Personally, I like both, but probably JRPGs more since rpg games hook me with character progression and JRPGs do this aspect better. The stories in RPGs always suck compared to almost any book, and the gameplay itself isn't usually as rich as say Devil May Cry would be. I just need those ultimate weapons, secret characters and super spells, along with some good old fashioned over-the-top effects.
false
they are very different
WRPGs are more like table top D&D style
where as JRPGs you meerly controle the chars. along the story, more like an interactive movie
Jrpg = Wrpg[QUOTE="shadow_hosi"]If they are very different, then how does JRPG = WRPG ?false

Because equal does not mean the same.

You're right of course.. Ugh. I hate brain farts.:(For the majority, false.
For a few choice examples like Mass Effect, true.
I find JRPGs to be far more consistent in quality than WRPGs.
Its really funny you pick good RPGS and some bad rpgs on the WRPG...
Try Baldur's Gate series, Planescape Torment, KOTOR etc etc..
And I think niether are better or worse.. Some of my favorite games are in both genres...
You picked some awful examples of WRPGs.RobbieH1234I agree I would of said Mass Effect, KOTOR and BG2 as JRPG's his examples were awful also I would went with Shin Megami Tensei,Final Fantasy Person series or XenoGears(PSX)
Ive played enough JRPGs and WRPGs to say that there is nothing that has beaten ff7 yet.Yongying
I disagree, many games have beaten FF7 before it came out and after. FF7 only cracked open the Jrpg market for the USA. I never thought it was the best rpg ever, FF6 has always been a much better game imo.

Saying that WRPGs are better is like saying milk chocolate is better than dark chocolate. Its not true. It seems all the lemmings are using ME as their new excuse. One game. When there is a kajillion (may be exaggerating) great games cough *fire emblem, tales of...,golden sun, FF, disgaea, Dragon Quest, etc...*uncough, that are JRPGs.TalesofRaGnArOk
Milk Chocolate > Dark Chocolate.
and there are tons of classic WRPG franchises ... jsut because they dont milk it as much as the japanese milk everything in existance, doesnt mean they are not as popular or not as good.

Do not put LO in the same category as FF.
I like both genres.

Wizardry? Ultima? Might and Magic? Wrpgs are milked just as much as JRPGs.

Ultima? as in 1980s? do you blame them? it was much harder to make things unique back then based on technology , can you name any recent milked WRPGs? because I dont see more than 2-3 games of each.
The majority of the time I like JRPGs a lot more. However, there are some EXCELLENT games in both genres.
WRPG - Diablo, Elder Scrolls, Baldurs Gate
JRPG - Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Chrono series
PS: what would Dark Cloud be considered as? It's made by sony.

But you're blaming JRPGs for game such as Final Fantasy wish have been around since the 80's too, don't be a hypocrite. Most good RPGs are sequels of very old franchises.
