@achilles614: @ConanTheStoner: I just thought of something: I'm looking at all these reviews on some of these monitors and one from Tom's hardware said they had some screen tearing in BF4 as the monitor has no Gsync or Freesync....but it was a 144hz monitor. But Vsync eliminates that....so they are recording these numbers without vsync on,....right?

But that made me think...how does regular Vsync affect response time when turned on?

I mean...I've been looking for high hz monitors and low input lag monitors, but I always use Vsync as I can't stand screen tearing....so how is that going to affect the 2 main things I'm looking for in my monitors?

I mean...the main thing I'm looking for is something that won't have too much ghosting/blurring/etc and a resolution above 1080p.

Could you guys check out my thread in the PC/Linux forum. I've picked 2 32 inch monitors and it's a toss up...last thing I need help with.

It's between the Asus pb328q and a BenQ bl3200pt.

@mr_huggles_dog: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=984491 if you want to read up on some vsync stuff, bottom line is regardless of the vsync method it always adds up some latency, how much depends on multiple variables, the higher your fps the less the latency as well, certainly was enough to get ps4 players to get vsync forced on pc sfv when you could turn vsync off through ini edit

So Vsync eliminates screen tearing and stuttering as long as you can maintain the framerate at 60hz, so if you get drops below 60 FPS for example you will start to get tearing and stutters, that is caused by desynchronization.

What GSync and FreeSync do is essentially the same thing that Vsync does, however they work dynamically and adjust the refresh rate on the fly so the display will always be synchronized with the in game frame rate as long as you maintain 40-144 FPS. This means you will see the benefits of the synchronization and you will have a refresh rate swing from 40hz all the way up to 144hz, so if you render above 60 FPS for example your refresh will follow the FPS up beyond it, this is something Vsync is incapable of, you're locked to 60.

I see that you bought the TV you were looking at but still want a monitor on top of that, I'd say don't compromise here, you already got a large format display so you're covered there. Get something large enough (27") and go for performance this time (144hz FreeSync/Gsync).

You have to understand as well, having a FreeSync/Gsync display, you will get more longevity out of your PC hardware, what do I mean by this? So when games start coming out as time goes on that you simply cannot maintain 60 FPS at, FreeSync/Gsync will be there to pick up the slack for your framerate dips. This will provide you a much better hardware end life cycle and smoother gaming experience than if you go with a traditional display only capable of Vsync. This could get you an additional year or more out of your graphics cards in terms of having a smoother stutter and tear free experience when your hardware simply can't render newer tech to the same degree that it once could.
