barely even playing? oh lord.
haters gon' hate, i guess.
All I see is scripted events.so what if it's scripted? tell me one game where "because of player choice, and physics, your character is left hanging outside a falling cargo plane". there's none. ND set out to make a cinematic experience. Deus Ex does not give off the cinematic fidelity, camera angles, etc. of Uncharted. hate all you want, but ND made this game to be scripted, because they want to tell a specific story. this is not Mass Effect.
much like Soul Reaver, Max Payne, etc. story-driven games are meant to be scripted. the devs want to tell a story, they want to tell it in a certain way, and as players we are given the chance to experience the story that they created.

That whole section look like it took no skill...this one feels more like a movie than a game. they might as well just do another heavy rain

There's nothing wrong with scripting in and of itself. But that entire section was scripted. The player had as little control as possible. FYI, Mass Effect is veyer scripted as well. And that much scripting is boring.
Right, and just like Uncharted 2, I bet I'll only be able to play this game once because of how scripted it is.[QUOTE="Luxen90"]
[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]
My God, could that Uncharted 3 demo have been anymore scripted? You're barely even playing at this point.
DarkLink77
Yeah I agree. I even find scripted events boring on first playthrough of a game.
I thought Uncharted 2 was bad for being overly scripted, but based on the last two gameplay videos, it looks like they are really pushing scripted sequences on you more than ever in Uncharted 3. I wonder if the story will actually manage to be half decent this time or if it will fail like Uncharted 2's

lol little control?
besides the beginning (a cutscene with Drake and Elena), everything is happening in real-time.
the jeep, you control it.
the crawling inside the vent, you control it.
the whole fiasco of catching the plane, you control it.
Drake punching the guy while being grabbed by the throat, you control it.
the fighting sequence on the ramp, you control it. just because it's a different camera angle does not mean it is not in game. it is.
you taking out the chutes, you control it.
Drake trying to avoid cargo as they're falling, you control it.
all the other moments, like Drake latching on to the tires, or Drake falling off the plane, are there for cinematic purposes. you don't expect everything to be controllable.
at least in Uncharted games, they let you play in these big moments, in real-time. the falling building, the train section blow-up in Uncharted 2, etc.

So? Video games take skill, but in this case it's just pure cinematic action (for this scene at least).
Oh, this again. I suppose I'll just repeat my thoughts:

Yeah, Unchaarted is supposed to be to be very cinematic game. The idiea is to carry on the spirit of movies like Indiana Jones ect.You can't do that without some awesome scripted events. Whats your point ?
There is nothing impressive about gears of war 3. It is outdated with some game mechanics that uncharted 3 outright is superior. I don't understand why I have to give gears of war 3 a fair shake when I have no interest in the game at all. The game similar to mass effect 3 has zero appeal to me since the game doesn't have an appealling atmosphere (I think that indiana jones esque game is a much more appealling title but I am not one for gritty war games besides halo series. The comparisions are really manifested that they are both exclusive titles but there is nothing similar to them at all.

But each of those sequences limits your control options severely. When you're catching up to the plane in the jeep, all you can do is press left or right. When you're climbing through the vent, the only way to progress is press forward. I'm assuming you are limited to two seperate buttons when the goon grabs you and when you fight him, you probably only have square and triangle that does anything while you move around. Taking out the shoots limits you to only triangle. Dodging the luggage seems pointless because that sequence is scripted so that you fall out anyways.
All in all, Uncharted is a game in which contextlimits your gameplay. Telling a compelling story is definately Naughty Dog's main focus and the gameplay is the afterthought
Well, that's the main draw of it, but the game mechanics are polished and very good as well and it just complements the cinematic feel of the game. Why are people acting new about uncharted? you know it's about cinematics

so tell me, which game can offer you the same cinematic experience with a fully, controllable character? so what do you want with the vent? you want a branching-path vent where you can go anywhere inside the plane, you want a fully controllable jeep where you can latch on wherever on the plane, when the goon grabs Drake you want full access to kicks and punches and shoryuken and you want to be able to get off the goon's hold and kill him with a shotgun, when the cargo falss you want to be able to dodge it completely since you're so good and if you're not you will then be dropped off and you want to fully control which cargo to grab on to while you're falling, and everything is affectedd by physice so you never know what acrgo might fall off or not?
tell me one game that can do all these, in just 6 minutes?
newsflash: there's none.
stop asking for the impossible.
with this sequence, you can either melee him, shoot him, or avoid him and run past him.
it's not like Uncharted does not give players some choices.
Well in any case, I liked it. I'm probably going to have to wait till Christmas to grab this up though.
Isnt it fair to say that Uncharted does everything Gears of War does and more? I mean the controls are essentially the same, over the shoulder shooting, yada, yada, but with platforming elements and puzzles. Gears of Wars is a straight shooter... An awesome game, easily my favorite Xbox franchise, but would you consider that a fair statement if you've played both? carljohnson3456
Well, Gears does have a hell of a lot more weapon and enemy variety (especially with the Lambent now). Hopefully Uncharted 3 will try to spice things up in those departments this time around (I know it's harder given the real world setting). It felt like there were only 3 different guns and 3 different enemies in Uncharted 2

also, Uncharted is not all about cover and shoot everything that moves.

It does have collectibles, COG tags. Thanks to this, I'm getting Gears 3 over Uncharted 3. I'm tired of games trying to be movies. I'm tired of being torn away from control every minute.

Gears 3 is still a great choice :) though Uncharted has always been like this, you should've expected it :P
Wow, just when I think Naughty Dog has already hit their prime with Uncharted 2, they come out and release footage like this.
Honestly, in my 2+ decades of gaming, no other developer that I've seen has the talent that Naughty Dog has.
I thought Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was an amazing game, one of my favorite PS3 titles, and I had a hard time believing that ND would be able to surpass it with the sequel. Then UC2 came out, and they surpassed it in almost every conceivable way. Then I've been sitting here thinking, okay, Uncharted 2: Drake's Fortune is one of my favorite games of all time, one of the highest Metacritic games of all time, and has so much polish and little room for improvement. It's not even that I thought that ND was incapable of improving on UC2, but I just couldn't see how they could harness the power of the PS3 any more effectively then they already had.
Then they come out and release a video like this, completely crushing my already high expectations. These guys are seriously as good as it gets, and their talent is unmatched. Everything from artistic design, technical design, programming, just everything. Have you ever noticed how these Uncharted games don't even have mandatory installs and have no loading times? It's just mind boggling how good Naughty Dog is, every developer in the world could learn from them.
