  Mistake?  They outsold both competitors and at a profit gain on top of that from the system alone..  That is the problem with gaming now a days.. Just because a console is more powerful doesn't make it better..  This is why I think there is going to be a gaming crash coming soon.. Because people like you want to see the same sh!t in a new shiny wrapping paper.. This was basically Killzone 4 in a nutshell..  While many other gamers are finding it harder and harder to justify to buy a $60 game that is going to offer the same gameplay they have been playing for years now.

Yeah, it's strange.

It's the most expensive Nintendo system to date, yet it's selling at a loss and doesn't even manage to *significantly* outperform the current-gen systems.

Either that's a sign Nintendo shouldn't make home consoles anymore or they made some big mistakes during the planning stages.

I mean, there was almost no hype for the thing before it got released.

Usually people hype new consoles atleast prior to their release but the WiiU was only hyped by some Nintendo fans. (and even they - or we - were skeptical about it)

I'm not even sure what Nintendo is trying to achieve these days...

1. It doesn't cost them that much to put it in the console. Its likely closer to $40 per GPU

2. You're an idiot if you're trying to maniuplate this to make Nintendo look cheap. You realize there is  SO MUCH MORE that goes into making a console that needs to be profitable after a few months?

3. They're selling the Wii U at about a $10 loss per Basic Set, not sure about Deluxe. So you can't really call them "cheap" in this regard since, well they're losing money on it.

4. Stop acting like companies are bad to sell consoles at a profit. Sony/MS should do this. Look at the Vita. The idea is they lose money on hardware and make it back on software but if you're not selling software than you aren't making ANY money. If everyone charged at least a small profit per console we'd have more $ going into game development, job creation, etc.

5. If anything you should be asking whether the Wii U Game Pad is worth it since it costs around $80 to make.

I find your knock against the "it doesn't play blu rays" comical since you're trying to make it seem like Nintendo is cheap yet you're not paying attention to the fact that the Wii U uses a properitary disc drive/format that probably costs millions and millions of dollars. So if anything this disc drive cost them MORE than if they simply went with Blu-Ray but instead it offers them better protection against piracy.

I'm not even sure what Nintendo is trying to achieve these days...
