thread would be the exact same and then SW wouldnt be a board. It would just be one big thread in GGD.
Can you imagine if every thread in OT was just OT. I could talk about God in Food threads.

It shouldn't. Threads should be allowed to limit conversations on different topics even if that means some of them focus strictly on PS3 and 360 and exclude PC and Wii.[QUOTE="CaseyWegner"][QUOTE="EdenProxy"]

Nobody is saying that you can't have a thread that talks about two competing consoles, just that you can't use the term 'exclusive' to describe something that is in now way, shape or form, exclusive if it's on the PC as well.

hence the term "console" .... anyway i wasn't talking about this issue in particular, i was talking about gfx kings threads and console gfx kings.Ok my sugguestion for a new term to use instead of Console exclusive. (bare with me as it's still a work in progress).
Game A is "for the Xbox 360 but not on the PS3 or Wii, the PC can kick rocks."
Would that not be sufficient.

How about not.. :| As stated many, MANY times in this tread the proposal on the table is that we not use the term console exclusive (that it somehow excludes the PC), when asked why we have to include the PC in every argument you (and others) stated you don't have to include it. To simply "find another term to use." This is the term I'd like to use in the SW's.

No.. You should have just locked the thread after you edited the OP to add this instead of making it look like us SW users have the ability to influence or change decisions we do not agree with. People here have made good reasons to why we don't think some of these new rules should be implemented. If we knew our complaints were falling on deaf ears we probably wouldn't have bothered.
I look forward to SolidTY bringing back the idea of a SW council a idea I was opposed to ever since it was brought up, I can now see why the idea now might not be so bad.

i left it open for questions to be answered. i never gave any indication that anything could be changed.
Allowing MLB the Show 10 to be exclusive was a major goof by this forum. If you go by that logic, all the handheld versions of EA sports games throughout the years are exclusive too. Many of these versions excluded game modes and features such as online play, online leagues, fully featured franchise modes etc. The game engines of these handheld games could be different enough that the only thing it had in common with its console brethren was that it was depicting the same sport. This includes different player models, animations, hit boxes, you name it.

SW Council was a bad idea that isn't ever going to happen. In order for any user based set of rules to actually be put in placed and enforced they would have to be made permanent board rules in SWs that we would police. That's just not going to happen. Enough people hated it when SWs started being more heavily moderated for the many breaking of ToS, think of what would happen if we started moderating against people's opinions because a small group of people who frequent this board decided that this is how everybody should think.

Yeah I expressed my opinion on how I think the rules you think are right are indeed wrong, and I gave a lot of points to as to why I though that.
How is this an offence to the rules. It doesn't say anywhere that I can't criticise SW rules.

that's fine. just don't call it any type of exclusive. if you find yourself somehow making a thread involving only the 360, ps3, and wii then you need to first ask yourself "why?".

This.
And I guess since there's no "multiplats" in baseball (i'm guessing players aren't often shared amongst teams?) the analogy doesn't work at all in this context.

It would be hard to compare 30 different teams simultaneously in a succinct way.... but let's say that MLB consisted of only 4 teams. Would mlb.com moderators ban fans from engaging in a Yanks/Sox debate? No, they would not. And quite frankly, I think that console exclusivity is much less about "acting" like the PC doesn't exist than banning it's use is about pretending that consolites don't exist.Gamers who only game on consoles exist, and in large numbers. This term is for them. For them, whether a game is on the PC is non-impactful... and whether a game is on one console and not another is EXTREMELY impactful. PC exists, there is no "pretending" that it doesn't, but it simply doesn't impact on the avenues by which consolites engage in the recreational activity of gaming. Console Exclusive is not a slur, or a pretense, it is simply a descriptive term that has a specific (and might I add valid and meaningful) definition. To deny this population who no one here denies exists a descriptive term that is useful to their realities is absurd. Banning any useful vocabulary (outside of slurs) is absurd.
