Hands down
From Left 4 dead, you can't tell me you that you wasn't atleast on edge when you first came across it, the witch is the most dangerous boss in teh game besides the big brute...

Yes, I remember that too now! At first I skipped the info saying how to kill them. I shot off his head the moment I saw that thing, it grew back... WHAT? And it was still walking towards me! I"ll never forget this... And their breathing was... terrifying.Regenerators in RE4 scared the hell out of me. Their breathing made me cringe.

This guy is scary.
Anyone with STALKER knows am right. ;)

Yeah, although I think Controllers were slightly scarier, especially in Call of Pripyat where the screen would turn yellow/blue if one was near.
Times like these make me want S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so badly :(
They are such good games, Console only players have no idea what they are missing out on.
I can't believe necromorphs were missing from the list. ^ They are pretty scary because they popout and you can hear them coming but you don't know from where.
gbpackers94
And they play dead :?
The chainsaw guy from RE4 also freaked me out....
This might not be the case for most of you, though I found alot of the creatures in Metroid Prime/2 to be unnerving at startling at times...I think it has to do with the incredible world and subtle ambience the Metroid prime series' worlds create. It feels very believable and very hostile towards you (Espicially the Chozo Ghosts and Space piratesfrom Metroid prime, and thedark worldcreatures and manifestations from Metroid Prime 2.
I didnt think Dead space or Resident Evil 4were scary at all though.
no deadhand?
Vaasman
I cant believe this hasnt been quoted as its the only correct answer.

While the ghosts in Fatal Frame were already mentioned, I have to give a specific shout-out to the broken-neck women for my experiences I had with her. I was in the house and hadn't seen anything and for whatever God-awful reason I randomly decided to pull my camera out and she was RIGHT THERE IN MY ******* FACE!!! If I were to ever **** myself from fright it would have been right there. Best part is I ended up having friends over watching me play the game later on and I got to that area and told them about her but couldn't find her. I went and did the exact thing I did and I said "see I just went down these stairs like this and then pulled out my camera like this..." and of course right as I said and did that she was RIGHT THERE AGAIN!!! It made everyone of us jump.

Would this be the one? :P
lol nope actually. Wrong game!
It would be this one at about 6:30 BUT I had a random encounter with her at the bottom of the stairs in that house. Thing is she normally DOES NOT APPEAR untill you trigger that cutscene, BUT pulling out my camera made her show up.
first time i was scared by a video game...just the fact hes always above you watching you as you scramble to stop him. The forest kid wearing the Mask was also very scary...Dark game
I find the Iron Maiden and Regenerator from Resident Evil 4 quite scary during my first encounter with it, didn't even know what to do at first.
We all know that this is the scariest monster
The water is a mass murder of woodland critters, what a monster!
The sewer monsters in Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire for the N64. I think they are called Dianogas. That game and those monsters made me afraid of water levels so bad.
When i first played the game and i had barely any weapons. This thing was scary as hell. I didnt know what to expect. The way the ground shakes when it moves. Its deadly fast and dangerously powerful. It also is a bullet sponge from hell.

BioDogshock
I havent played much Bioshock outside the demo but dont they only bother you when you attack them? and then stop when you scurry away.
###Possible SPOILER ###
Hercules from GOW3 really looks scary, after Kratos beats the living hell out of him... wow
I can't seem to find a picture of the Vagabond from Alone in the Dark, but he gets my vote.
The Creatures of Night By Hurbertus the Bald
translated from Latin by his brother in prayer Fratre Johaqn Markus
Of Monstrasity
You who read me, know that night engenders monsters and that night creatures
exist. The accursed book of Abdul Al Azred is clear on this matter: "That is
not dead which can eternal lie." Unhappy he who knows that book. Unhappy he
whose eyes alight upon that foulest of texts. Unhappy he who implores the
standing stones. For he will free the powers of darkness.
Of the Pit
Stagnant waters are like the memory of men. Beneath the surface calm, clawed
beasts away and are known to initiates as the Deep Ones. Awaiting his prey, the
Deep One seizes him and drags him to the abyss where Dagon the cruel god swims
and reveres him whose name may not be pronounced.
Of libraries
Unhappy he who frees the prowler. Unhappy he who meets the prowler erring among
the books. He generates the vagabond that comes from other spheres. He believes
the vagabond does not exist. He will feel the embrace of death for, in the eyes
of the vagabond, books are no more than dreams, stone no more than wind. The
vagabond knows how to take the breath of the reckless.
Of strife
He who speaks does not know and believes he is able to kill the creatures of
the night. Folly. Evil is conjured up by science and secrecy. He who prowls
among books will perish by the blade. He who flies in the dark caverns will
scream in fear. He who swims in the depths will evaporate. But he who believes
he knows knows nothing. He who knows says nothing. P#J#JOf death. There are
domains more terrible than death. That is not dead which can eternal lie. Each
creature is conjured up and is not dead but returns to the origins. A monster,
a science. Stell kills the vagabond who never dies.
Translator's note. + + Here ends the manuscript of Hubertus, who died in the
library of the convent of Jaroella in the year of Our Lord 1666. Reguiescat in
pace. + + +

Times like these make me want S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so badly :(
They are such good games, Console only players have no idea what they are missing out on.Yeah, now that I have a PC that is capable of running games properly for the first time in years, S.T.A,L.K.E.R. is, for me, THE ultimate evidence that it's worth having a gaming PC. They're apparently gonna port it to the consoles, but I can't see that working without a heavily redesigned (read: simplified) interface.
Pff, those were lame, the scariest of them all wasn't even in there.
The only game monster to ever give me the chills were that giant blue monster in Half-Life that would run after you when it say you. You couldn't see it because it was behind you but you could hear it getting closer and closer... goosebumps :)
[QUOTE="Fightingfan"]No dead space creatures or necromorphes this thread fails.l4dak47I agree. Dead Space had some of the scariest creatures I ever saw. Dead space wasnt scary.
Nothing mentioned so far is anywhere close to the horrible, fear-inducing monstrosity that is...
Tingle.

More often than not I play Rome: Total War or Medieval 2: Total War on there

It didnt scare me too much but it did get me a couple of times, but the atmosphere was amazing. Love that game :D
Wow, I can't believe I forgot Chadarnook from Final Fantasy 6.
At first, it appears simply as Lakshimi.
But then it will slowly turn into a twisted demon.
The bestiary of FFVI Advance only shows the Lakshimi version, so the demon phase came as a complete surprise for me.
Seriesly though, as intimidating as you go further in Demon's Souls, these characters were terrifying upon first meeting...
Tower Knight; after going through all that hell passing the guards with arrows and blue-eyed knights and not getting your ass burned by the Red Dragon, I was like "You gotta be freakin'..."
When I first played the game, there was really no way for you to beat this guy...
The Old Hero wasn't really hard but when he came out of his grave it was terrying looking...
Of course who couldn't forget these...
The Mind Flayer that chases you and once he captures you, he sucks you out taking 3/4 of your health...
 Seriesly, you thought you could pas this guy pretty easy huh?...
GS didn't award this game GOTY for nothing; more like Frustrating of the Year.

For most people Dead Space is a scary game. Rightfully so.
