Top 10 most overrated games of this gen

1. Oblivion. Jesus that game was shallow. Dark Messiah got a what? 8.0? It was infinitely better than Oblivion.

2. SMG. No.

3. LOZ:TP. No.

4. Crysis. Looks nice. That's it. The game makes Far Cry look like a modern marvel, even though it came after far cry.

5. MGSIV. Terrible controls. Terrible animations. Fun, but ultimately repetitive gameplay.

6. Warhawk. Are you kidding me? This game SUCKS.

7. GeoW. Online sucks hard compared to GRAW & RB6V.

8. GTAIV. Meh.

9. Company of Heroes. Seriously underwhelming RTS. Starcraft is the standard that everyone fails on.

10. GT5p. This game sucks.

No, I'm saying those games are overrated because the reviewers were buttered up or flat-out expected to give those review scores. The sad thing about reviewers is you are always going to have massive fanboys reviewing the most hyped games. That will never change.

I disagree. I think the game got a little bit of a hype courtesy in it's scores. If Gamespot had .1 grading it would have been 9.7 or 9.8. The game is uneven. First half they trick you into thinking the game is open world and mostly gameplay. Then the last three Acts are cutscenes. Control is still quite clumsy. Minor gameplay upgrades. First two Acts were amazing, Act 3 blew, Act 4 was good for nostalgia's sake, and Act 5 was rushed. The game is very uneven. I love MGS, but I was unfulfilled by the thrown together story. I left this game disappointed. After playing it through two times, I know for sure that the game was a high 9 not 10. The online is a complete joke.

I dont understand how people can put Bioshock on that list. That game oozes with style. I think people dont like it because its not like all the other FPS's. I cant name 10 but I can name 5.

I love system wars.

I don't have a top 10 list. But here are a few overrated games this gen...

1. Call of Duty 3. How this game managed to get the same score on GS as CoD2 is beyond my comprehension.

2. WarioWare Wii - The game should have scored 7.5 at the most.

3. Oblivion - I can't believe I played this game as long as I did. I kept hoping it would get better. It never did. The leveling system in the game is among the worst I've ever seen. And since I have it on 360, I can't add mods to help the situation...

4. GTA IV - Great game, no doubt. But it certainly did not deserve a 10 on GS.

6. World in Conflict - even graphics aren't that good

5. Call of Duty 4 - fun, fast but way too short

4. Gears of War - has its fun times, but mostly it's just a pretty meh game

3. Rainbow Six: Vegas - left its tactical direction and adopted all gung-ho gameplay

2. Oblivion - lost all of the depth of Elder Scrolls games

1. Bioshock - great graphical design, but incredibly repetitive with boring enemies

Halo 3 - I don't think it's necessarily overrated, because that was a very complete game. People that didn't like it probably didn't like Halo to begin with.

GTAIV - Not overrated. People that say it's overrated overlook what the game is trying to do. I don't think it got as many "courtesy 10's" as MGS4. However, thats just my opinion.

MGS4 - Slightly overrated. I've played it, beat it. Great game, yeah, best game evar! No. The game annoyed me when it went from open world do what you want for the first half, and the second half was linear as hell.

Understandable on most accounts. I disagree with gta4 though. I understand what you are saying and what they were trying to accomplish but in the end, it was essentially the same thing but gimped on features. It improved vastly on realism but most of the fun things simply vanished. Some of those things which gta-3d has been known for. I say its overrated because it had evident problems and missing features. It also felt clunky as all hell. Good game overall but it aint no 10 like every site was making it out to be. I think most sites bought into the hype a little too much but thats just me.

Same goes for mgs4. My personal score is 10/10 though. It just felt perfect to me. I agree though; It went from open to closed but all the other mgs games were linear as all hell too so Im used to it. As for halo, I dont know because I personally feel it is slightly overrated but I understand that people do infact like the game for what it is and I can respect that.

MGS4 (I'm not a fan nor have I ever been...if you can go ahead and disregard this if you love MGS)...I just think that the story in the game could have been much better presented than a giant cut scene at the very end of the game...People may disagree with me but I consider this more of a MGS fan game than a game for everyone (I played MGS3 and I was completely lost by all of the dialogue at the end) ...A good game? Yes. Best game ever? No.

2. GTA4 - Had less content than previous games, a weaker storyline and less entertaining missions....Why was this given a 10?

3. Oblivion - I am a long time fan of the Elder Scrolls series....This was a giant disappointment...Bethesda needs to go back to making dungeons the old way. Generating the landscape and caves made the game world feel very recycled.

4. Halo 3 - Failed to replicate what Halo and Halo 2 did right...Bungie simply can't find a balance with online and singleplayer.

5. Perfect Dark Zero- Almost laughable that gamespot gave it a 9.0

(I didn't include any Wii games because I sold it after owning it only 2 weeks...It didn't fit my style of games)

No More Heroes: Don't get me wrong. It was fun to play and Totally hilarius but the replay value is quite small after you unlocked the true ending. Not worth the 40 bucks I payed fot it.

Halo 3: Sorry but I don't get why everybody says the multyplayer is awesome. It's just shallow.

Does WoW count? If yes: Not half as engaging as everybody says. I never got into it. IMO It was even boring. Stick to D2.

Overrated is such a meaningless term. Basically people are listing games that they didn't like but reviewers or lots of people did.

What's with people saying the Orange Box is overated? Even if you consider Half Life 2 overated (Though if you call yourself an FPS fan, then it's blasphemy), Portal overated (It is totally blown out of proportions, great, but it's still a 3 hour long puzzle game), thought episode 1 and 2 were more of the same and thought TF2 sucked (It was allright), that's still 5 games which are atleast worth playing for a single retail price. I hardly see how it is overated, even with the most extreme stance. Infact you can even find this game for about 25% of it's original price, which defies the rules of bargains.

Personally though I thought GTA 4, CoD 4, Halo 3 (Easy pickings, I know, but I will explain at the very least), Forza 2 and Mass Effect. Well that's five... whatever.

GTA 4 - It lacked alot of the content that made the previous games so much fun. To much focus on realism and repition, and at the end of the game I just found myself very bored with it.

CoD4 - Short. Too short. Entertaining while it lasted, but the very least they could have done was give us more time with the Americans, thosse levels were the games high points. (I'm not American by the way, so don't jump me)

Halo 3 - It's by no means a bad game, but it's to flawed for it to be scoring as highly as it has been. It baffles me as to why critics failed to point out some blatantly obvious issues with this game.

Forza 2 - The most fun I had with this game was customising. The courses (They were based on real life though) were so mind numbingly boring to drive that I was half asleep at the end of each 9 or so minute race. All it needed was more courses, more intresting courses that is.

Mass Effect - Now I love SciFi, and I love WRPG's so naturally this was a day one purchase for me. The game wasn't bad, I loved the universe and the characters, but it felt a little short, and had way to much filler content (Side Quests). The combat system was a bit clumsy aswell. I felt Gamespots review was reasonable though.

I suppose another five would be Bioshock, MGS4, SSBM, Gears of War and FF:CC, but I enjoyed all of them enough for me not to care all that much, in other words I didn't find them all that overated.

It means both. This board is all about opinion, and varying tastes. If someone says a game is overated, they are stating their opinion on it. There's nothing wrong with that, besides it's a subjective term anyway. Would you rather it was called "Top 10 games that you felt failed to offer you an experience that gave you a feeling of being content"?

I don't know about that... but I do know that GeoW should be on that list, at least ahead of Halo 3. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't get the love for Gears.
