[QUOTE="Game_Addict247"]But in terms of Atmosphere Twilight Princess surpasses OoT. I strongly disagree. The worst part about TP for me was the (imho) total lack of atmosphere.I suppose Ocarina of Time was better for its time. HOWEVER, if you play either one for the first time, you won't magically transport back to 1998 nor conform to its standards. As unreasonable as it sounds, comparing them side to side is probably the only way to correctly judge them. Otherwise, things like nostalgia and childhood memories get in the way.
So I vote Twilight Princess.
Nintendo_Ownes7
I'm not surprised at the MM preference because I honestly think they're just kidding if they stay that. Also; I'm making a theory that says if you're young and didn't experience OOT at launch or during that era, then that means you wouldn't understand the impact that game made when it came out. Everyone has their own opinion on matters, that's fine. I'm just trying to use information to help form my theory. Call this thread "research" for me.mythrol
Just to let you know, I played OoT when it first came out -- first edition, gold cartridge, and all that stuff -- and I prefer MM. :|
I loved the hell out of ocarina of time. I have been a zelda fan for as long as i remember.. in fact the very first game that i exclusively owned was Links adventure(a very underated zelda). OoT, Original, LA, LttP, MM, WW... they are all among my favourite games ever to be released. The legend of zelda is by far my favourite franchise.
Ocarina was amazing even by todays standards, and i have some very fond memories of it.. as for twilight princess? It was astounding! I loved every bit of that game. I was in awe the entire time i played it(similar to my OoT and LttP experiences), and i pourred nearly 70 hours into it within the two weeks of owning it after release. Ocarina of time was amazing, and definitely was more "revolutionary".. but that in no way means TP is inferior. TP did everything right and brought alot of new things not seen in other zelda games. Nintendo successfuly brought an action adventure game to their new system using its motion sensing controls.
In twilight princess Link was at his coolest, the world was its largest, and the bosses were some of the most epic i have fought against. The mood and pacing were perfect, the story and characters were endearing, the art was brilliant, and the music was awesome(hyrule field for instance). The controls were great. In the wii version of this game made the spin attack a very useful skill and vastly improved on range combat.. you could actually move forward and backword while aiming. Also, there were tons of things to do in this game. Bull-crap to anyone who says there weren't many "side quests". Countless hearts, finding many of which were their own sidequests. One moment i'm racing yetis on a chunk of ice or flying through caverns popping balloons, then i'm relaxing in a canoe fishing and finally, facing off in the western themed town(genious btw).
Ocarina was amazing, but twilight princess was better. Many here seem to disagree, but to me; it reminded me of why i love games so much. This game was in no way a ocarina rip-off, rehash, or an unoriginal game. I'm curious to know if the people who claim these things of TP also believe them of LttP?
I loved twilight princess so much, it really is hard to explain. It just had so much amazing diversity in its world. A beautiful ice mansion(my favourite dungeon any game has ever produced), a haunting desert ruins with an epic and fast paced boss battle, the stylized and creepy twilight world. Not to mention the final showdown was so satisfying. This game was epic.. you really felt like you had gone everywhere and seen everything by the time you finished the story.
EDIT: To anyone who thinks someone cannot prefer one game to another, stop being a close minded idiot. There are even some people who couldn't get into ocarina but loved twilight princess.
I think it all comes down to hype.
I was extremely excited about OoT before it was released, and when it did... Let's just say I didn't enjoy it as much as I felt I should.
I didn't hype Twilight Princess at all, and sure enough, I enjoyed it much more than OoT.
firedonut
In regards to your OoT experience, that sucks. Sorry to hear it didn't live up to your hype. I would agree that hyping a game less can increase the experience of the game because you won't be dissapointed.. but there is something to be said for hyping a game alot to find it surpasses even that.
Personally, i have never been more excited for a game then i had been for LttP, OoT and TP. All of them surpassed my expectations, they just happen to be the kind of games that i prefer i suppose. Cater to my tastes, so to speak!
[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"] yep...he just lost all credibilityproject343:roll: So, because I'm overly opinionated, and my opinion differs from you, I lose my credibility? Twilight Princess felt like a chore to me, and I'm a huge fan of the series.
Not everybody found it to be an insult to the Zelda franchise. The same applies to Zelda II, since not everybody hated that game:P. Why o why do people hate it.................StealthStingI respect your opinion. Your original statement was waaay to inconsistent for you to have credibility in the debate. That's why the comment was made.

