Uncharted 3 is Graphics King based on Digital Foundry

it barely looks better than Doom 3 or Half life 2, console gamers have insanely low standards

After watching my bro play Uncharted 3 last night. I can easily say it's one of the best games visually due to the high consistency. Of course there are better looking PC games, but the consistent quality Uncharted 3 brings to the table overall is top notch. It's not like Battlefield 3 where you have some amazing looking visuals contrasted by random crap textures. The art design, textures, and lighting are amazing.

And I know what you're gonna say, "But mystic, BF3's lighting is the best".

And you're right, BF3's lighting system certainly is the best, but one serious thing I have to fault BF3's lighting is DICE mixing dynamic and pre-baked lighting. You can blow out the lights, but you'll still see some of the lighting across the room from where you blew the light out. That was a horrible thing to do. Why? Because, what's the point of taking a performance hit by making the lights dynamic if ur just gonna pre-baked it into the walls anyways? If you're gonna bake it in, fine, but DICE made a bad decision baking in the lights after making them dynamic just to make things seem a little brighter. The end result is silly where you have a lit room with no lights in it, which kills the whole point of shooting the lights out in the first place which would've made a great tactic. And even then it doesn't sound like a big deal, but I see it ALL the time, so it's quite a noticeable flaw.

But maybe I'm going to hard on it, because I'm comparing U3's storyline to BF3's multiplayer. If I compared it to BF3's campaign, it'd probably be no match. But it's hard for me to wanna compare it to BF3's campaign since it's design is so craptastic. All I know is the high consistency of U3's keep you compelled where as BF3's highly inconsistent visuals break me out of the immersion here and there. I say that as a person who loves BF3 and hasn't even played U3 yet, only watched.

Don't get me wrong though, when it comes down to it, many games on PC trump Uncharted 3's visual fidelity. But when it comes to high fidelity along with consistency, Uncharted 3 is hard to beat. Even the almighty Crysis/2 has issues with consistency.

I think Gears 3 deserves a lot of praise. Mostly because their gameplay priority was above of graphics. They designed the whole campaign around a 4 player component with 2 player split-screen, as well as a whole horde mode filled with a huge amount of creatures. Still they've managed to make the game look nice.

Lots of PC games have higher rez (such as any game made in the last 10 years) but I can't think of even 1 PC game that has the same level of polish and uses the hardware to its full potential.

On a console? Maybe. The PC still has it beat by a considerable margin though. It's not really a contest.

I can completely agree with that. I couldn't even believe they were able to improve the graphics and tech from U2.. But they did in every way.

The game definitely took my breath away on a number of occasions.

assassins creed games look great on PC, but not on consoles, any console port with the knobs turned up looks better than UC3, Bulletstorm looks amazing on PC for example and its a console port plain and simple

and i like how you said PC graphics are not that good and need to upgrade every year, nice going ignoring PS3 was $600 at launch and any $600 PC from 2006-7 is alot more powerful than both consoles
