Doubt it, most likely days, but since the game will probably leaked a week before hand, pirates will have plenty of time to release the cracked version when the game actually releases. Plus, PC gamers have been waiting a long time for the PC version anyways, many of them are probably pissed off enough to wait a bit longer. All the hardcore fans would have gotten it for a console already.

xionvalkyrie

Nah. I doubt that very much. Chaos Theory took over 400 days to crack for example. And with Ubi's DRM it's not just about fooling the game to drop the net check, but also hackers will have to completely rewrite the save game system. It's a very new and different kind of DRM, I can guarantee you that it definitly won't be cracked quicly.

Btw...AC2 is the smallest of Ubi's march games, Settlers 7 and Silent Hunter 5 will be much bigger sellers and there are no console alternatives there for "hardcore to get it for"

AC1 also had a problem with the leaked version being just a few hours, people who downloaded that got owned and had to download again. Bioshock was also a chore to crack with it's online verification.

I think it's not about how many days it will take, I am sure there will be some that will be able to crack ealier but then there will be many who will not be so lucky and continue to have problems. I think making the cracking process more complicated could potentially turn off some people although for the people who really want to play, a few hours of cracking headaches are prolly worth it to save $60.

just wait till ms puts this into xbl. will do nothing but drive piracy, they should have just made it require steam that would work better and not piss so many people off.

Chaos Theory was not like a "drug" aka GTA4....GTA4 had HUGE problems with cracking the infamous camera dizziness....and loads of problems....But see how the HUGE demand for GTA pressed the scene to hack the game fast.... ETW is on STEAM but demand pressed it to be hacked days before the release.... If the scene sees an insane demand they will be cracked....very fast

Half life games have had those infamous unresponsive enemies which can seemingly never be flawlessly cracked. A minor annoyance as restarting the game mostly solves it but still an annoyance nonetheless.

The ingenious ways never end. I installed grid and pathced it to the latest one and started to get crashes just before a race was about to start. I gave up on the game after troubshooting for quite some time and decided to try it again when I get windows 7. So I got windows 7 but got the same problem again. That made me think that the problem may not be with the game. I ultimately found out that it was the no-cd crack that was doing all the problem, the first time ever that I had such a problem with a crack. My options were to go to a previous patch or just insert the dvd to play, only the latest patch was causing the problems with the crack.

See how much of an unnecessary problem it caused for a legit buyer? Sure had I followed only the given instructions and not used the crack, there would have been no problems. But this is not what PC gaming is about, it's about the customization you get, the ability to play without a CD is one of the several advantages I see of PC gaming over console. The patch release notes should have informed that you cant use a no-cd crack, it is quite shocking that the devs thought that only pirates play with cracks.:|

I sure pirates will find a way around this DRM, while people who actually buy AC2 and upcoming Ubisoft games will suffer. Good job Ubisoft.:|

That's why I don't bother with PC games any more. Too much of a hassle and what is it with all these different services. It is becoming saturated. You got Secure Rom, Steam, games for windows live, gamespy, EA online, Impulse, xfire, Relic software and the list goes on. So many userids and passwords to keep track of.

And I bet you do but yet that is all you can say? Gone are the days of installing a game and just playing it without any strings attached.

Every game update I downloaded for the 360 games took less than a minute to install. Compare that to patching Company of Heroes or Steam games.

So it took you hours to patch CoH? Or Steam? What are you on? A Celeron?

Sounds more like they are trying to kill their presence on PC.

PC gaming will live on, but once people get word of this; they will avoid Ubisoft like the Starforce days.

Ok, so you do admit it's no longer a plug-and-play experience? Oh and patching Steam games takes as long as your Internet connection speed makes it, just like on consoles, but of course in SW my personal experience > your personal experience, amirite?

I can confirm it is currently listed for $59.99 on steam. 6 months late ---> horrible drm ---> higher cost, looks like Ubi is trying to make people hate them.

Does this mean that Ubi are dissatisfied with other online rights management platforms like Steam?
There's a hint of that, although Ubi are keen to praise Valve's online platform. "We think what Steam has done is amazingly valid, but aren't Steam games cracked amazingly fast?

You know what is funny of this? Pirates will always find a way for remove the DRM and get away with what they want; meanwhile, legal customers will have to suffer because of this. I remember I saw that pc gaming isn't dying because of lack of games but it may die because developers and publishers do this. Miroku32
this, the easier it is to play, the more likely people will buy it, in fact by putting heavier and heavier DRM's on things means more people will rather steal it since its not only free but more convenient for them. If anything PC gaming should stick with steam, that way its easy to buy and play most of the time.

Dude Xbox game patches are usually like 1MB and less. After installing company of heroes you have to download over 1GB of patches.

The back lash will be huge and the DRM will go away. Look at the first Mass Effect, now the second. Or how bout the first Bioshock and now the second. DRM never works. Only ends up hurting the company and paid users. You would think ubisoft would know this.