Twilight Princess was an insult to 3D Zelda games, (next to the CD-i games, and Zelda II) it was the worst Zelda game I've ever played. No, I'm not being a fanboy. I've beaten: - Minish Cap - Ocarina of Time - Majora's Mask - Wind Waker - Oracle of Ages - Oracle of Seasons - The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past - Zelda IIproject343These statements are inconsistent with not being a fanboy. You've beaten all of those Zelda's but not TP, to say it's the worst game you have ever played :? It plays like ZELDA. Was it too much Zelda for you or what?
TP was pretty bad in terms of Zelda games. Brown52dear lord finally someone says it , its great and AAA as a adventure game but as a Zelda game its easily the worst in recent history
[QUOTE="Pangster007"]i've played and completed every 3D zelda except for TP. Liked every one of them. All were great imo, but OoT had the advantage of being there first and making an impact. I think whether which Zelda is better or not depends a lot on people's preferences; for example, WW being more light-hearted, MM being darker with a sense of foreboding. and ouch... the polls are suggesting that i would be letdown when i will come to play TP...JandurinPeople just put too much... into OoT. Just like FF7. TP was great. And it's general feeling changes smoothly. Like, what you feel like doing. I'm on the last temple, and I took my time, but I've definitely enjoyed.
I swear sometimes I think people vote for OoT just because it's a poll choice. Remember that Zelda won a 'Best FPS' poll once.
lol Yeah I know . Alot of people I know have indeed liked TP and never liked OOT, it actually makes it kind of funny to see people saying that TP is a complete rehash of OOT under those circumstances. For example the guy that reviewd TP in 1up, is one of them. He didn't find OOT to be all that special, but he definitely loved TP.EDIT: To anyone who thinks someone cannot prefer one game to another, stop being a close minded idiot. blahzor
Hah! I wasn't here for that, but that's pretty good.I swear sometimes I think people vote for OoT just because it's a poll choice. Remember that Zelda won a 'Best FPS' poll once.

These statements are inconsistent with not being a fanboy. You've beaten all of those Zelda's but not TP, to say it's the worst game you have ever played :? It plays like ZELDA. Was it too much Zelda for you or what?TSComboAll previous Zelda titles were enjoyable, Twilight Princess was a 30-hour chore. There were a lot of "" moments, nothing was ever a surprise (well, except for someone being a little too sexy at the ending [if you know what I mean]). Most of the bosses were lame, and their mini-boss counterparts were typically more enjoyable. The items simply aren't balanced throughout the game as you hardly ever use the Dominion Rod after the temple which you receive it in. One of my biggest complaints was the lack of magic, and magic arrows. Bomb arrows were cool, but it just wasn't the same. Nintendo could have potentially filled the game with very clever transformation puzzles, but there are none. The wolf becomes next to useless after you have the option to turn into a human at any time... it was just poorly planned out. I could continue to nitpick at all the flaws in the game, but that would simply be me rambling on. The bottom line is that I didn't enjoy the game, yet I've enjoyed every other Zelda title that I've played (except Zelda II).

That's a decent post, even with those complaints it doesn't sound like the worst GAME you have ever played, assuming you play more than just Zelda. And to call the game a disgrace to 3D Zeldas considering what it good asspects it offered and the similarities to Oot and WW....

Didn't he say it was the worst Zelda in the first place?
That's a decent post, even with those complaints it doesn't sound like the worst GAME you have ever played, assuming you play more than just Zelda. TSComboI said it was the worst Zelda game I've ever played (next to CD-i Zeldas and Zelda II). So that would end up looking like: 1. Majora's Mask 2. Ocarina of Time 3. A Link to the Past 4. The Legend of Zelda 5. Wind Waker 6. Minish Cap 7. Oracle of Ages 8. Oracle of Seasons 9. Twilight Princess 10. Zelda II
And to call the game a disgrace to 3D Zeldas considering what it good asspects it offered and the similarities to Oot and WW....TSComboWhat made Ocarina of Time so great was that it reinvented the series to fit into the 3D era, and it made this transition better then any other Zelda title. Another thing that made Ocarina of Time so great was the non-linearity to the dungeons. You were typically given 2 keys, and you had several possible paths to take in whichever order you chose; however, Twilight Princess took a step backwards. In Twilight Princess there was always 1 key, 1 door and it eliminated that sense of exploration and freedom that Ocarina did so well. As far as Wind Waker goes, I found Wind Waker to be so enjoyable due to the fun nature of the characters, along with the brilliant art style. I mean, you journey around with a talking boat and a pirate; in Twilight Princess, you have a twilight being who has you whipped. I myself am a collector of sorts, I love collecting things, so lets compare: Wind Waker offers the photography collection thing, where in you take pictures of everything, and enjoy the gallery. Twilight Princess has bugs. I'm sorry but I just can't even compare these. One offers insight into your journey, something which coincides with your adventure; however, the other is just a distraction (not to mention the useless reward). Wind Waker had over 50 (I believe) island to explore, and it was great fun exploring them... Twilight Princess has a big field and a few random caves. Again, I could go on, and on with comparisons but the bottom line is that I enjoyed Wind Waker way more then Twilight Princess.

My bad about the misquote...even with the introduction of new items, characters, dungeons, gameplay mechanics, and lenght, you still place Twilight Princess in the disgrace category.

TSComboWhat do you expect from a sequel? Rehashed dungeons? Rehashed characters? A lot of the items were rehashed, but several were new. Yes, they were interesting items, but typically, you don't use them a whole lot whilst others are just plain useless (Hawkeye, anyone?). There aren't too many new game mechanics, as transforming at will was done in Majora's Mask (even then, you had the option to switch between 4 different forms). The length wasn't all too impressive, as Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess had about the same length for the main quest (30-40 hours).
