Time for the "VR is dead" and "VR is a fad" people to admit they were wrong about everything.

If nobody cares about VR like you naysayers said, why did it leap right over every traditional console and 2D game, if even briefly? How did it get in the Top 5 and not be, instead, #32 or #57 or #163 on the list?

I will be back in 24 hours. I expect many sincere, weighty apologies in my Inbox tomorrow. Good day, sir.

I always smirk when I still see someone saying it's a fad in 2020. If we look back at any ACTUAL fad like 3DTVs, we can see the decline started as soon as 2-3 years in, whereas VR is almost 5 years in now with bigger investment and sales than ever.

People just aren't aware that technologies take at least a decade to go mainstream, so when something doesn't happen overnight, they sound the alarm bells, and people saying it was a fad from the very beginning never had any idea in the kind of progress VR would make or what it truly does to games and life in general.

Momentary publicity? Whatever it was, it wasn't enough to keep either SKU in the Top 100.

Ho hee ho. When the caveman grunts at the civilized man, he thinks him worse than himself.

Maybe time to get out of your bubble because it's almost like you're in your own virtual reality.

Funny because i'm not the one who thinks it will be mainstream, its niche, i mean if Sony can only sell 5 million as hot as they have been all gen and withl multiple fire sales on it, then its destined to be forever niche, and there's nothing wrong with that, its just the fanaticals who think its the best thing since sliced bread are yelling it from the rooftops, thankfully not many care lol.

You do you and keep up the good fight there buddy, maybe in 50yrs you will get there lol.

50 years? Nah. If you've seen my thread I posted today on here, you'd see the progress is exponentially faster than you believe.

Sony sold 5 million PSVR units because it's a 1st gen headset. You might as well say that consoles will always be niche because the 1st generation sold in the low millions.

You just don't make any sense; locking something into a permanent niche because of reasons surrounding the 1st generation is laughably archaic.

@darthbuzzard: You're literally babbling now, but i've dealt with VR crazies for the last few years, i know your shtick, it will go mainstream be a massive seller, just you wait, and all that jazz. I get it you're passionate about it, but you come across as nutjobs. You need to tone it done.

VR's kewl, but I worry when it becomes more popular it will automatically get all the bullshit flatscreen games have integrated.

Currently most games are tight 2-7 hour experiences, you buy the game, you play the game, with generally reasonable price attached.

Ubisoft and EA taking more of an active interest is a double edges sword, obviously get more much needed software support, but these companies are inherently cunts.

VR is really the only thing that excites me for the future of gaming there's only so much you can do with flatscreen gaming all of the big jumps has happen already from 2-D to 3-D and SD to HD. But yes flatscreen gaming is of course better then the majority of VR games for now. But once the tech feels as real as a dream there will be no need to go back when you are in full dive VR.

VR is awesome. Anyone that says otherwise either gets sick from it (which is fair), or hates on it because they either can't have it or reject it on principle (not fair).

Haters gon' hate, though.

Yeah right now VR is still a wild frontier, with lots of experimentation. Not everything is good, but a lot of it is, and when done well you are privelage to some of the best gaming moments I have ever experienced in my 25+ years of gaming, and that is saying a lot.

But I worry when that frontier is "civilized" by so-called "AAA" game publishers. As you said, it is a double-edged sword; nice to have VR taken seriously...but at what cost?

Last thing I want is to interact with a 3D lootbox with my controllers...that's actually kind of a nightmare, tbh.

Point me to a single tech platform in the last 100 years that took off in 5 years. I'll wait.

And no, answers like 'NES' or 'iPhone' do not count because those are several generations into the underlying platform.

I go off consumer markets, so I'll give him that one. The first consumer radios appeared in the early 1920s and it went mainstream by the end of the decade. It was a one-time unfathomable thing that hasn't happened since anyway.

I was referring solely to the people with opinions on it. But you're right, it hasn't really taken off all that much.

There is definitely a large percentage that outnumbers both the fans and detractors (I am assuming) that either doesn't care or isn't really all that aware of it.

Like I have said for the past few years, it just isn't there yet. Give it 10 years. I don't think it's a fad, it just hasn't been for me.. It isn't what I consider a good experience yet. I'm sure it will be a mainstay of the porn industry soon enough though..

Yup. 100 years ago radio was the craze. People though it was amazing technology. That's still just in living memory.

The tech we're going to see over the next 20 years is going to make VR look quaint. That said, love me some Alyx.

The 90s consumer VR market lasted a couple of years and was generated by small companies and startups. There was no Nintendo equivalent company doing consumer VR back then, and certainly no Apple/Facebook equivalent.

In truth, developers only learned how to develop for VR in recent years as basically all 90s consumer VR games were just badly done ports like Wolfenstein.

Lets just say it's ingenious to think VR isn't a fad, because so many people do even though they are wrong.

If you can see an important technology coming to fruition, it's because you were smart enough to see it coming when the rest of the world couldn't. The same thing happened for phones, PCs, TVs which were all thought to be fads.

I'm excited for psvr 2. If the quest 2 comes with 6 gigs of ram, a snapdragon processor, a battery, and 64 gigs of storage for $300. I wonder what Sony is gonna be able to offer for that same price. I just hope that they allow you to use it with pc.

Ingenious nah, delusional yep lol.

Cool. So what are your predictions for the next 5 years if you're so confident?

Will VR grow or will it decline? Will it get more AAAs or will it get none after Alyx?

Most ingenious devices or people are mocked.

ingenious people? TC has a homer simpson avatar and his handle is "what a failure" one of the dumbest posters on the internet.

this is your ingenious VR supporters? lol

Ingenious nah, delusional yep lol.

In 5yrs i predict that you will have a new username, and be here saying just you wait in another 5yrs it will be mainstream lol.

Talk about dodging the question. Forget about me. Where will VR be in 5 years?

Where's the evidence for it being a fad? Please do tell.
