I sorry, I really don't think Nintendo had graphic whores in mind when developing the Wii. This is a console that is trying to get the family and girlfriend/wife interested in gaming, and to make it fun.

Personally, I am a graphic whore and have no interest in buy the Wii yet. But after hearing from people the use the Wii, I have to say I am getting interested.

Video games are for entertainment, and if the Wii keeps you entertained, then it is an success.

As for the original question of being next-gen, if your a graphics whore, of course not. But if you look at it from an interactive aspect, of course it is next gen.

Don't think for one second that the XBox 720 or PS4 will not incorperate the Wii controller, they will.

AgentVX

God forbid. Or if they do at least they stay on par with what should be considered acceptable next-gen graphics and allow the gamers to choose if they want a gimmicky controller or not.

I noticed a trend.

Yeah, the Wii graphics are quite lacking compared to the other new consoles, fact. This will be, like, significant in the future or something.

Man, I'm glad the Wii changes to a broader audience. I hope this 'hardcore' crap will shrivel down like tabletop gaming did so we can move on to other things.

[QUOTE="mvent2"]To elaborate, those games don't use the Wii's capability's to the fullest. I could pull up PD0 screens and say the 360 is an Xbox 1.5. But then a lemming will bring up Gears. Why? Because Gears fully utilises the 360 whereas PD0 doesn't. Just like how no game made so far maxes out the Wii.spyrosklaou
there isn't anything to max out in the Wii...

What's it like to be ignorant? I'm really interested.

If you want gimmiky, look at the sixaxis, that is a load of crap. From what I've heard (because I have no $600 sitting around to be spent): 1. Light as a feather, so it is akward to hold 2. Cruddy triggers 3. Tact on motion detection (copy cats!) 4. Since it is Sony, it will probably blow up in your hands.

Have you even played the Wii yet?Virtual_Space1
I have, and the games that were released thus far have been...well, they don't meet expectations. Gameplay was very unspectaular, but my girl and I love Raving Rabbids, (and because someone recommended it) Monkey Balls. In fact, because people are so used to contrllers, the learning curve for the Wii is a bit higher. But for people wo dont usually play games, it should be a breeze. I have a problem with the games, because when playing them, I felt that not only would it have been easier to control on the console, it would have worked out better. Monkey Ball series, specifically, was designed around a standard controller, and now its made to fit with the Wii controller. Devs need to create new IPs designing te WHOLE game around the new controls. Until games actually take advantage of the Wii, the Wii is the WORST buy this holiday season. With three games worth buying: Zelda, Raving Rabbids (AWESOME AWESOME game), and Monkey Ball. 2 of those would have NEVER got any recognition last gen...but they did because of the lack of quality titles.

Not a great remark. The gamecube wouldn't attract new customers with it's capabilites, it'd be missing out on Wii's other features that's catered to the mainstream user. I won't list the features because that's been done to death. Seek a Wii site, since yer so freaking interested in pointing out the graphical shortcomings. Why the difference with the other consoles, and why not just upgrade their machine into a powerful beast? What's the point? 2 are already competing for the same group of gamers. Adding a third super machine wouldn't make sense. 3 consoles fighting over a little group. NIntendo wants money, not lose it. They seek it in the new gamer. Also being business-asses, they kept the machine as easy for the company as possible, while adding the Wii-mote that might make new gamers. The end result is that the other 2 consoles will be cannibalizing eachother for the established group of hardcore gamers while Wii welcomes any person. We just have to see if this actually works out.

The idea of the wiimote is great, but these graphics are just a joke for $250.

You make sense to me, I will not argue that point.  But obviously nerdy gamers that post on a gamers forum, including myself, are going to be the most part die hard gamers.

My dad still plays games on an old 800mhz computer and has fun.  The reason why I say this, is even if the graphics don't meet 360/PS3 standards, they still look good enough to get the casual gamers the graphics they need.  And most casual gamers just want fun, and if they can get it with the wiimote, all power to them.  I am sure casual gamers care little for side by side graphic comparisions of how their game rates, or really would be exposed to side by side graphic comparisions.  Causual gamers don't hunt on the internet for ratings of games, they hunt in Wal Mart waiting for the next version of Zelda.

And personally, I would rather play a game thats fun to play then a game that's not fun to play but has killer graphics.  But as I said, I have a 360 and love it on my HD monitor, but have to admitt that the Wii with it's lack luster graphics does look fun to play.

With fighting games you can have the joystick to move and the A or B buttons to fight, like any other fighter. You also have the D-pad, Z, and C buttons. If you want to get risky though, the + or -, but that's a stretch. The wii is like the DS, you don't have to incorperate the touch-pad into everything, but devs love to do it anyway.

Hold on folks, to clarify, they will have a feature that can utilize an optional controller like the Wii remote and can easily incorporate a 2nd analog stick.

Motion control is a very logical step for future consoles.  All games might not use it, but to say they won't have it doesn't make any sense.  This (Wii Remote) is obviously tring to capture a new experience to gaming consoles, and also capture people who don't usually play video games, it would be finacially suicide not to tap into that market next gen.

This is not next-gen.

It is a collection of exceptionally poor screenshots from rushed ports. Please do not use the lowest common denominator to represent a system, it is like using Hitler as an envoy for humanity.

This is going to be the last time I post in a wii graphix are bad, "posts bad pic here" thread. Its gone over the top, once a day I could manage with but seriously there are like over 20 of these threads a day. Find another area to bash so there is actually a reason to argue.

Come on, I know you can try harder :P (and that last sentence is not an excuse to say the overused statement, "the wii is not worth the effort"

LOL. Yeah I understand that whole "we're not in it for the graphics" thing Wii-supporters have goin on. But at some point you just have to recognize that crap is crap. That's just garbage and I think it's sad that Nintendo is letting developers take advantage of its consumers like that.

