More reason to never take EDGE seriously.

CoD4 would've been quite different had it not been for Halo 3, so no.[QUOTE="RR360DD"][QUOTE="Obviously_Right"]
Agree with most of it but Halo 3 needs to be swapped out for COD4.
Obviously_Right
The fvck? They launched, like, 90 days apart
Halo 3 beta launched loooong before that, back in April. The COD4 beta came in August, and the menus were literally a carbon copy. You can't deny the influence Halo had on it. CoD2 was so different to Halo, then IW make CoD4 and it end up very similat to Halo 3 in its setup.
Regardless, CoD 4 was an awesome game but Halo 3 still squashes it in content and overall quality.
[QUOTE="Kaz_Son"][QUOTE="SNIPER4321"] true FPS are PC FPS or those that primilary build with PC in mind Try StalkerSNIPER4321Now I see why everyone thinks you are a joke  enjoy 3 hour run of the mill wack a mole shooter with lots of cinematics:lol: So much fail. Sorry my world doesn't revolve around FPSs, I play mostly fighting games and action games. I've been playing FPSs since DOOM and I even played UT competitively at some point. There's no such thing as a "true FPS". There are just good FPSs and shitty ones, the platform they are on doesn't matter.
they should remove halo and add golden eye insteadI_AM_MEGATRON
No. This is a 'best of' list, not a 'most influential' one. Goldeneye was bad enough when it came out, today its unplayable.
Multi was fun though.

That's some mighty fine reaching there brah :P By that logic I can easily say that with Halo 4 they 343i made some big strides in the "CoD" direction. And even Reach with Bungie already showed some signs of it.Trying to deny it is some mighty fine reaching. Halo 3 was the BIG console shooter, so obviously IW looked to Bungie and their game. Then CoD took off, and it became the BIG console shooter, and then 343 looked to IW and their games.
I won't deny there are some CoD influences in Halo 4, so why are you denying there are Halo influences in CoD?
Too much Mario and Zelda.
Mario 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time is all it needs.. heck even link to the past and super mario world should replace SMG and Skyward Sword.
Usually Uncharted 2, MGS and a Final Fantasy game are always in top 15 charts on any site and magazine.
I think Edge been playing the Wii too much and not enough PC. They forgot a lot of killer PC games.
The ORANGE BOX and HALF LIFE 2?
HALF LIFE 2 is that GODLY, they had to AWARD it TWICE!
The list is just 15 games that got a 10/10 in Edge's history. The list isn't a greatest games of all time just the only games that Edge has ever given a 10.Like half of the list are games that could easily not be in there while there are various grand omissions.

What a horrendous list... Where's System Shock, Starcraft, Planescape Torment and many other games that defined the golden age of PC gaming!? Seriously, this list kinda stinks -- even if you just account console games.Â

I don't need to play Ryse to know that it's garbage. I know a turd when I see one, same way I don't need to taste a turd to know when it's a turd. Any true action game fanatic will tell you Ryse is garbage just from the videos we've seen so far. It doesn't hold a candle to true action games like Ninja Gaiden or DMC3. It's no wonder all the previews for it so far have been shit. I wouldn't hype that turd if I were you, you and other Lems are in for some serious disappointment if you think that game is gonna be good.Your butthurt is glorious.ÂWhat a garbage list. Because Halo 3 and CoD4 don't play anything alike from what I've experienced :P And that's a big PLUS for Halo 3 right there. It still did it's thing, had it's own set of rules and none of the crap CoD4 started (which was a good game ruined by the sequels really).Even if IW took some hints from Halo at that time they went on their own course and didn't apply them in a way that's evident (gameplay wise), like what Halo 4 did.Â
I don't mean gameplay, I mean the setup. Halo 3 nailed matchmaking, and CoD4 operated pretty much identically. Even small things like vetoing a map.
And Halo 4 is still Halo. The only influence on the gameplay would be the ordinance drops imo. I don't think loadouts make it play more like CoD, because all its doing is giving you the option when before the game chose a loadout for you.

Oh, I see.
So it's something like Gamespot's 7 Greatest games of the past 15 years:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Soul Calibur
Chrono Cross
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Grand Theft Auto 4
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Super Mario Galaxy 2
So is it most influential or best? The author doesn't really seem to know which he wants to talk about.
Good games but not the order I would put them in and it's missing a few key ones

Oh you mean that. Sure maybe, but only by analizing the code could we figure if they went the same route or not :P There are always multiple good solutions for those sort of "problems". But yeah sure, you could say IW took some hints from Bungie there.
Well there are the loadouts...and Ordinance Drops (ala Killstreaks), Custom Loadouts, Join game matches whenever you want (I'd say this a plus actually), Points System, Sprint Function, Tactical Package (ala Perks System) and finally Killcams (which I'm also not sure it's a CoD original/exclusive feature but whatever)!
These aren't carbon copies by any means, but they are clearly the same ideas adapted and applied to the Halo series.
Well I don't think its coincidence that the CoD4 online set up is identical. Even the beta was pretty much the same with a 3 map selection.
Ordinance drops are not quite the same as killstreaks. Unlike killstreaks, they don't promote camping because dying doesn't reset it :P
I actually think the join in progress thing is a negative. Points system is just what they had in Halo 3, so thats not from CoD. There were two ranks, one for each playlist. And the other was basically a system that just rewarded you for playing (which is all CoD does now). Sprint?lol really? Does Halo 4 have a killcam? Ive never even noticed, and yeah not sure either if CoD started that or not.

This isn't a game that redefines the genre: this is one that rolls it up and locks it away. May 2010

Kind of a bad list. Â There's a difference between "great game" and "influential game" and in the case of Zelda there are different games in the series besides OoT and SS to put on there.

Well, I do feel stupid for misreading that I'll admit. But even if it did say other wise (like "this isn't JUST"), I'd still say the same thing. Or in the case of wording, I'll ask "How CAN it?"I'm just very critical of SMG2. I like the game, but it is far from perfect.
