There is an advantage using hdtv when playing certain fps/tps game. I was able to have a clearer view of opponents who were far away. Two games that come to mind are COD4 and Graw2. I use to use scopes on Graw 2 against opponents who were far away, but when I got my hdtv I was able to spot enemies without using a scope. Same goes for COD4 where I can easilly outkill opponents who are far away and normally wasn't able to detect from far distance including snipers without using a scope with my hdtv.
Other one is where some games are not sdtv friendly like Dead Rising where you can't read the text.
Besides that it's not a big deal to own a hdtv.
I have 20/20 vision. HD resolutions do not change the gameplay. I see everything just fine. Its never changed or handicapped anything in gameplay. I used to jack up Avant Game, GUFU, and play online in Halo to a level 46 no problem. If you need higher resolutions to see better I'd recommend glasses over a $500+ TV.
Actually it kind of does affect gameplay, well in Madden 08 at least I remember playing on a 19in SDTV and since the TV was a 4:3 it would cut out my outside recievers, so it basically made the out route not worth picking since you couldn't see how the corner was positioned but with an HDTV the moment you step back to pass the camera zooms out perfectly were you can see the entire field.
but that's just one example, not sure if there's many more.
W1NGMAN-
You're aware you can zoom out before you hike the ball, you're aware the screen zooms out when you pass, you're aware even on a SDTV you can still set it to a ration outside of 4:3, you're aware that the up until Madden 06's Madden Challenge all Madden Pro's hated playing on HDTVs and only wanted to play on SDTV's. You are aware that is why we have the stupid easy field goal kicking now? Madden and HDTV's didn't really go together until they changed the field goal kicking man and even then its no different.

Yea I know you can zoom out before the ball is snapped, but I'm just talk about Madden 08 and how AFTER you hike the ball you couldn't see the corner or your reciever, so if he was playing a press zone cover 2 you were basically screwed if you attempted that out route.
And no I didn't know you could set a designed 4:3 tv to something else, wouldn't it make the picture even worse?
Here goes anyway.
Sony KDS-55A2000, Onkyo TX-SR600-something or other, Infinity Primus 5.1, some sort of 250GB USB HDD for musics n stuff. The rest is some sort of digital devilry consoles. Yes, I probably could've bought a smaller TV... At first you get this "holy **** games look like crap!" reaction. You notice all sorts of visual cheats and flaws you didn't before. There's just not enough details in games, and I doubt developers test their games on these humongous things. But I've gotten used to it.
C2D E6850, 4GB RAM, 8800 GTX. Old CRT because CRT's rock. And what I did is I bought a sound card with digital out and a dongle with optical out so I can transfer these sounds via some sort of craziness (a cable I think it's called) to my receiver. Can also hook up the graphicscard to my TV, but it sort of looks shoddier for whatever reason. As I said, CRT's rock. Also I get overscan for some stupid reason. And wireless mice and keyboards tend to not be 100% reliable. or 90% even. Also how the hell do you use a mouse and keyboard in your couch in a natural, comfortable way? You have to sit on the edge of the couch leaned over a table. It's just awkward. So I tend to sort of not play PC games in my couch despite being technically able to.

Yes you can see the corners of the WR's man. If he plays C2 you are not screwed. And it doesn't matter even if changing it from 4:3 makes the picture worse. Its still the same game. Framerate isn't affected neither is nothing else. HD resolutions are nothing but Eye Candy. They do not enhance or change the gameplay of a game at all.
Any game played on an SDTV plays 100% the same on an HDTV. Nothing changes but the quality of the picture.
here it is, its a pretty old pic, i dont have the wii and that vision cam anymore, other than that it still looks the same

It depends on the game. I don't have bad vision. I never had any problems with Halo as well.
There are some games where you have an advantage with seeing people better farther away. CoD4 is a perfect example. In the map Crash in COD4 you can't see people who are in the 2nd stairs of the building where Point A is at in domination when looking from the rooftop of the building by the plane crash. Only way you can detect them is by seeing their flash muzzle when they fire in sdtv. While playing in hdtv I was able to see them even though they were just like a dot from far distance.

