Gamingtread gave it a 92 based off of "10 hours of shared playtime amongst 5 people" and then when IGN and Giantbomb gave it terrible scores, the reviewer proceeded to call Jeff G. a "douche" and "eggplant"XturnalS

Whatever, that just makes it obvious the reviewer at that no name site is suffering from an inferiority complex, or Kotick is paying him good money, I'm not sure which one it is. Maybe both. Jeff's reaction would be little more than "Cry moar, your tears fuel me". Reminds me of that whole Too Human mess where that moron Matt at IGN claimed everyone giving Too Human low scores was wrong or lying. (how does he still have a job? He's a walking talking puppet for Nintendo, and cannot possibly claim to give them unbiased coverage on the Wii page) Verbal diarrhea from an insecure little man who knows he doesn't match up.

That seemed like a terrible idea from the word go. Just an excuse to charge more for a new game in a very tired series. Oh well. Maybe they'll add the first two games as PSone classics to the Playstation Store one of these days, and we can relive the glory days.thunderf00t
You know I would buy those in a heart beat.

I suppose I am next on their list, though I don't see myself as much of an eggplant. I think I am more of a yam, or perhaps some type of artichoke. Kevin-V

The Idyll of Vanord: A ninja stirring up a flock of crows in a field of yams.... less arcadia, more badass.

-

It's a shame to see the Tony Hawk series so gutted, I remember playing THPS 3 for the first time and being generally pleased by it. The Tony Hawk series, back in the day, did everything a game should do - it was fun, it had solid level design, it was even better with a friend, and it had a high octane soundtrack to keep your ears happy while you played for hours on end.

-

Activision's serialization, combined with a simple steady decline of the series, have created what I'll call a "frothy latte of fail". Only one question remains, is there room in the E.T. landfill for all the plastic skateboard controllers?

Gamers don't like to get up and move around. Besides, why stand in front of the TV doing unrealistic movements to mimic skateboarding when you can just do it outside in the real world? It'll costs you less too!

LOL at the site who give this game a 9. *cant remember the site*

It was hilarious, such terrible journalism that goes beyond the usual piss-poor effort given to us by video game sites.

Can't say I'm surprised, when the controller for your game doesn't work well, it can only go down from there. Not to mention this game breaks the laws of physics constantly.

I suppose I am next on their list, though I don't see myself as much of an eggplant. I think I am more of a yam, or perhaps some type of artichoke.

Honestly, after reading the review, 3.5 seems too generous. The board that comes with the game is durable... and that's it for 'The Good'. A 1.5 seems about right. The only thing keeping it from being as bad as Big Rigs is the fact that the board is durable. lol

Is the Guitar Hero model going to be the inspiration for all of Activision's games? GG I could already see a $120 gun-peripheral for MW3.

Skateboarding games just dont have the same appeal to me like they used to anyways. But I am really not suprised at the score. Tony Hawk games have went to crap after pro skater 4.

See GS thinks Gameplay is more important than Story or Graphics. If you can't control your character, whats the point of playing?

And the fact that everything about the game isn't broken and the graphics aren't awful. I assume the music wasn't particularly bad either.

Look at Nintendo Wii games, like Wii Sports. People who have never played a videogame before are actually enjoying it. It just says that people like to mimic things in videogames and you really can't say that you should just go out and skateboard for real because it's really hard.

Maybe so, but the most important aspect of the game that should NOT be broken IS. Controls are broken, and that makes for an unplayable game. I don't care what the game looks like, or if the music may be good. Bottomline is that the game is terrible, and as the review said, the controls are "busted". Thus why I think 3.5 is too generous.

The game is bad, a 3.5 is bad I wouldn't go as far as to say it' abysmal I don't think a 2.5 would overstep the bounds of decency though having demo'd the game at a store

When you say that it makes it sound like Ride had good graphics or story, when it most certainly has neither.

Yeah, but 3.5 gets the point across well enough that you shouldn't buy the game. Using 1-4 interchangeably should be discouraged.

Oh wow, that sounds wonderful. Do you have a link to these proceedings? If this is accurate Gamingtrend ought to be barred from sites like Gamerankings and Metacritic. Along with those other shill sites who attended this review event and rated it ridiculously high. It is obvious they have no credibility or integrity whatsoever.

yeah they have just killed the tony hawk series, i can see this dropping in price after a month. i can't believe tony hawk actually said in interviews that it feels just like you're really skating, i know he has to sell the product but damn surely he must have seen how crappy it actually was.

There are tons of Tony Hawk Ride stacked up in the aisle at my local Best Buy. They sure wont sell at $119.00 a pop now with all the bad reviews. Maybe they can try to blow them out at $39.00 on Black Friday and if they are lucky, they will sell 2 or 3 of them to unsuspecting customers.

Well lets just say that the Tony Hawk games have lost their spark. They've gone from great to good to bad to worse. The declining Tony Hawks games are just a result of careless developers who just expect everyone to buy their games at a hefty price tag, regardless of the price. Well done Tony Hawk. Also he announced that he is going to make a sequel. :(

A game gets a 1 or a 2 if everything/virtually everything about it is bad (see Big Rigs, Gods and Generals). This game had some minor parts that were OK according to the review, but not enough to balance the core gameplay being broken, so it got 3.5. It's really not worth complaining when it conveys perfectly well that the game is garbage.

Well Lair also had amazing production values but busted gameplay and it outscored Ride. So maybe production values do make a difference I guess. It's what keeps games like Ride and Lair stand out from abysmal ones like Big Riggs and Charlies Angels.

Why don't they just go back to basics and make Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 already? I would buy that in a heartbeat.Superzone
Because Neversoft is occupied and they don't have any other reliable studios that can handle the series as it was before. Now they're just using it to spearhead their plastic peripheral initiative.

I will probably still buy it, but not for $120. My cousin seems to have fun on it and its just for fun anyway. As long as people have fun its all good regardless of scores. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

It's obvious that Kevin was paid off for this review, I mean this game is a 3.0 MAX. I can't think of any other reason why the score is so heavily inflated. I guess Kevin will be having an extra special Christmas, thanks to Activision :P
