Uncharted better than Grand Theft Auto 4? (Now with Poll)

Now before you rip my head off, please hear me out...

When I compare these two titles I find myself looking at Uncharted as the overall better game. I know I know they are totally different genres but I'm not looking at both games that way Im looking at what I got out of them. Uncharted I felt delievered better and tighter controls, implemented the cover system much more effective. But it doesnt stop at that the story I felt was more compelling then what was presented in GTA 4, the characters were far more enjoyable to listen to and get to know.

Never did I feel like putting the controller down and walking away as I did with GTA4 which is probably the biggest thing that stands out to me. I just felt that Grand Theft Auto 4 kind of dragged on after awhile, were as Uncharted I hoped it would never end, which unfortunately it did pretty soon.

I really dont want to touch too much on the graphics between the two since its highly unfair to GTA 4 considering the scope of the game.

When its all said and done I would rather fork over 60 bucks for the 10 hour experience I got from Uncharted then the 25-30 hours I got from GTA 4, but yea thats my take on the two, now disagree with me all you want because hey this is what this place is all about, am I right?

Uncharted is better in terms of graphics, cover system, but not its weapons. Weapons in uncharted didn't seem like they did much damage to the rebels.

GTA IV isnt even the same type of a game, there's no way to compare them.

if this is about gta 4's weapon selection, then that's a joke in itself compared too previous games.

I see what you are saying. I actually found the story in GTAIV to be very compelling. Very reminescent of real life. Many different contacts, some friends some not, coming together to help you in a struggle against your own demons. The most epic mission was Three Leaf Clover. I like the GTA games for atmosphere. I love listening to the talk radio in the car to hear Lazlow or Bastions antics. I love to have the cops chase me for an hour with six stars. I like doing side missions. I honestly think that everyone expected it to be, Life: The Game. Although, I don't doubt that GTA will evolve into that eventually.

actually, i wouldn't of liked gta 4 nearly as much if it wernet for roman and niko. especially niko's borat like voice.

How can you even compare a sandbox title and an action title?

Anyway if you could compare then Uncharted loses, at least for me. I played through Uncharted twice in about 17 to 20 hours(or so) I put in over 100 hours into GTA(not counting online) and am still only 85% or so finished.

Uncharted was the definition of generic. It ripped off several movies and characters, yet it wasn't as nearly as compelling as any of them. Obviously, I'm just stating the majority opinion that GTA IV is vastly superior, as you can see by comparing the overall review scores for both.

Man the Three Leaf Clover mission was amazing, I honestly thought from that point on things were gonna heat up big time but I felt things cooled off quite a bit after that, which made me very disapointed.

I hope people dont take my first post as an insult to GTA4, I liked the game a lot an easy AAA title in my book.

Well we can agree to disagree then because I felt it was mediocre compared to San Andreas.

I liked uncharted alot, it was a breath of fresh air, the last tomb raiders sucked and this was a nice turning point in the genre, the cover system was well used and the gunfight's were action packed.

More than I can say about gta4's gunplay, it was way too easy, just have too use a pistol and aim for the head and bang, dead people everywhere.

what exact kind of tv's have you played on? my uncharted looks like that if not better... that's not even a truly great screen shot. as for that gta screen, I never remember niko having that kind of hair.. I think that may be fake.

I respectfully disagree. Uncharted was the best game I've played this generation and it's in my top 5 favorite games. It didn't necessarily do anything groundbreaking, but all of the gameplay elements were rock solid, the story was very compelling and fun (if you understand its inspiration), and the cinematic presentation was second to none. That's not even mentioning that it's the best looking game on consoles (IMO). Can't wait for the sequel.

When I got too that point I felt that mission was way too easy compared to the big fuss people made of it on the boards...

seriously, i actually had a harder time with the cocain retrieval mission untill I found out what to do.

The only thing comparable between uncharted is the combat and cover system, which uncharted both does much better.

close quarters combat in gta 4 is a joke and a half, if they were going for realism they certainly failed hard there.

gta is superiour in every way (graphics is uncomparible since uncharted has small linear levels)... it´s a miracle that this game (GTA4) even runs.

Don´t get me wrong, Uncharted looks phenomenal and is a fun game.

Uncharted isnt better then GTAIV but Uncharted is damn good and a great game. And I was dissapointed by GTAIVs lack of Epic Missions, there were a few but not as many as SA or VC for that matter. Really wish they would of had crazier missions, and cut out the fat of "variety and dead space" in SA.

Do you always take gamespot's scores that serious ?

I know we are on GS forums , but the guy is having an argument with you and is backing it up with an average critic score including a lot of sources , only for you to make a weak attempt at a comeback by stating one person's opinion only !!!

I'm not saying which game is better , I'm just confused by a lot of people here at SW that take GS reviews too serious .

well yeah... its not hard too see uncharted rapes gta 4 in the visual department, but what I was discussing was gunplay and the use of the cover system in both.

For example, in uncharted the cover system felt natural, in gta 4 it just feels clunky, same as the shooting.

it's not about the ease of aiming or hitting a target either, I can take the m4 and nail the helicopter driver easily, its just how meh it feels to me.

Exactly one of the main problems i had with gta 4 is how un epic it felt compared too the last games.

at the end of it, it feels you havn't made any difference in the world, you don't get fame or fortune, controling mobs or gangs.

infact the only way too get a gang too do missions with you is too call Dwayne, and he only gives you 2 guys. compared too the 6 or so you got in san an.

The driving while shooting controls are broken compared too the last games, you cant aim your gun without firing off shots, there is something deffinetley wrong there.
