That's a matter of opinion personally when OoT came out I liked it as much as Super Mario 64 I dont think it's the holy grail of videogames just a good game.
Mostly it's personal preference. I liked Wind Waker more than Orcarina.
On Gamerankings, I highly doubt it. GTAIV and Mario Galaxy were the best bets, but they had sheer numbers going against them. Due to the fact that OoT only had like 30 reviews counted, statistically it's near impossible for a game to outrank it.
I think the whole "best game ever" argument is pretty dumb. If people actually went back and played the games they mention they would realize how poorly most of them have aged and how little those games deserve the title.

Agreed, Zelda was originally my most favourite franchise but it's now sharing the seat with others. OOT was never the best game for me, Super Mario World remains the best ever.

Yeah, but we dont live during that time period any more. If the thread title were named something like "best game ever when it cameout"then i'd agree with the majority of the gamers here.
Claiming a single game to be The Best Game Ever is as arrogant as saying this music soundtrack is the best ever, or this movie is the best ever. There can only be multiple "Bests" existing within a genre, but never a singular game of ultimate gaming goodness. It's impossible, to say the least.
oh enough with the hating no not know this year but yeah miyamoto wil beat his own creation dnt you worry and yes oracrina of time is the best game off all time to me, Windwaker was great in the end the zelda franchise is my second favorite,first being sonic.And personally when i get to reviewing Super Mario Galaxy ill give it a 8.Its overated without a doubth.I personally enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine over it and if youve read my review yeah you can see.another thing i am not a mario hater so all mario fanboys dont hate me. It got dethroned about a little over 5 years ago in my book, but in the critic perpestive I'd say MGSV, Halo 4 (crazy I know but does have a chance for a new engine and storyline), or possibly ME:2.
i'd say it's the most universally acclaimed game ever and the only thing that can change that is whatever launches with holographic technology and smell-o-vision.
Still the best game ever imo, but I'm not going to go around and tell everyone about it and force it on them that it is the best game ever. It's just opinion, there's no real best game ever as everyone has different tastes in gaming and while I may love something to death, others may think it's just average. /corny rant.
OOT has already been beaten by numerous games, its just that at the time this game was the most revolutionary and innvoative game relative to other titles, it was just insane how much better it was then everything else at the time.

nah seriously i feel that its a bad game, it really never was fun.
the only time it was fun when i was trying to jump out of a helipcoter and ontop of the statue of liberty, infact basically all the time i ignored the story and missions of the game it was fun. Although i enjoyed that bikie chase, that was fun the one were you go across the bridge and through the subway and stuff.
I dont think there will ever be a game that outclasses it's peers quite like OoT did. I mean when OoT landed it dropped like an atomic bomb. There was no game like that that last gen or this gen for that matter. Maybe a few in the generations before the n64/psone/saturn gen.

Once you take the childhood pink goggles off, you will realize that Majora's Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are all better games than Ocarina of Time. Nostalgia plays a huge role in so many people claiming Ocarina as the "best game ever." Just because it was your first experience, doesn't mean it is the best.

im in the middle of a playthrough of OoT right now, i still think its one of the best games to date, its graphics have aged sure but that was the start of console 3d graphics. Its gameplay is still better than most games in the last 10 years