Hence why I have 20/20 vision
Magic high resolutions don't improve my eyes past 20/20 I can see anything and everything perfectly. I stand by my claim. SD and HD. Gameplay is the same and that is a fact.
The only time it isn't is when you're on PC when bumped up resolution can cause a drop in framerate or performance.

There are some things that are harder to catch in sdtv compare to hdtv.
Another example is in the map Bog. From far away distance it's harder to catch ppl who camp on the crates from far away distance on sdtv than you would on hdtv.
Or how in Downpour if you stand on top of the metal building and you look over the little wooden shack that is behind between the greenhouse and the barn it barely shows on screen in sdtv while on hdtv you can see more clearly.

Okay thats just a ludicrious claim right there that absolutely makes no sense what so ever.
An Arcade Stick is superior to a controller for fighters because the Stick is more accurate and more precise. Not to mention you have one hand controller all the buttons with your hand laying over the buttons as you are able to hit them with more accuracy and precision.
The Arcade Stick changes gameplay because it gives you a superior input device. It is directly attritube to the control input of the game. You ever try to play a 360 grappler on a Control Pad? Good luck.
Tell me now. What affect on a game does an HDTV have?
Please tell me what it changes.
Playing any game on my roomates HDTV and then playing on my SDTV there is no difference in gameplay. Its the same thing. You're Arcade Stick analogy is just 100% wrong and this is coming from someone who has multiple sticks, knows how to build them, knows which parts ect are better ect.
So I'd appreciate it if you didn't use an analogy that is so incorrect.
You're only claim is a visual base which doesn't affect gameplay what so ever if one can see everything perfectly anyways.

I see the hdtv as the hori stick since you can see more clearly compare to sdtv which gives an advantage on certain fps/tps games. Like the examples I gave on the CoD4 maps I experienced from playing on sd and hdtv. If it is easier to see certain things from far distance on hdtv rather than in sdtv would it not be an advatage?

A TV is not a control input device man, period. It doesn't affect any input from your input device to your game.

The ONLY advantage that I see HDTV gives to players is just basketball gaems. Yes thats right, b-ball games. When I played NBA 2k6 on my SDTV, It was obvious the game was built for HD as the court was cut small and players continuosly leave the screen when the camera stops moving. All I could see was just the rim :| I couldn't find Shaq under the rim because the HD built game was cutting out the true resolution on my SDTV.

As an owner of both (see my blog), I'm glad to say you're flat wrong. whether I'm on a big SDTV or a big HDTV, I'm going to get the same number of kills in Halo 2 or Halo 3. Sure, HD makes things cleaner and sharper, but it wasn't that bad looking in the first place.No.
Let's look at a Hori HRAP arcade stick vs. a controller. Here's mine, slightly modded for PS3/360/PC compatability
This stick (and any stick) allows for:
another way to think about this:
Up until very recently, arcades employed nothing but big SDTVs of varying sizes. Fighters, shooters, action games. they all used SDTVs. Now imagine if those arcades suddenly switched to controllers.
There'd be riots because arcade sticks are simply irreplacable.
I can honestly say stepping down to controllers killed my passion for playing fighting games. too hard to push multiple buttons at once. inconsistent d-pad response.
I just got my HRAP 3 and now I see what I've been missing. But Halo 3 doesn't care if it's in SD or HD. and I can't think of one situation where I feel I got more kills playing Team Fortress 2 @ 1920x1200 than I would have at 1024x768 or less.
So no my friend, an arcade stick can has a much more dramatic impact on the gameplay experience of a gamer than the sharpness of a TV ever could. Though I'll agree that the resolution of a TV can have a great impact on the IMMERSION into a game. different issue, though.
Closing thought: I'd also say that a flight stick will have a greater impact on gameplay of a flying game than HD resolutions. Same with a driving wheel.
That's all I got for ya. But try it before saying something like that next time, k?
