EA just confirmed that the Wii U will be getting the next Battlefield. Moreover, Ubisoft has already confirmed the development of a Wii U exclusive Assassins Creed, there is a Wii U exclusive Tekken, the Wii U enhanced Nina Gaiden 3. Is this a sign of better third party suppot for Nintendo's next console? EA, Ninja Theory, Rocksteady, Ubisoft, Activision, Irrational, Sega, Epic, Crytek, Bioware, DICE, Treyarch, Bethesda, Kojima, THQ Konami, Team Ninja, Capcom and Gearbox have all already confirmed an interest in/projects in progress on the Wii U. Are we looking at what will, if handled correctly, become the next generation's PS2?

The Wii U is confirmed to be more powerful than the PS3/Xox 360. Just how much more powerful it is is an unanswered qestion as of right now, though. Also, Nintendo is supposed to have greatly reworked the online for Wii U. We know nothing about how online will be on the new system, so let's wait and watch on that one.

Eh, I hope not. The thing looks... well, odd to hold, but all hands on previews stated that it is unexpectedly comfortable. We'll see, I suppose.

I'm hoping it was just a prototype and they've re-designed it since.

Comfort doesn't mean anything if the controls aren't precise and sensitive. That was the problem with the gamecube controller. It curved with the hand and didn't feel out of place at all, but it was bad for FPS games because the joysticks felt weird and the bumper/trigger buttons just weren't accurate enough for FPS.

WiiU will be like 1.5 generations above the Wii. Id say Nintendo fans will jump pretty easy.

True, and the slide pads along with the resistive touch screen aren't very comforting in that regard. We'll see how it all turns out upon its release, I suppose.

still dual analogs, no more awful than consoles play now. and with the option to use the wiimote + nunchuk it could play great.

The Wii U's online is the big unanswered question, more so since Nintendo have sent us so many mixed, conflicting messages about it.

Yup. But i'm not going to expect anything great. When the Wii was announced I thought it would be the greatest thing ever for FPS games and I played it once and found out how wrong I was. Luckily this new one has dual analogue sticks, so it shouldn't be too bad, although the dual analogues are ABOVE the other buttons on the pad, which is kind of weird. But we'll see.

"But the most interesting aspects of a Wii U Battlefield 3 are the elements that could return from earlier in the series' lifespan. EA president Frank Gibeau has mentioned that the touch-screen controller would allow for a 'commander mode', last seen in Battlefield 2. " What the ****? Yeh whoa mindblowing! I did this on PC in 2005. Why isn't it in BF3?

Pokemon on consoles will never happen. The main series will ALWAYS stay on the handhelds. The best we can expect is a true Pokemon Stadium 3 HD for the Wii U.

So you can wait to buy a game system to play a game that came out a year sooner on a console you probably already own?

Sadly and as awesome as it could be...it probably will never happend, i remember Satoshi Tajiri saying that he didn't want Pokemon to be on consoles since he believes the experience is more suited for handhelds.

Don't be so sure. Nintendo is aware of their fumbles with the 3DS launch. If WiiU were to launch with a 3D Pokemon RPG it would sell the consoles INSTANTLY.

I'd be okay with Friend Codes as long as there's only one per system tied to a universal account, 3DS styIe. Just there should be a universal account.

Obviously first again.Wii U will do a PS2 and have the highest selling consoles and games.

And the nextbox and PS4 will be again 2 gens behind the PC in terms of graphics. If graphics are so important than you need to play on the PC anyway.People like you dont belong to the consoles in the first place.

I highly doubt that the Wii U will ever be in that bad of a fix. My consideration is based on two assumptions: a) By the time the Xbox 720 and PS4 hit in late 2013/early 2014, the Wii U will have a pretty established install base. I'm guessing at least 16-20 million units sold worldwide. Third party publishers won't just ignore that. b) The next generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony will most likely not be big leaps from their current architecture. Sony has more or less already confirmed this, stating that it wants to capitalize on the Cell Architecture (most likely to get some returns from the enormous investments poured into its R&D), whereas Microsoft... I'm sure will want to push Kinect even further. Remember, the next generation will be a Super' generation. The difference in power between the Wii U and the PS4/Xbox 720 won't be as pronounced as the difference between the Wii and the PS360. It'll be about as much as the PS2 and the Xbox/GCN.

Looks like EA wasn't kidding when it said that it would be fully supporting the Wii U. Is this a sign of better third party suppot for Nintendo's next console? EA, Ninja Theory, Rocksteady, Ubisoft, Activision, Irrational, Epic, Crytek, Bioware, Bethesda, Kojima, Konami, Team Ninja, Capcom and Gearbox have all already confirmed an interest in/projects in progress on the Wii U. Are we looking at what will, if handled correctly, become the next generation's PS2?

Looks like EA wasn't kidding when it said that it would be fully supporting the Wii U. Is this a sign of better third party suppot for Nintendo's next console? EA, Ninja Theory, Rocksteady, Ubisoft, Activision, Irrational, Epic, Crytek, Bioware, Bethesda, Kojima, Konami, Team Ninja, Capcom and Gearbox have all already confirmed an interest in/projects in progress on the Wii U. Are we looking at what will, if handled correctly, become the next generation's PS2?

The PS2 had lots of good exclusives as well so it's not next PS2

So will this ;) Nintendo's first party is unsurpassed, personal opinion aside ;)

and no multiplat support *i assume that's what he meant*.

Even if the PS4/720 aren't huge leaps (which I still doubt), I just don't see how getting some of the same multiplats the 360/PS3 have puts the Wii U in any position to be a "next-gen PS2".

These aren't next-gen games. They're current-gen games being ported to another system. Assuming the PS4/720 are backwards compatible, they'll already have every game the Wii U has, plus a lot more.

Remember... install base is irrelevant if the system isn't powerful enough to justify a port, and if hardcore gamers buy their games on other systems (ie. the Wii). It seems like a lot of Nintendo fans are now in a state of 'hoping' that MS/Sony don't release powerful systems. Rather than living in such a state of uncertainty, I would urge potential Wii U buyers to just wait this out and see what happens.
