Uncharted 2 Thread (Keep it here) GS - 9.5, Metacritic - 96!

I feel sad for the 360 owners who dont have a PS3 they wont get to have this amazing game in there collection. It must be amazing if adam from G4TV said its the best single player game he has ever played he never said that about any game damn this could be history in the making.

lol. It's accurate -- and it adds the kicks and giggles aspect to it. It was just strange, the pistol was the most effective weapon in the entire game. If you don't aim for the head, you're practically putting entire clips into people. So frustrating. That's really the only thing I care about in terms of improvements, fix that issue and I'm a happy gamer. :P

Well this is an PS3 exclusive and not an XBOX exclusive. Just kidding as I think there are almost as many PS3 users on here than XBOX users even though XBOX has a lot more units sold. This thread will grow fast the main reviews just starting coming today.

Yeah,I asked the mods in this thread if they had any idea when the GS review will come out. I guess it won't be out until Oct. 13th. Man I don't think this forum could survive that long without knowing.

Its still enjoyable to me as well. It just has balance issues that are never addressed which is bothersome. Maybe its just me but the fact that I killed the last boss in the game withtwo limit breaks and 1 spell is rather ridiculous to me and the fact that the third boss was defeated in 40 seconds screams poor balance to me as well.

I knew this game was gonna be awesome, but these scores are insane! :D As soon as it arrives through my door, I'm shutting myself in and won't be moving from my chair for at least 12 hours :P

My Uncharted 2 hype started out as nothing and slowly worked its way up to being something I'm interested in playing and the reviews help support that however forgive me if I dampen the mood and say I really take most of these reviews with a grain of salt. When you have reviewers saying GTA4 has emmy worthy writing you have to know what and what not to trust. Alot of things these reviewers willl all have in common is that they are hype driven action junkies and Uncharted 2 is exactly that (and yes people, I know that that is what it is trying to achieve and that isn't bad). I saw all the absurdly high reviews coming on that principal and some of the comments are the type of thing they shouldn't be making so early. How many playthroughs do you think it should take to call a game "greatest sp campaign ever"? Obviously I'm dampening the fun so I'll stop but let's not let ourselves get too carried away with the reviews.

That's just it, I avoided doing all of that my first playthrough when I could have easily. Demolished everything my second playthrough. But the earlier FFs I played didn't allow for that extreme level of mulnipulation. Couldn't do it in 5 (even with ranger + spellblade+ dual wield), no chance in hell of doing it in 3 etc. Still though, could be worse, it could be FF8 bad lol.

Yes, the game I am fully expecting to be game of the Year and am very interested in playing is the one I'm damage controlling. Not like I think GTA4, MGS4, or SMG have way inflated scores as well :roll:

Not an Uncharted 2 thing more so than an industry hate thing but feel free to call it damage control. If Uncharted 2 getting great scores and me wanting to play it is DC, then I'm pretty sure that's a good thing.

No, I'm saying that you have to be careful on what you draw quotes from and what you trust since your reviewing sample has an obvious bias.(they are action junkies and this is a game for action junkies)I don't think I'm wrong and I don't doubt UN2 is great.

'Bout time this got a sticky. Can't say I really understand the levels of hype and praise for this game though. The first Uncharted was undoubtedly a fun game, but didn't really go much beyond that. From what I've seen so far, Uncharted 2 is very much like the first game, with no real changes to the core mechanics to speak of. Is it really THAT much better than the first game? Are extra action setpieces and the addition of multiplayer really enough to make this sequel stand out THAT much? Somehow, I don't think so. I guess I'll have play it to see, but I'm not expecting a revolution or a masterpiece or anything. Silent-Hal

These are just video games and should be treated as such. I don't think you will find a magnificent masterpiece that is going to revolutionize the world in games. They are just meant to be enjoyed forwhat they are and that is entertainment. I'm sure the reviews might be a little to generous at times but I mean we aren't talking about Masterpiece books or Paintings here that have to be picked over and over with a microscope.

I don't see why that should stop people from giving a critical look at them. If all it is for is entertainment and enjoyment why on earth is the tension in this thread about the game getting a 10, (which I have now a nagging feeling it will) even a big deal? I think that the view on games is so negative and a part of that comes from the reviewers and the fanbase. Light hearted and cute = not cool, action packed with explosions = awesome. That is the general thought process of the people reviewing the games and I don't think these are the guys I want to trust with my buying habits. Its not an Uncharted 2 thing at all, its simply something I don't like about the people who review games.

I mean to me Uncharted is more about the plot and characters than the actual shooting well at least that is what got me so wrapped into the first game. Cit doesn't really have any reviews. SMG and LBP were hype driven as well. Both didn't deserve there scores (especially LBP but now isn't the time or place) but 3 games getting good scores doesn't deteriorate the point. The point wasn't these games aren't capable of getting good scores. The point was these games are looked at as inferior to the action junkie games. I don't think I'm wrong. I think if I asked every reviewer which game they would rather play, SMG or UN2, majority would pick UN2. Also, I think I give critics too much credit for having an open mind, I give them the benefit of the doubt and every review I read just makes me wonder why I do. The tone, the content, the enthusiam, its not there when they aren't playing action or "mature" themes. Is it a taste thing? Quite possibly, which is fine except that taste is never balanced out on the staff. If one part of the staff likes it, you know every other one is a carbon copy. This doesn't make for good fair reviews even when the staff is trying to be objective (which most of the time they aren't)

Well most games are action based in some way so just because they have real guns is kind of stupid to detract from them. Also, there have been some casual games given good reviewsand most of the WII is that. Hey bad reviews won't stop me from getting Afrika as I think it will be a great break from all the shooing type/action/platform games I have. Yes unfortunately games like Donkey Kong, Joust, Dig Dug, MS Pac Man, Mario and Sonic games seem to besuch a distant memory from they type of online deathmatch shooting games we see now a days.
