Uncharted series is the Gold Standard for Video Games

after experiencing the Nathan Drake collection I have come to the realization that Uncharted is THE reason that I play video games. I couldn't stop loving this touching, beautiful, fun and engaging game. From the moment the music swells on the title screen to the moment the credits roll, Uncharted 1-3 is a masterpiece. Anyone else agree?

It is a wonderful series whether they want to admit it or not, sure the original is very dated but 2 and 3 are both solid games.

But all Nintendo games are better.

So you want all games to have super simple/mediocre gameplay and generic stories that basically just rip off movies? Yuck.

Uncharted is the closest thing to movie quality characters, writing and set pieces you can get in a game. It's a brilliant series.

Personally, I couldn't get into the franchise. Its like a cheesy movie for a philistine. Guess that's why I do not own a PlayStation.

Completely agree, Uncharted 2 was one of the most mesmerising campaigns i've ever played. The atmosphere makes you want to enter the world of uncharted. I'm a PC gamer and I'd much prefer to have just this one gaming system but the sheer beauty of Uncharted is something which shouldn't be missing from the collection of any gaming enthusiasts.

There;s 4 Uncharted games and only 1 is great. It's merely a good series, nothing more.

Series better than Uncharted:

Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Bros., Final Fantasy, Persona, Halo, Street Fighter, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Age of Empires, Half Life, Diablo, Starcraft, SimCity, Mass Effect, Batman: Arkham, Grand Theft Auto.

This is just off the top of my head. Uncharted is a good series, nothing more. It wouldn't even enter Top 20 on an all time list.

It probably would actually. With the current gaming media n all. Don't even think it deserves it, but Uncharted 2 rubbed off so much on the series as a whole that people forget how much worse the other two games are.

Even modern series there are way more than 20 series better than it.

I think Naughty Dog are deified for Last Of Us, if anything, rather than Uncharted.

@bobrossperm: I give Uncharted 2 its props because I adore it, but that was one good game six years ago, and not even one with any form of wide ranging impact or legacy like games in the other series listed have had. It was lightning in a bottle, a product of the moment- the right game at the right time, basically. It won't age well, because it's gimmick is constrained by the technology of its time, and that technology will only get better, and other games will do what it did better, even if they don't come off as as much of a revelation as it did back in the day.

The Last of Us is the Naughty Dog game we should be looking at if we want to include one in an all time greats list, and I say this as someone who appreciates Uncharted 2 far more.

Anyways, prepare to be bombarded by Uncharted/cinematic games haters. Personaly I like a cinematic game from now and then but they DEFINITELY shouldnt be standard. Gameplay is always more important

I would agree. But Uncharted 2 is still to this day considered one of the greatest games ever made by many. It's that game that elevates the series in peoples eyes because the other two games certainly don't. If the first one was on that level and 3 actually done something better than the second one, I'd start to see what people are talking about. As a whole series you're right, one great game isn't enough.

Listen, I love Uncharted and they are really great fucking games that I will always carry with me, but they are not masterpieces.

They are great really fun well made games. They only reason they still continue to be great fun well made games is because after all these years not many other games have come out that are as well made and fun engaging. Uncharted games dont really do anything special, but what they do is done really well.

At the end of the day each Uncharted game is a feel good experience, thats probably why people are still loving it today.

You clearly haven't played enough games. I've played UC 1-3, and can tell you that it really isn't a great series. It's just good. 8/10

I wouldn't say the gold standard, but they are very, very good games. They're also much better than the crap MS Studios pump out.

No... Just absolutely and unquestionably no. Uncharted is the absolute opposite of what I want out of a video game. Uncharted 2 is the number one worst experience I had with a game last gen. It's just a series of bad and questionable design choices.

I'd pick the souls games, Street Fighter, or something from Nintendo myself. I like my interaction to actually mean something in a game.

Maybe all the hype in system wars gave me unrealistic expectations, but I couldn't get into any of the Uncharted games. I played through probably the first hour of each one, and they felt like arcade games with no depth.

I've played every game in the Uncharted series. And while I have enjoyed them all, Uncharted is the most overrated series in video games.

A lot of arcade games have a great deal of gameplay depth actually. Uncharted cares very little about offering enjoyable gameplay or depth so it comes off as exceptionally dull. It's all presentation and very little about the player.

It's undoubtedly a AAA series...don't know about the gold standard

But Naughty Dog is probably the best dev in the industry right now though.
