Jokes based on stereotypes of race and sex are usually funny because there's some comedic truth to them. Black comedians make fun of black people not being punctual, enjoying fried chicken, smoking menthol cigarettes, etc. They poke fun at white people for being corny, having no rhythm, not seasoning their food etc and its fine 99.999% of the time. I can go on and on with other races and stereotypes. This was NEVER a problem until a few years ago. Again, being offended has become an identity. And humans being as tribal as they are, will throw out any and all nuance in order to be part of a team. And here we are.
And how are jokes "harmful?" They weren't "harmful" before 2016... And this term "punching down" is bullshit, because these comedians, and these jokes don't come from a place of superiority. If they are punching, it's straight ahead from a place of equality. Everybody should be able to get these jokes... We should all be able to laugh at ourselves, and each other equally. All the great comedians made jokes that covered they entire spectrum of race, religion and sexual orientation. And today, if Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Richard Prior, Robin Williams etc were out making comedy, they would all be "canceled."
Feeling "disrespected" by jokes, actual jokes from a comedian or comedic writer is a choice. And silencing these folks for doing less than the comedy pioneers did is wild... Making a race based joke isn't racist. There's no ill intent. No racial superiority. No hate. The joke is written to make people laugh. That's the opposite of what you are trying to label them as...
Folks that have never experienced any real adversity in their life, and that have accomplished little to nothing, are trying to re-write the rules of society in order to make themselves feel better. So now we all have to exclusively listen to clean comedians because jokes about Hot Pockets and jet-skis can't be interpreted as offensive. Yet... Come on...
