TRUE NEXT GEN (NO NOT NEXT NEXT GEN) what this gen should really be

Hardware wise, Wii is not part of the same generation.
If you challenge this, I can give you countless quotes from major developers who only call PS3 and Xbox 360 and PC "next-gen"

hardwarewise it is. it is 1.5 times the power of the xbox....that is a fact and whether or not its show as of yet is another story and the most important point i am going to make is that that power is stuffed in a box that is SMALLER than my 80 gig harddrive and considering it has a drive in it and a gc controller hookup...all the tech is stuffed in a pretty small amount of space. All for 250 bucks....that is hext gen hardware...just a different route. Rather than much more power in a bigger device...the put moderatly more power in a much smaller device.

not that me studying electrical and computer engineering has anything to do with my understanding of the points i previously mentioned.....

oh and thats architecture...that is similar to gc...

you see the dual core amd 64 processor maybe considered to have similar architecture to an earlier 64 precessor....but there is a power difference.

space management and power.....have alot to do with whats high tech....take laptops vs pcs pricewise and techwise...im to lazy to type this out....long story...but yeah think about it

I felt that way about the presentaion of graphical standardstoo when the 360 and PS3 were just previews. They 360 didn't have one game that wasn't under the standard of the current PC lineup when it came out until Gears. And even then, they are just more shinies.

I wouldn't take the whole THis GEN thing that seriously, they still make and design games the way the did before for the most part so older games are still out performing most of the new ones in the fun dept. You'll know when we've made a significant leap when we're playing these games but atm i'd need more convincing there's anything significant in these titles to say we've upped the bar.

You still fail to take into account that its about the games and what the capabilities of a system can do to expand what makes a game. I don't care if you invented the wheel, not to be harsh or anything :o

Console-wise, the Wii is part of the same generation as the others. But REPEAT hardware-wise, it's not. Did you stop to think the Wii plays Gamecube games when it's basically a slightly more powerful Gamecube? Miyamoto said the Wii is "essentially a Gamecube" so, since the Gamecube was LAST-GEN, that means the Wii is closer to last gen in terms of power. Miyamoto said it himself, dont question him.

And the reason PS3 and Xbox 360 need to emulate past gen games shows that they have truly moved on to next-generation hardware since it's not even compatible with BC games wthout proper emulation.

And if the Wii was next-gen in power, it would get games like RE5, Grand Theft Auto 4, Call of Duty 4, and Star Wars Force Unleashed. The developers of these games said they are only possible on next-generation consoles! So basically, it's developers expertise versu your stranger's opinion. I dont need a buzzer to know who is more qualified here.

and i repeat hardware wise it is.....that doesnt mean powerwise....which it isnt....hardware is pretty general and by using it you pretty much skip over (purposely in attempt to critisize something you dont like as we all know) very important details.

Oh, and you are again equivicating when you say that miyamoto said what you put in quotes. I can proves this with any piece of legitamatearticle you can find.

the second paragraph is also not right....emulation has nothing to do with anyting...or hardly at all....they built the wii to include the functionality...where as the 360 can do the same no sweet if microsoft made the plan to or cared to ....creating a more powerful device does not make it necissary to emulate games because of how much it has "moved on"....what is put onto a disc is data...and the function of the drive is to read that data and the function of the system is to interpret and respond to that data...regardless of how powerful the system is...its not any more or less difficult.

who sayswhat is next gen in power....that is opinion....this gen, IMO, has a broader range of power than last....where all systems are more powerful than last; the wii being at the bottom of the spectrum and the ps3 arguably is at the top.

Out of that list the only games i think are nest gen are

bioshock

crysis (gameplay looks good, but the graphics are so awesome it makes it next gen by itself.)

Mass Effect (good graphics, not as good as others but then there is the size of the game and the gameplay which make it next gen)

Halo 3 (this game has all the signs of next get, why does no one agree? Good graphics, Hopefully an awesome SP, but then there are all the features that are sure to make a good game, like forge and that elephant thing that sounds awesome, also the awesome A.I which will make SP alot of fun......hopefully.)

dude dont be a fanboy... give KZ2 and MGS the respect they desirve...KZ2 has the most adv lighting engine in the world, only bad thing in the pre alpha we saw was the textures, as fore MGS4, that game is amazing, the AI is probly the smartest in a game, if u look back at old MGS games and the Gen they were in u will see what i mean, i guess ill give mass effect little more credit, but its not that that amazing, and ill stand my ground on halo 3... also KZ2 graphics are just as good wiht the lighting in comparson to crysis, so in ur terms that makes it next gen too

Hae im not being a fanboy, I honestly don't think what was shown of killzone 2 was as impressive as alot of other games, but MGS4 on the other hand is looking like an awesome game and should be on the list, but when you say the A.I is the smartest in a game i would have to disagree, from what iv seen they are far from dumb but have shown no sign of being smarter than alot of A.I in some other games, but the game is still in development so who knows how it will turn out.

And i don't see how my post made me look like a fanboy? as far as I'm concerned there are only 3 next gen systems PC, 360 and ps3, i just happens that i think the most "next gen looking games are coming out on two of those platforms. But like I said MGS4 is looking like an impressive game and will most likely be as impressive as bioshock, crysis and mass effect.

Innovative being a gimped co-op or spinning your remote to get from planet to planet. Just because something uses the wii-mote doesnt mean its "innovative". Dont get me wrong i think SMG with do good (AAA-AA not a for sure AAA though imo) i just see this innovative word throw around a lot for the wii

I really hate these threads. You have people like you who try and make the wiimote try and sound really insignificant and say all you do is swing. Well I can do that to. All you do in tennis is swing! Big whoop!! Fanboys try to make it sound insignificant and make stuff like Physics ai and graphics a HUGE deal. Its just opinion wars really. Some people like motion senising while others don't. But I am not paying 1000 dollars for a ps3 and HDTV just to see shiny water effects. YAY!!! The water has shadow how revolutionary.
