I haven't seen any gameplay from Gears of War 3 that even matches the many epic moments in Uncharted 3. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll refrain from saying any of them, but I want to see any moment that's as epic as what was in Uncharted 3. If Epic's idea of a "wow" moment is standing there and shooting the eye of a giant boss, then they need some rethinking IMO. There's no doubt that Gears 3 is a great game, but I haven't seen anything that proves that its singleplayer is even remotely as good as Uncharted 3's.

i found both uc3 and gears 3 campaigns to be a little underwhelming, uncharted 3's has the bigger wow moments for sure, but i think gears 3 had the better pacing, i dunno its hard to say tho

'on rails' is as in, you don't have control over your character movements, not as in linear, although all rail games are linear..

on rails would mean that you're not in control of movement, but in Uncharted you are in control of your movements. Uncharted's linearity is taken way out of context.

Not even close to being true, there's a ton of gameplay in Uncharted and you'd know that if you played it.

I think as a pure 3rd person shooter gears 3 is better, but UC3 is so much more than a 3rd person shooter. I think over all I liked them both the same. Both left me asking qestions in regard to the story, so in that aspect I was a little disappointed.

I can't speak for Gears 3, but I agree that they could have expanded a lot more on the ending for Uncharted 3. It's still a great story though, and what do you mean by "pure" 3rd person shooter?

I enjoyed Gears 3 a lot more. Has so much more content than Uncharted. Even the campaign, there might not had been as many "wow" factors in it as in Uncharted, but the ones in Uncharted felt forced a lot of the time.

Gears 3 -thick smoke effects stay on screen for like 30 seconds. compared to UC3's 1 second smoke effects to save precious GPU time -Shadows are the best ever in consoles. compared to alligator teeth shadows in UC3 -God Rays are the best on consoles next to Crysis 2. compared to UC3's baked god rays -More enemies on screen, 4 player split-screen, bodies dont disappear in multiplayer. -the grenade actually explodes. unlike UC3 grenades which just blur and give off a 1 second smoke effect that magically vanish.....all to save precious GPU time -if you shoot objects off the map, your bullet actually penetrates and give off dust effects. in UC3, shoot textures off the map and your bullet goes through -Gears 3 have no AA which MLAA cost just as much as no AA

Gears 3 was more action packed, in Uncharted 3 the shooting sections were spaced out very well I think. In gears 3 it was just all you did, which was not bad considering gears does it very well :P

Actually, it's pure win. If you read my original comment, I asked for users to send me any evidence that proves that Gears of War 3 is technically superior to Uncharted 3. Preferably "epic" moments. Most people in the thread seem to agree that Gears 3 doesn't have the technical prowess that Uncharted 3 does.

Yes, Uncharted 3 is so by far more superior technically than Gears 3, it's like comparing a game made for the intellivision and one made for thecomming gen of console hardware.

Same level of hardware, same level of graphics, just let it go.

UC3 is using pre rendered video clips for cut scenes, no AA, barely HD, linear and small levels. It has excellent presentation values but as for technical, it's at best on the level with Gears 3.

True, Gears is much more focused on shooting. The sections were spaced out, but it was still annoying when playing on Hard difficulty and you have 80 waves of enemies coming at you from all directions ~_~. Gears 3 is slower-paced and more focused on combat so I doubt it had any of those problems.

I know it's using pre rendered clips for cutscenes, but just look at the sand in the many levels in the desert. It's just stunning. Also, Uncharted 3 uses MLAA and is 720p HD. There is no "barely HD", and the scale of the levels has certainly risen from Uncharted 2 to 3. It's not like Gears 3 is open world, it's mostly the same as Uncharted 3 level size-wise.

There is a level with many smoke effects in Uncharted 3. The smoke stays there if it's necessary, that's pretty much it. The shadows are fine in Uncharted 3, but I agree that it could have done better without the jaggies. The lighting in Uncharted 3 was very good, there aren't even many God Rays in Uncharted 3 because the environment isn't fit for them (usually). Gears of War 3 is more combat-focused so of course there'd be more enemies on screen, and is it really necessary to bring up the point that bodies don't disappear in Gears 3? It's just a body :P The grenades explode in Uncharted 3, they only give off a "stun" affect when some different enemies throw them, I guess they're different types of grenades. I'm not sure about the bullet thing, and your last point makes no sense :P. Those are all small points that pale in comparison to the set pieces in Uncharted 3.

