its because the transfer rate on the blu ray is higher allowing more pixel to be filled in smaller amount of time resulting in advanced codec which then allows for higher resolutions.

I have Unchared preordered and all, but. . . what? Bluray is just a storage system. The only time that it really affects the game is like in MGS4 where they didn't want to compress certain files too much (like all of the sounds and music) to help it run a little better. Uncharted 2, as awesome as it looks, won't need all of the space.

not true. DVDs can be 1080p. They just don't have as much storage, so they don't put HD videos on dvds. Bluray is ABSOLUTELY nothing more than DVD EXCEPT that it has more space on the disc. THAT'S it.

That still doesn't change the fact that it probably will not need to load during the game if it is similar to Uncharted 1. I could care less of what the space is used for as long as it runs great which I have no doubt ND will succeed in.

so if you are conceding that the space is because of multiple copies of the data on the same disc to overcome the drive speed then wouldn't that mean it could be done on dvd as well maybe requiring only another disc. after all uncharted is not a free roam game so swapping wouldn't be much of an issue.

I'm not against Blu-Ray itself, now that it's won. I'm against Sony only putting a 2x's Blu-Ray drive in PS3's.

The PS3 has a standard HDD, a slower optical drive is moot (just look at Batman:AA). It was restricted by the fact that it came of 4 discs instead of one. The developer had to take extra time and expense to master the game for 4 discs. Not to mention that each copy sold costs the publisher a bit more vs one disc.