Then the consumer is a moron if they let the developers take advantage of them like that. You people whine and cry the GameCube needs more third party support. Nintendo gets more third party developers and you still whine and cry that the first games for Wii don't look so hot. Madden 07 for the Wii looks like a slightly upgraded PS2 game and is STILL more fun than all the other console versions (I've played the PS2, Wii, and 360 versions). Zelda is an amazing gameplay experience and has some really beautiful lighting effects from lava, the sun, etc. Red Steel doesn't have amazing graphics at all but again impresses with lighting effects and has amazing sound quality (excluding the voice acting, yuck!). And by the way, that Far Cry screen has been scaled down by the TC.

Wow Nintendo,WTF!! were you thinking when you decided to make the Wii?The Wii-mote sounds innovattive and all that but you could have tried a bit harder with the hardware. And to think you the only console maker who's actually making a profit on every console you sell. i'm sorry but I'm a graphics whore,I'll get my PC a nice new graphics instead of a Wii I think. And for all of you who say graphics dont matter go and play Gears of War on a hi def tv,the graphics play a big part in making the game immersive and setting the atmosphere.

I don't understand how it is being a graphics whore. I mean seriously, since there are awfully many of those here, why can't you answer my little question.

How is it to know that you miss out a great game like Zelda TP because it has "not-up-to-par" graphics?

Don't you feel kinda stupid when missing such great titles, or are you so blinded by fanboyism that you don't think any game on the Wii is fun?

If it really was NextGen, it would have beautiful graphics and more than just a unique controller. I won't even call that controller an innovation until it's been out for a while.

WHY COULDNT NINTENDO DO BOTH? :o

oh wait cuz all they care is making the same crap console over and over and slap one new thing and call it innovation,as long as they sell off brand name. :?

Wow Nintendo,WTF!! were you thinking when you decided to make the Wii?The Wii-mote sounds innovattive and all that but you could have tried a bit harder with the hardware. And to think you the only console maker who's actually making a profit on every console you sell. i'm sorry but I'm a graphics whore,I'll get my PC a nice new graphics instead of a Wii I think. And for all of you who say graphics dont matter go and play Gears of War on a hi def tv,the graphics play a big part in making the game immersive and setting the atmosphere.gsx1100

Agreed! the graphics did really make Gears of war because without them you would realise what a boring and repetitive game this is much quicker!

I own and play Gears of War on a HDTV and after the second checkpoint the whole graphics thing sort of wears off. The Wii on the other hand is about as much fun as one can have while playing videogames gasp even without the UBER graphics!

That first pic is a real Wii game!? looks like a racer from the mid 90'sHarbadakus

it is a port of a three year old japan only cube racing game.  why ubisoft dug it up and put it out is beyond me.  other than to cash in on some release hype money.

While everyone is arguing over graphics, what about Nintendo being the only one to bring somethig new to the table with the Wiimote. Microsoft kinda did with the new Live. Sony is just the same old same old, with a whack sixaxis controller they ripped off of Nintendo. I own a PS3 and a 360 and will be selling the PS3 on Ebay for a Nintendo Wii. I am in no way impressed by the PS3 or its online or its controller or its PS2.5 graphics. Wii60 for me.

[QUOTE="Nameless3"]Let's see, the wii is after last gen, so it would be considered "next" gen._AsasN_
If it really was NextGen, it would have beautiful graphics and more than just a unique controller. I won't even call that controller an innovation until it's been out for a while.

And what makes graphics "beautiful" exactly? And don't say something stupid like "it has to be next gen".

I REALLY LOVE HOW SHEEP DAMAGE control,no its not teh next gen its he NEW gen, graphics dont make the game, teh gameplay makes the game, teh innovation, but ................

WHY COULDNT NINTENDO DO BOTH? :o

oh wait cuz all they care is making the same crap console over and over and slap one new thing and call it innovation,as long as they sell off brand name. :?TheWiikestLink
They wanted to make a console that could be sold at a cheap price. Therefore they used weaker hardware,(Around Xbox level) so they can make a profit, after all, that is the point of a company. Sound like a sound business decision to me.

just take a look at RE4 for the gamecube. nintendo is capable of putting out a fantastic looking game if they want to. now with the wii there are new controls and stuff to get used to and having less graphically can't mean that the game will not be fun to play. it's nice to sit there and watch a graphically inspired movie, but last time i checked, video games were meant to be played and have fun, no matter what system you have.

picture 1 is GT Pro. Which is a port of a japanese Gamecube game.
picture 2 Call of Duty 3 (dunno what that is)
picture 3 is that agent game, which was a port from PS2, right?
picture 4 is Far Cry (dunno what it is) which is a port of an old game, right?

I doubt any of these games was made "next-gen" they are all ports from "last-gen", dunno about Call of Duty 3, have no clue what it is. But is it not on the PS2?

Daytona looked better then that. I would say early 90's

In another thread i told people not to bash the Wii's graphics but i can't help myself :(

Look at the daw in the divider stripes..LOL! Seriously we all know the Wii is capable of much more than this **** Anyone remember Test Drive Le Mans for Dreamcast? That game was racing perfection! The graphics easily held up against anything Polyphony Digital has released to date, nott o mention the gameplay! (check the score). That game was overpushing the Dreamcast hardware with over 5 million polygons with all effects turned on. The Gamecube can render at least 3 to 4 times that amount adn the Wii probably a little more. I mean this Wii racing game (dont even know the name) looks 2 x worse than Auto Modellista...whcih means the developers were either lazy or it was rushed..OR BOTH!
