Thinking to swapping to PS3 from Xbox 360.

I'm just merely thinking about this. Doesn't do any harm to think, right? First I'm going to say this: I'm on my 4th or 5th Xbox 360.I'm not doing anything wrong with these systems. I'm plugging it in (directly into the wall, not a power strip), hooking it to my TV, inserting game, and running it. That's all I'm doing. I play my PC more than I play my Xbox and somehow, it still manages to break.

So, with the good exclusives planned for the PS3 I was thinking about switching over to that -- but I had this question to ask: Is the PS3 any more stable than the Xbox 360? Every other thread I seem to notice in the Xbox 360 forum is "omg, red rings of deat" and what not. I will really consider moving to the PS3 if I, indeed, will not have any problems with it like I always have with the Xbox 360.

I'm not bashing the Xbox 360. I'm just trying to say that I'm having seemingly non-stop problems with it. So I ask you (mainly PS3 owners/former owners) about the stability that I will get if I buy a PS3. Thanks!

I switched to PS3 at launch for a variety of reasons. One being the RROD. No issues so far with my PS3. And I've rarely seen a system that is defective on the PS3 forum.

I think you will be happy with the move especially as a PC gamer. Between PC and PS3 you get almost everything good on X360 anyway. PS3 has more true exclusives.

How about you stop thinking about it and just do it already and see if you like it.

I don't have the money for a PS3. But if I trade in my Xbox 360 (I'm still covered under the 30 day warranty) I can use it to buy a PS3 when I gather up the money in a month or so.

You would think that I could just keep taking them back in, but my Gamestop (there's 2 near me, + an EB Games) is just about out of them so I may as well trade it in and get store credit...save up, then buy a PS3. There's no harm in thinking about it though.

PS3's defective rate is at less than 1%.

I'd like to add though that selling/trading a console for any other reason than games is bad IMO.

I think you're being naive. The PS3 has a pretty great lineup next year but we know little to nothing about what's coming for the 360/Wii and PS3 exclusives so far have proven to be all flash no substance (Lair, Ratchet etc)

You also have to consider third party support in the future and only a lunatic would consider making an exclusive PS3 game at this point. As for those third partry exclusives already announced, given that they cost multiple millions of dollars to make you can expect to see more of them end up on the 360

and dont forget PS3 multiplats suck because (according to cows) "devs are lazy"

i have both and i play my ps3 more because of the free online i cant stand paying for laggy service(live) i dont care if live is better im not paying it the ps3 has the right to be laggy because its free but OMG its not but yeah i would save up then just have both plus the ps3 nxt year will be very good indeed

I can play Crysis on high settings (actually the demo I DL'd was bugged so that's ALL I could play), and that's a good question. Mainly, I wanted an Xbox 360 so I could play some of the games my friends were playing. Why not get the best of two worlds? But because of the defective rate of this whole deal, I may just have to trade it in while I still can.

See, I'm still covered by the 30 day coverage Gamestop gives me. Therefore, I could do two of the following:

A: Not trade in my Xbox 360 and let the days run out on the 30 day coverage only to wait and see if the Xbox dies or not (if it does, I have to send it in to Microsoft costing me money to ship it and wait 2 weeks for a new/repaired one).

Or

B: Trade it in for a full store credit refund (because I can't get cash) and save up a little for a PS3 -- a much more stable machine (so people say).

I already have one friend who plays the PS3 online and has been wanting me to get one for a little while anyway.

well my advice is not to trade it in.

why you ask? well just cause there is a large defect rate on the 360 doesnt mean everyone with a 360 will get the rrod, i for one have hadmy 360for almost two years and its been fine

also you get a 3 year warrenty on the 360 and shipping is free of charge, so youre not really paying for the repairs

get a ps3 for sure causeit has a great lineup of games and games that will be out in 2008

500 dollars for the 80 gb w/ motorstorm + 5 blu rays movies is a STEAL

even if u buy the 500$ 60gb is worth it,

the 400$ if ur on a budget.

and with the most promising 2008-2009 lineup. its really a good time to buy the ps3.

my advice... see how much the trade in value is , since ur going to gamestop i think its very low.

keep ur xbox360 see if u can purchase more warranty (since it can rrod anytime, longer warranty the better)

then save up for that ps3 and make the plunge

trust me. the second u take it out and put it on a table, u'll be like 'whoa, so this is the ps3'

its a sexy thing, seriously... and it runs quiet.

on the part about games? on the current market u got decent games like resistance, bunch of demos to test out games, heavenly sword, ratchet and clank , uncharted, ridge racer 7, tekken 5 dark resurrection, and best but not least the whole ps2 library.