Naw, just look around the thread, and even the comment above you, people agree with me ;) and I'm not believing the hype if I'm stating my thoughts after having played the game ;). That statement would only be true if the games I'm talking about weren't out yet.

So you are talking about tech and yet you never give any examples. Tech includes the engines, the lighting, the fps, the AA and so forth. All you say is UC3 has more epic moments, as in scripted events, which really has jack to do with the tech.

Not right, I asked people to give me moments in the game that are as stunning as those in Uncharted 3. Epic moments have everything to do with tech since there are various moments that are absolutely stunning in Uncharted 3 and show off the tech. I was specifically talking to those who have already played the two games (Uncharted 3 and Gears of War 3).

Before reading your comment, I just knew it would be negative :P

Nope. I don't make response threads. They're two different topics, I'm asking for set pieces or moments that prove that Gears 3 can match Uncharted 3, that thread talks about Uncharted 3 being a contender for graphics king. I'd say the other thread is more in-depth in tech while mine is more about the overall experience.

That's the moment I was talking about. That was amazing, I still find it hard to believe that these are 256mb graphics cards these games are running on.

[QUOTE="millerlight89"]So you are talking about tech and yet you never give any examples. Tech includes the engines, the lighting, the fps, the AA and so forth. All you say is UC3 has more epic moments, as in scripted events, which really has jack to do with the tech. XVision84

Yea and I knew this thread would be a whole lot of wrong, and I was proven right. Figure out what technology both games have, and try again. Just because UC3 has more "epic" scripted events does not mean UC3 is superior in the tech department. There was nothing negative about my comment, you just see it that way because I pointed out the pitiful way tech is described in the op.

You didn't play Geow3?

XVision84

Nope, I didn't play Gears of War 3 because I don't have an Xbox 360.

...and yet you create a thread not only declaring uc3 to be better but then have the gall to use terms such as "by far" and "more superior"

You might be in control of your character in U3 but its pointless to actually have that control when all you do is walk. There are times when I was playing it and thought "why do they give me control here" its like they just do it so people can't say you don't have control

Advid-Gamer

There are many times where you are given the controller and just walk around for the sake of being immersed in the environment, and one of those moments just stunned me (I'll leave you guessing about what moment I'm talking about :P). I agree that sometimes there have been instances where they could have just made cutscenes, but I just like playing the moments, even if it's only pushing the joystick up ;).

If you are referring to the walk in the desert, I can't believe u liked that. I was gritting my teeth thinking why is this not just a cut scene what's the point here?

I liked that for the sheer sense of scale. It was linear, I'll give you that, but it was still stunning. I would say that Uncharted's linearity did stick out a little more in Uncharted 3 than the other Uncharted games, but I don't mind that so it wasn't a problem for me.

Then how on Earth can you even reasonably compare the two? I mean, unless you're just heavily biased towards...oh, I've answered my own question.

I said nothing about scripted, all I said was epic. You only assumed that ;) I asked for any moments in the game that show off Gears of War 3's tech that stick out more than Uncharted 3. There's nothing wrong with that.

Wow, people are on high guard trying to take me down O_o I asked for moments in Gears 3 showing its tech that stick out more than Uncharted 3. People could not find any, and I don't need to actually play the game in order to see gameplay.

I have not played either, but I have beaten Gears 2 and I played the demo for Uncharted 2 when I was updating a PS3 for the Youth Center. I didn't like Uncharted 2 much at all. It felt incredibly linear, and from what I've seen, the rest of it looked about the same. But then, I didn't care extensively for Gears either. But I'm assuming that both games expanded on what they had, so I would hope that both Gears 3 and Uncharted 3 are both great games.

Meh, haven't yet played UC3 so I'm not going to bother making a claim I can't back up with actual experience.

No there isn't, but you don't seem to know what technology means in terms of games. The whole game is one massive scripted event, so don't even try and play the I wasn't talking about that card.

The problem is U2 is linear but very very focused story wise. U3 is even more linear almost and is a shambles. The story and pacing are very disjointed and all over the place.

You're a manchild that has no real arguement, bias is all I see. This forum doesn't discuss games, it's all about the metagame. It seems it's you who doesn't get it.

Manchild? Dear god, are you having a bad day or something? Or have you not seen the technical comparisons of games in System Wars ever since the beginning of System Wars? I would only be biased if I wasn't willing to accept that Gears 3 is better than Uncharted 3. From what I've seen, it isn't, but if I can be proven otherwise, then I'd gladly state otherwise.
