[QUOTE="Slimmin360"][QUOTE="Mario_Eater"]There wasn't any need to start over again. On my first play through (PC version) I got caught whilst trying to sneak behind loredo's house, but I could still beat the Kayran... lightleggy
I haven't started over yet, if you know a way around this, then by all means please tell me and i'll do it, and then i'll retract and delete my whole statement in this thread.

The thing is you dont need the trap to beat the kayran, it's just an extra weapon, the only thing that i'd say is necessary is the osmurk (was that the name?) potion, the one to make you inmune to the kayran's potion, and even if you dont get it you can still beat him, it's just an advantage. they are obviously not going to make a game where you have to start over for one minor mistake.

That's what I thought too.

Because Skyrim is well-known for having no bugs or glitches.

Let me start my saying i picked up the Witcher 2 for 360 and i absolutely love it, story, graphics, gameplay, combat, spells...everything.

However there is a flaw in the game, i was up to the part where, while in the village i must gather what i need for the Yrden trap to fight against the Kayran.

Well for those who know the game, i collected everything i needed except the iron frame for the trap, so i proceeded to sneak around the back of Loredo's house to the sealed off area where the iron frame is kept, i was able to get passed one guard but was seen by the other.

Then the game goes into a cut scene with Loredo, who infact asked me to kill the kayran so i thought i would either be given the iron frame i needed or be able to kill it without it, but no such luck with either thought, infact the indecent proposal quest was ended and i was not able to go back and get the iron frame from the chest.

By the time i realized i absolutely needed it to defeat the kayran and proceed with the game, i had already completed 3 more quests.

I only had 6 save files 3 auto saves and 3 of my own, and none of them went as far back as before the indecent proposal quest or before the cutscene with Loredo.

I'm now forced to start the game over after nearly 9 hours of gameplay put in thus far, or i will be stuck in this seaside village for good.

In Skyrim this doesn't happen, oh you can fail a quest but you will always be able to continue on in the game and finish countless other quests, and in my mind thats a true open world rpg.

Now fanboys will probably blame me and my lack of game saves, but c'mon i had 6 saves and it still left me no choice but to start the game over, ok i know the choices effect the way game plays out, but it's not supposed to hinder your progress, thats where they should've taken a lesson from Skyrim.

I could have as many saves as I wanted on PC so sucks to have it on 360 I guess.

You don't need the Kayran trap to beat the Kayran, it's just a extra advantage. You can beat it with Yrden sign, sword swings and lots of dodge rolling.

Ok i contacted my brother n' law who is also playing the game on 360 and he showed me how to defeat the Kayran by changing to the Yrden sign, problem solved, i'm back to progressing nicely. Now i'm on Aeiridn and searching for ingredients to heal the poisoned Sakira......i'm lovin' the Witcher once again.

have fun!!!! also IMO you made the right choice on which faction to follow. :D the main dude involved is kind of a dick, but everybody else is so awesome as to make it worth it (kind of the opposite of the other faction, imo)

I don't get how you could think it's unbeatable without the Kayran trap. First thing you're told when the boss fight starts is "trap it with the Yrden!". Boss isn't even hard anymore after they toned it down in EE.

Well Skyrim is pretty hard to top. Can't fault Witcher 2 for that. I'm sure it's a fine game, even though I trolled on it a few times. All in good fun :)

This. Using the Kayran trap makes the fight easier but it's still possible to beat the Kayran without the trap. I've beaten the game 3 times and only used the trap on my 3rd playthrough. You don't need it. Just because you screwed up a quest and didn't bother trying to continue anyways doesn't make the game bad. It just makes you look like an idiot.

Didn't read TC's post but I don't need much convincing, I got bored with Witcher 2 quite early, just another hyped former PC exclusive ported to consoles like Crysis, seemingly over-hyped just because hermits wanted something to gloat about having that console gamers didn't, mostly praised over claims of graphic superiority, gameplay doesn't match up IMO, spin doctors have found a way to say a mediocre inventory and combat system is "mature", the execution of the story though is pretty good but about the only thing keeping it from being better is the depth of its own universe that I'm still quite unfamiliar with, though I'm hoping that if I try playing it again that that depth becomes a plus. Even though I liked it more, Skyrim isn't without its flaws. I found the leveling to be okay and very accessible as well as the combat, the world is large and fantastic looking, however I found the main quest and side quests and lack of organized guilds to be a damper on things overall, in some ways I prefer Oblivion's over Skyrim, the auto-quest generation feature in Skyrim makes things feel very repetitive and undeveloped, it makes Oblivion's quests look much more thought out.

i effed up a quest therefore Skyrim > Witcher.

Slimmin360
Ok i effed up a quest, so that means i should have to flush 9 hours of gameplay down the toilet because i screwed up one quest ? How does that equate to a good game ?

So you spend 40 years of your life as a good citizen, and then you unintentionally commit manslaughter. What do? FACE THE CONSEQUENCES. Love it how le' consolite cannot fathom game changing consequences for his actions and must resort to omfgwtfbbqi_dung00feddisgaymeizbrokenz on le' forums.

I am trying to figure out how one game is more "free" than another.. Skyrim you can most certainly move around in most directions.. But the quests the radical majority of the time have one solution to, and no meaningful decision making whether most of the time.. The only "open ended" rpg I have seen as of late with some real choice it felt like was Fallout New Vegas..

I hit Stockpile Thomas and Blacksmith Boldwin in Demons Souls. Let's just say I wasted more than 9 hours and had to start over. Clearly this is a flaw in the game!

The average herperderper thinks freedom only means geographical exploration.
