Honestly i don't believe in a "best game ever". There are sooooo many good games that it is hard to pick one.

I kinda agree. Actually I think WW, MM, and even TP are all better than OOT in one way or another. It's just that OOT had the most impact.

It has been by many games for me. I dont like Zelda that much so tons of games have beaten it for me.

I agree with that because it was so groundbreaking at the time my favourite Zelda game is Wind Waker.

LoZ:OoT will never be dethroned. No game ever since I played LoZ:Oot other than Goldeneye has satisfied me as much as it did.

zelda games are cartoonish, they lack the feeling of violence, no blood, etc. and made by nintendo i tried to like them but couldnt even bare them enough to get past the first part.

Ocarina of Time has already been dethroned as the best game ever a long time ago, in fact, I don't think it ever reached greatest game of all time status. But there was this game called Tony Hawk's Underground.

When you say "best ever" I suppose you are talking about Metacritic, Gamerankings or similar score. If that is the case I doubt it will ever be dethroned most high profile games nowadays get around 80 reviews while OOT has around 30. So for me GTA IV or Mario Galaxy are the ones that need to be dethroned, not OOT because it belongs to another time.

yes while the zeldas had great gameplay and ocarina was certainly a great leap in audiovisuals - the story of them all leaves a bit more to be desired which is why final fantasy has always been my drink of choiceBobSacamento

In his awesome monotone, of course. I will say, however, that Walton Simons is far more awesome than JC could ever hope to be (he has the updated firmware :o ). Helios beats them both though :P

i doubt it, it is all down to personal preference, but there are a lot of factors to choosing your greatest game, like the age you were and how interested you were in games at the time, also nostalgia kicks in, and games that were amazing at the time, would be poor-average to play today. i replayed oot on gamecube, and it was as good as i remembered it, replaying goldeneye recently on 64... not quite the same results, so that is why oot is my number 1.

Zelda: OOT still hold that crown. It scores the highest, it moved a lot of systems for N64, it was a breakthrough, and it help N64 to have a strong 2nd place (50+ million). It is not comparable to MGS 4 because MGS4 did not move that much PS3, was not really a breakthrough, and PS3 is still in 3rd place. The closest rival for Zelda: OOT, is a PSone game called Final Fantasy 7: It score 9.5, it moved PSone sales so much that it killed Saturn, it revolutionize traditional RPG, and traditional RPG became a trend to casuals because of it.

I don't think so; for practical reasons rather than anything else. Pretty much every top 10 list will finish with ocarina because anything else would just be a bit controversial (in a negative way). I know it sounds silly but publications tend to want to appease their readership rather than antagonise it. Still I think it deservs its plaudits and those 'lol'ing at the idea of it even being 'crowned' are somewhat facing against the wind.

on gamerrankings no. but the greatest game ever is subjective. to the greatest game ever to me is going to be differnet from everyone else's.
