This is the reason why I buy Japanese consoles and leave American created games to PC, games like IC) Mario Galaxy and MGS4 are all great because of the effort thats put forward by these proven studios. Comment!!!

True, they do seem to be more atmospheric and generally more polished.

I think commercialism pervades Western game development, and I suppose in the end it probably should, whereas Japanese games appear to elicit more pride from their creators. You're right; they don't release buggy or unpolished games nearly as often. The other thing is, the Eastern gaming tradition simply has a different appeal to a different crowd. You see it in their art, their narratives, and their generally crappy in a charming way translations. I prefer Eastern developed games; but I think it's a cultural thing.

i love japanese games (is it because im asian?). western games are always about violence, fps, tps, blood, gore. i mean, where can you see a game like Katamari, Mario Galaxy, Metal Gear? eastern games always want to be photorealistic, physics-based, sci-fi, futuristic, graphics whore, etc. i mean, japanese games combine fantasy/mafic or whatever with graphics, but somehow western games always go with reality when it comes to graphics. also, we all know that japanese studios and developers are not (and i use the term loosely) 'restricted' by their publishers. i just can't picture EA telling their developer studios to make a game that has a great concept and sales isn't that important. lmao.

Splinter Cell comparison to MGS is pretty dubious. Isn't Splinter Cell all about realism? I think you're thinking narrowly in terms of analogous or similar gameplay.

Give me a RTS or FPS over a Japanese game any day. But opinions vary. These types of games are just too weird for me.

Kameo is no where near as atmospheric as Japanese games (and yeah i know let the screenshots begin but that's the truth. The other games, though still not as atmospheric, were under Japanese surveillance so i don't think they count. Personally i would say japanese games are more atmospheric. Because American games tend to target only 4 styles for the most part: Futuristic Sci-fi, medieval wats, agents (FBI and stuff like that), And modern wars. Of course you do have games like GTA which felt pretty atmospherical to me (and i can't believe i'm saying that), But still, if you're not a fan of the four types stated above, well.... tough luck i guess :P

Fallout 3 and STALKER are two of the most atmospheric games i ever played. No japanese game really beats them for me. And just because a game is Futuristic/Sci-Fi doesnt make it any less atmospheric.

i'm telling you the game had japanese influence. Sony may not have gone deep with the development itself, but i'm pretty sure that the game would have turned out differently if it was outside of sony. That's my bet at least.

exactly! It's all opinion! I never said anything about them being bad games, in fact from the ones i've played they are pretty excellent. But in terms of atmosphere i'm just attracted to the Japanese more. Honestly what the hell is so wrong in what i'm saying that some people got out of their way to bash me?

exactly! It's all opinion! I never said anything about them being bad games, in fact from the ones i've played they are pretty excellent. But in terms of atmosphere i'm just attracted to the Japanese more. Honestly what the hell is so wrong in what i'm saying that some people got out of their way to bash me?

It's that Evanescene sig, bro. I'm tellin ya.

[QUOTE="nintendo-4life"] Never played it :P (I know you want to hit me right now :P). But c'mon can you really think these games are on the same level as: F.E.A.R (just played the demo btw :P) Fatal frame Super mario galaxy ICO triology Final fantasy MGS Zelda etc. I can't speak for Doom, but i can speak for the other games you mentioned and i think it's a "no".nintendo-4life

yes, yes i can, in fact out of that list of yours, fatal frame is the only one that could give DOOM 3 a run for it's money

and Kameo is more atmospheric then Final Fantasy or MGS if you ask me

[QUOTE="roddollente"] i'll give you this one [QUOTE="roddollente"] Mario Galaxybingbaocao

Kameo, Jak and Dexter, Ratchet and Clank, Banjo Kazooie
Metal Gear?roddollente
Splinter Cell, Thief

can you give me a japanese game like the sims, sim city or spore?

The only thing Metal Gear games have in common with Splinter Cell is the word "stealth". Even then, the stealth is pretty different.

Please do not put Kameo and the new Banjo Kazooie in the same space as Ratchet, Jak and Mario. Those feeble Rare efforts are nowhere near up to there quality, and are testament to how far down the tubes that Rare has gone since it's N64 heyday. And please, Splinter Cell being compared to MGS is an insult to MGS and Mr Hideo Kojima. Splinter Cell is a bottom burp of a game compared to MGS. And without MGS, Youbesoft would not have had the idea to try and copy, and mess up.

ratchet and clank: quest for booty scored lower then Banjo and Kameo. I also think that Kameo is one of the best games i'v played this generation (haven't played banjo yet)

You make it sound like these 360 games are vastly inferior, when they're not.

They are great games and almost on par to each other.

True, they do seem to be more atmospheric and generally more polished.

bingbaocao
No im saying this! Thanks you good sir!

i can agree with more polished (although not as much as i did last gen) but atmospheric? I can't really agree with that

You can't agree with anything like this topic because all you can do is play Bungie's shooters for the next 2 years.

I don't care what Ratchet scored here, the game is a gem and scored well almost everywhere else (I believe around 90% on metacritic), so GS's score was ridiculous and proves this site is not the pinnacle of gaming scores. Ratchet should have scored a high 8 to 9 here, and after finishing Kameo (under some sufference towards the end), I would say the game is a 7-7.5 max, as it had awesome graphics, but stiff, limited controls and gameplay. I played Banjo at a game store booth and it was tediously boring, and not a poo stain compared to original. PDZ getting a 9 is testament to GS's former scoring.....as GS's score puts it up with the calibre of Halo and Killzone 2........when in reality the game is more around Haze's quality. And Splinter Cell is the perfect example of a western developer trying to copy a Jpn developers concept, by trying to make the graphics and game play too realistic, but ruining it in the process because of the slowness and boringness of the gameplay. MGS and it's developers just know how to balance realism with fun. And SpinoRap, I do not think certain 360 games are inferior....in fact, I love Dead Rising (oops Japanese developer), ok, I love Left 4 Dead, GeOW and a few select others.... So the machine has good games (other wise I wouldn't have one) but they are really only at the top of there game when it comes to shooters, which are heavily Western developed games.
