This generation just isn't that good period

Xbox 360 and PS3 combo suck compared to the Xbox and PS2 combo of last gen. Practically every genre is dead  besides generic shooters.

Platformers? Dead. There's like 2 out.

Fighters? Almost dead. SFIV might save it... yeah right.

JRPGs? Microsoft is trying but the fact is almost all of the JRPGs just don't live up to expectations. There's a couple standouts but it's nothing like the previous gens.

Action adventure? Maybe a couple each year, but it's pretty much dead.

The consoles are trying too much to be PCs which is why gaming has gone down this gen (Wii will sell very well but it's not really a console like the Xbox/PS2). Then you have the DLC milking, which gives developers an incentive to release a game halfway done and charge you for it. And yet we have to pay $60 for these games. For 3 hours of gameplay and an online mode. Yeah, okay.

And about 80% of games have been delayed. This gen should really just end very soon. Hopefully Xbox 3 and PS4 will be better.

I don't have a problem with shooters (indeed, Call of Duty series is one of my favorite series of all time) but it needs more diversity. This is why the 360 and PS3 are failing commercially. MS is starting to realize this and are drastically trying to change their image, but they just don't get it. I lol'd when I saw Gears of War and Left 4 Dead ads by those silly Mii's on Xbox Live. Platformers, fighters, JRPGs, Action Adventure games are sorely missing this generation, don't you think?

After this year I wouldn't say this gen is bad, it's problem is that the flow of games has been lackluster compared to last one.

Another ignorant PC bashing post from Giovela. I just can't understand why someone utterly despises PCs. There are extreme fanboys on all sides, but you take a personal vendetta on PCs. I'm curious as to why.

Kinda funny how those expansion packs have more content and last longer than full PC games, how 1 MMO has 12 million subscribers, and how those strategy games are being enjoyed by people everywhere, even on consoles. 

And yes, in addition to getting superior multiplats, there are numerous RPGs, FPSes, Sims, and Racers that you don't seen on consoles that are already released or going to be out next year. 

So yeah, you just described not even half of PC gaming. 

I can't seem to find any games this gen with some depth. -Master_St3ve-

While you are at it don't check games such as Bioshock, Portal, TF2, Fallout 3 Dystopian-X

I thoroughly whole heartedly agree with this thread.  This generation is complete suckage compared to all the last ones.  Just a total lack of variety, and quality. Every genre besides Shooters is not that well developed.  This generation as a whole has made me kind of a lesser gamer, I don't care as much for games as I used to solely because of this generation being so crap.  I mean seriously. Is this all people want. A constant flow of generic 5 hour shooters.  It's not funny.

On the 360 you have a lot of good games you cant play (KUF or Strangers Wrath for example) On the PS3 you dont have BC at all unless you have a launch PS3

This gen definitely has nothing on last gen depending on what a gamers favorite genres are. I'm a huge JRPG fan and it's my primary genre and it's failing horribly. TOV and ES are great and LO is decent but that's it. Fighters have been going downhill for awhile. Platformers have SMG and LBP. Racing games are in good supply. Shooter and WRPG fans though are the ones having the time of their lives in this generation of gaming.Flamestos

The platformer genre is pretty big

Wario Land Shake is very very good, Super Paper Mario is a good half platformer (and a good half RPG)... De Blob is absolutely gorgeous and you also have those quircky japanese Platformers like Klonoa.. (mushroom man and KORE looks interesting as well)

You mean the hardcore fans that told them that they are kiddy last gen and switched to PS2 and Xbox.. uh.. i think Nintendo never cared about them anyways.. Nintendo fanboys are very happy with the Wii.. especially since it gets a lot more thirdparty support then the GC

And i think this.. only more Zelda, Mario, Metroid crap was the main criticism NIntendo got on the GC.. now they bring something fresh and new and they get people like you that moan because they dont do the old stuff... tell you what.. we already had zelda, mario and Metroid on the Wii.. go and check them out.. its not like the GC had Mario, Zelda and metroid every year.. and the conduit is from a small developer that did Ben10games.. its about the same caliber as Geist on the GC.. i never see people hyping it up.. but its sure a nice thing to see such small devs trying to do original IPs.. dont think that would have happened on the 360 that you praise that high..

Agreed! they have both kept things pretty interesting I believe. I even think the Wii has done some pretty cool things, heck when we have games like GeOw2 or Uncharted or COD4, Resistance 2, RockBand 1 & 2, Assasins Creed, and many many more I am just not willing to type. I think if you are truly not happy with this gen than perhaps you just are not happy as a gamer any longer. I am not saying this to insult anyone I am just pointing out perhaps you do not love this hobby any longer. I cannot afford to buy all of the games I want this year so I am very much having the opposite feeling as concerned to gamings current state.

Your comments about the first XBOX are so absurd I cannot believe you actually hit the submit button. I have to say the first XBOX may have been one of the best consoles I have personally ever enjoyed and I have had pretty much all of them. The intro of XBOX Live alone pretty much whooped the competition in mine and my friends eyes. I still remember 8 hour Mechassault online marathons or Rallisport 1 splitscreen we would all play for hours the first Rainbow six game online which was great. The feeling I had the first time we brought down a building online in mechassault was something I had never forgotten. I had down some PC online gamer prior but it was nowhere as interesting or streamlined as Live was I knew nothing was gonna be the same after that and I was right.
