Thoughts: The Best Game I Have Ever Played Is...

I have thought about this a lot since it's release. I have been extremely happy with some many game releases, but no game has ever done what this game did for me.  

Upon beating this game you find yourself with a vast memory of moments and set pieces that dwarf things found in other games. There are so many memorable shootouts, combat situations, cutscenes, easter eggs, boss fights and emotional powerhouses.

On a more technical note, the game looks absolutely incredible. It has one of the best soundtracks - ever. And has some  of the crispest and clearest weapon sounds around. 

This game is a masterpiece, and the best game I have ever played in all my years of gaming.  

MGS4 was probably the lowest point of gaming for me. It just wasn't fun and the story didn't hook me. Very boring. The best game ever made is Deus Ex or Planescape Torment.

I'm right there with you man. Words can't describe the emotional roller-coaster I went through while playing MGS4....I couldn't put the controller down but at the same time I didn't want it to end....such a weird dilemma.

Chrono Trigger or Earthbound for me, I beat those games so many times, I just couldn't get enough.

My thoughts : if the game is similiar to its earlier iterations, then  yawn....zzz.....

I don't really have knowledge of it, actually. However, Gears of War is an earnestly outstanding action title.

Hard to say what the best game I've ever played.

Probably Morrowind even though I didn't even play it on the PC - I played in on the Xbox. :?

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask is close up there along with KOTOR.

My favorite game this gen so far is probably Fallout 3. Even though I'm not very far, it's simply fantastic and I really love the combat. I can't wait fo some more mods.

I have different opinions. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots isn't even the most excellent game on PlayStation 3, if you ask me.

Exactly! I'll admit, sometimes I can take it off the deepend, but honestly, I just didn't enjoy the game. Yes, it scored very well -- yes, it's seen as one of the best -- but none of this will make me enjoy it, because it's just not for me. That's just how it is.

My favorite game is Metal Gear solid 3: subsistence.....memorable online experience, new camera introduced mgs series in a whole different way, controls were solid ( no pun intended), graphics were phenomenal, and the story was breathtaking. It also came with metal gear and metal gear 2: solid snake for the MSX on the 2nd disc. With mini-games and boss battle modes.

Not sure what my favorite game "EVER" is, but I know isn't MGS4! I can see why people like it, but it was one of only 3 games I sold shortly after getting it this gen. I would say this gen my favorite games have been Uncharted, followed by Gears by a hair. I played through both those games more than any others before it.

Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't for everyone and I can understand if and why the game has its fair share of detractors. I for one think its  one of the best games of all time but thats just my opinion. I agree with everything TC said from the visuals, the soundtrack, the storyline to the voice acting and gameplay everything was just superb.

while i do love planescape torment and am currently replaying it there are no "emotional" moments in that game like there are in MGS4. in fact, there are few, and not one is as intense as some Kojima achieved in he's masterpiece. that said, the game is one of the best ever made, and is in my top 20 best games of all time, along with MGS4, Xenogears, and many others. Can't really order those games, they are all amazing.

Indeed. MGS4 is on another level for me, it truly represents the evolution of gaming storytelling. The gameplay is incredibly deep and varied, and the presentation is unparalleled.

Bioshock is actually on my psn friendlist and recomended resistance 1 to me great game that is.

I agree that Planescape: Torment was a brilliant game, never really played Deus Ex though.  I have to say though, MGS4 was an amazing game for me, and I only very recently went through MGS1 and MGS2.  I also played through on the Big Boss Hard though, with the goal of not killing any enemies, so maybe that made the gameplay more interesting for me?  I can see how if you just shoot your way through the game it could get stale.

Question though -- do you at least consider MGS4 a well-made game, though one that is perhaps not suited to your particular tastes?

I agree that Planescape: Torment was a brilliant game, never really played Deus Ex though. I have to say though, MGS4 was an amazing game for me, and I only very recently went through MGS1 and MGS2. I played stealth all the way through. And I typically like stealth games, but this one just didn't do it for me. Thief is one of my favorite games.

And yes, I understand it is a well made game, but really, I'd rather have something I could've got into. But hey, every game isn't for everyone.
