Do not make me laugh. Gears of war should have a lower score then it does, 8.0-8.5 tops. Terrible storys, terrible characters, terrible gameplay. The three things it did good were implementing a ok cover system(rainbow six did a better job), good multiplayer, and good graphics. Not worth the score it got at all.Gears of War (IMO). Got a great score, but deserved a lot bigger

Wow, you just reminded me of that. That game easily deserves 8.0+.

I finished the original Gears for the first time about a week ago and i can say it's one of my favorite games this gen.
graphics are still excellent and the gameplay is flawless.
I don't understand how people can hate on the Gears cast, yet applaud Kratos ...
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Resident Evil Remake, Super Smash Bros Melee, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories are games that comes to my mind that really deserved AAA but only to come up a bit short here on gamespot. I could name a few more that are deserving of the AAA score, but since this is only for the top 5 game I will keep this list short.
Metroid Prime 3- 9-9.5
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune- 9-9.5
Resistance: FOM- 9
Socom- Please re-review it and give it at least an 8 now that the bugs are gone
Deus Ex..AAllxxjjnn
THAT DIDN'T GET A 9?! LOL.... Gamespot was a complete joke back in the day. I mean they are better now but back then man they refused to give anything a good score.
In the same year they gave MGS3 a 8.8 they gave Halo 2 a 9.4...that had to be the biggest joke ever
playharderfool
Yeah Im a huge halo fan but looking back halo 2 really sucked. One of the worst singleplayer experiences ever and the online suffered from horrible weapon balancing. However the maps were absolutely flawless Imo they were the best ever on a console exclusive shooter.

WRONG. GS was AWESOME back in the day. They didn't throw away 9s even if the game was flawed, back then, you had to be REALLY good to get AAA. Only games like Metroid Prime, Half-Life 2, Halo, and MGS2, games of the highest possible quality could earn a nine. Back then, a 5 was just average, not terrible. In old GS, if you so much as got an 8, you were still an excellent game, like SSMB, Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario Sunshine, MGS3, etc. The new GS garuntees that if the game has high production values, it will get AAA.[QUOTE="VendettaRed07"][QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"]Deus Ex..enterawesome

They gave shenmue a 7.5, shenmue 2 an 8.6 and pokemon an 8.8 Thats pretty much why I think they were unfair lol. I mean Pokemon red/blue was an rpg made for the black and white gameboy. I litterally defy god himself to make a better rpg for that system. It litterally pushed it to the max in every way possible. And well shenmue is shenmue, there is a reason fanboys on here like me to this day still talk about how freaking awesome that game was and why shenmue 3 is like the most wanted sequel in the gaming world.

It got a 9.6 How the hell can you get a lot bigger than that? :?
SaintBlaze
It deserved at least a 10. I recently played it, and it's still the best the 360 got. Perfect physics, awesome gameplay, great characters and bad-ass weapons!
I've probably played way more Gears than you ever will, and there's no way it should get a 10. The campaign was too much of a bore to warrant it getting a perfect 10.
Yeah don't get me wrong I love Gears of War, but I don't even think it deserves AAA status, it deserves AA at the most, how could a game with:
1) Short Campaign
2) Glitchy, Unballanced, Broken Online
3) Weak Story
4) Even weaker characters that are walking cliche's and sterotypes
possibly deserve a 10/10?
None. Although there are games I like better than the scores GS gave them, I really liked the days when you had to be REALLY amazing to score AAA. The harsh, very critical, yet fair GS was the best. Nowadays they hand 9s to 360 and PS3 games like it's candy on Halloween, just like IGN.enterawesome
I fixed that for ya.
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.I think anything with "Pokemon" in the title should be under a 9 automatically before even reviewing it. Every title is the same crap, just with new trainers, in a new area. It reminds me of Madden, honestly.Pokemon Gold/SilverGreyfeld
The .1 off of smash bros melee was painful.
Anyways, I feel Diddy Kong racing definitely should have gotten a 9.0 AT LEAST (GS gave it was 6.6, they obviously didn't play everything). The gameplay was actually excellent and noticeably different from Mario Kart 64. In the vs racing mode you'd picked up bananas to help increase your overall speed of your vehicle and if you were hit by a weapon, you would lose an amount of bananas and other players could pick them up. This created dynamic gameplay and gave you choice on how to approach a level. There were also different vehicles, with so many options and the handling of the vehicles were great and could be mastered. That game had everything. It even had full and very fun and long single player racing campaign that could be done co-op AND it was very hard = more fun! The multiplayer battle modes and contests were probably one of the most fun things I've ever did playing N64. It's up there with Super Smash Bros 64, 4 player Starfox multiplayer, and 4 player Perfect Dark/Goldeneye.
GS should have gave this game a 9.0 (especially for it's time). Also, I don't see how there are some people who argue that Mario Kart 64 was the better game. it clearly wasn't, lol.. It's really not even close. I think they only say that because DK Racing wasn't talked about as much and they haven't even played it.
You know what. In fact I want the people who have actually beaten Diddy Kong Racing by yourself or by co-op with a friend, or who have played a lot of the multiplayer (with 4 people). To read the BS in the IGN and GameSpot reviews.
This is absolutely ridiculously. Easily one of the worst reviews I've ever seen from these sites. It's clear that they haven't fully played the game at all...
This easily tops Ratchet and Clank's 'identity crysis' review in terms of fail.

