Well that's probably because the source image for television is real life humans, scenery etc,  captured onto film. Whereas everything in a video game is built from the ground up in order to best resemble things from reality, probably built out of polygons in the game engine, then rendered etc.

That's your opinion, resolution is the thing I notice the most. Other things I don't generally care as much. As long as blacks and contrast are acceptable, I'm good.

It has NOTHING to do with image quality. TV at 480p or black and white still looks more realistic thay any game on any platform. Because it's a direct feed of reality. I can't believe you're this dense.

I don't give 2 sh1ts about that. I'm not a videophile, I don't notice if blacks are slighly not as deep, or if color accuracy is less than perfect. But I WILL notice resolution.

When it comes to image quality, yes, I favor resolution above everything else. Television at 720p looks more realistic than any game because of the source material, not because of image quality.

Plus not to mention ... 

if the output hardware (display) is the same, then surely differences will arrive from the input source quality? (DVD vs Blu Ray, Xbox 360/PS3 vs high end PC)

Surely, we all know and accept this.

And of course, the most high end gaming devices might suffer a loss of detail if shown on an insufficient quality display.