I thought the $399 version had no BC. Even my local Toys R Us has a big sign across the $399 version that says "Will not play PS2 games".

Another question of mine is the PS3 crowd. The whole "gamer crowd" kind of speaks for itself at times, but each unique crowd is different than the other.

For example...what I've gathered about the Wii crowd (I used to own a Wii and was involved) is that it's more childish than the other consoles.

The PC crowd is more mature and adult since those type of people generally only know how to build PCs.

The Xbox 360 crowd is a mix between children (ages 11-15) and adults -- but the majority of players I encounter on Xbox Live consist of obnoxious, unfriendly / unpleasant individuals with the intentions solely to annoy and/or offend.

I don't know anything about the PS3 crowd, though. Could someone lend me their insight?

I'm just going to take a guess and say the crowd on PS3 is better. Only because it's less mainstream and considering the price (not including the recent price drop) means more of the people who went out and bought it are probably hardcore.

XBL was much more pleasant when all the kids were still enjoying their free PS2 online. Since 360 has become more mainstream, there are ALOT more kids and douchebags of all sorts.

However I must also say going mainstream did do some good things for XBL. Back in the original Xbox days racism was REALLY bad. People through the N word around like nothing and told racist jokes.(Really bothered me).I see much less of that nowdays, there seems to be a much better mix of people from all races/walks of life etc and they just won't put up with the BS. Nine times out of 10 when I'm a room and someone is creating a bad atmosphere, they get booted. Then we all talk about what a douchebag the guy was :D

its a sexy thing, seriously... and it runs quiet.

on the part about games? on the current market u got decent games like resistance, bunch of demos to test out games, heavenly sword, ratchet and clank , uncharted, ridge racer 7, tekken 5 dark resurrection, and best but not least the whole ps2 library.

so 360 cows. who got no games?

Another question of mine is the PS3 crowd. The whole "gamer crowd" kind of speaks for itself at times, but each unique crowd is different than the other.

For example...what I've gathered about the Wii crowd (I used to own a Wii and was involved) is that it's more childish than the other consoles.

The PC crowd is more mature and adult since those type of people generally only know how to build PCs.

The Xbox 360 crowd is a mix between children (ages 11-15) and adults -- but the majority of players I encounter on Xbox Live consist of obnoxious, unfriendly / unpleasant individuals with the intentions solely to annoy and/or offend.

I don't know anything about the PS3 crowd, though. Could someone lend me their insight?

I'm just going to take a guess and say the crowd on PS3 is better. Only because it's less mainstream and considering the price (not including the recent price drop) means more of the people who went out and bought it are probably hardcore.

XBL was much more pleasant when all the kids were still enjoying their free PS2 online. Since 360 has become more mainstream, there are ALOT more kids and douchebags of all sorts.

However I must also say going mainstream did do some good things for XBL. Back in the original Xbox days racism was REALLY bad. People through the N word around like nothing and told racist jokes.(Really bothered me).I see much less of that nowdays, there seems to be a much better mix of people from all races/walks of life etc and they just won't put up with the BS. Nine times out of 10 when I'm a room and someone is creating a bad atmosphere, they get booted. Then we all talk about what a douchebag the guy was :D

Undoubtably more reliable. I was considering 360 up until 2 things happened.

1. I heard about disk scratching and the red ring of death.

2. I read how the average user talks on forums. I would rather not play with them.

From then, choosing between Wii and PS3 was only easy because I prefer PS3's games.

Ahhhh, when I say that I guess I just mean popular.

Xbox for a long time really only had the better hardware and a few key exclusives (Halo)to stand on. Alot of people owned itas a second system. (Alot like how PS3 is now, diehards buy it as a secondaryfor the few exclusives they can't play on the other systems)

PS2 was the mainstream. If you could only have one system, it was the one to have, it provided the most bang for buck.

This time around 360 is the "mainstream" one. If you could only own one console, it provides the most mutiplatform games ( both PS3/360 games as well as 360/PC games) as well as being cheaper than PS3.

I know I'm not counting the Wii, I just see the Wii as appealing to a different audience. PC/PS3/360 share games. I'm talking about the type of people who would have those 3 to pick from.
