First off, the DPI of a mouse is totally irrelevant. Yes, that means your totally pimped out Razer mouse with 5.000 DPI and flashing lights, is essentially a 100 dollar piece of plastic with lights.
DPI stands for Dots Per Inch, and on a basic level means how many dots on the screen, your pointer moves. It has nothing to do with how precise the mouse is. All it does, is determine how fast the mouse sensitivty is by default. Nothing else. This is clever marketing by Razer, as stated by the marketing manager of SteelSeries.
The most popular, and widely used mice by CS players, is the Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0, and its variants. This mouse is so popular, that the design today is still being copied, and the mouse is still being rereleased. Its an 800 Dpi mouse.
The Logitech MX510 and 518 are also very popular, not on the MSI3.0 level, but still very popular.
Most dont use the drivers that come along with the mice either. The mouse for a CS or any other high level PC fps player, is like a scalpel for a surgeon, and they can get extremly religious about it.
Another totally different issue is mouse acceleration, but i wont be going into detail about that, you can google if you want to know what it is.