Here, read this:
"While Pokémon Gold and Silver retain the basic mechanics of capturing, battling, and evolving introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue, new features were added. A time system was introduced using a real-time internal clock that keeps track of the current time and day of the week. Certain events, including Pokémon appearances, are influenced by this feature. New items were added, with some designed to exploit a new mechanic: Pokémon being able to hold items. A new type of item able to be held was the berry, which comes in varieties and can restore health or cure status effects. Other held items can give boosts to the Pokémon during battle. More specialized Poké Balls were introduced, which make Pokémon catching easier in certain situations. A new item called the Pokégearwas introduced, functioning as a watch, map, radio, and phone, allowing the player to call other characters who offer their phone number. Trainers will call for a rematch and others will call about rare Pokémon that can be caught in a certain area."
"Another major change was the splitting of the Special stat into Special Attack and Special Defense, which increased aspects of strategy."
"With the introduction of Pokémon breeding, Pokémon are assigned to one or two breeding groups. When a male and female Pokémon that share at least one breeding group are left at a Pokémon Daycare, they may produce an egg, which will hatch into a young Pokémon."
All of that was introduced into Gold/Silver, which by the way was only the SECOND installment in the Pokemon series of handheld games. Take all that and add it with the already fun and addicting gameplay of Red/Blue, you've got yourself a AAA title. Sadly, gamespot didn't feel the same way at the time.
Shadow of the Colossus - one of the most amazing games ever
Smash Bros Melee- One of the best multiplayer experiences out there, possibly the best when it was released
Mass Effect- I can understand this one not getting AAA, even though i love it,considering how terrible the frame rate was and the gameplay really wasnt all that great
Ratchet Up Your Arsenal
Jak 3- Soooooooooooooo much better the Jak 2
On GS?
Hmm..
MGS3,
Ratchet Future (either one of them),
MGS1,
GT 1,2 & 4,
Mass Effect,
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption,
Melee
Twilight Princess
Final Fantasy IX
Spyro Year of the Dragon
Silent Hill Shattered Memories,
Many many more.
Deus Ex. But really Mass Effect shouldn't have gotten AAA. Cover system, squad command system and gunplay sucks.AAllxxjjnnI agree with Mass Effect not getting AAA. I would also like to add it was so, so incredibly boring (the elevators made me want to shoot myself) and full of glitches and framerate issues on the 360 version. Most overrated game of this gen IMO.

- Disgaea 3 (amazing game, the only thing i can possibly point out as a negative is the graphics)
- Twilight Princess (I found nothing wrong with this game other than the excessive waggle. other than that, i got exactly what I wanted from a zelda game)
- SSBM (8.9....really? how did SSBB get a 9.5 then?)
- Fire Emblem 7 (probably my favorite game of all time.. one of 2 games that I'd rate a 10, along with metroid prime. they gave it an 8.9)
