I wonder if he meant it is a lot more powerful than the previous generation as in PS2, GC and XBox? No one refers to 360 and PS3 as previous gen. It's the current gen.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Considering Wii U is the generation after the wii, PS3, and 360; it would make sense to call them previous gen in relation to the Wii U.I wonder if he meant it is a lot more powerful than the previous generation as in PS2, GC and XBox? Mentioning that WiiU is more powerful than those systems makes about as much sense as mentioning that WiiU is more powerful than SEGA Saturn or Turbografx-16.
[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]Ep 3 on Wii U and PC only? :DChubbyGuy40
That would be so awesome.
If Ep3/HL3, by chance, releases in 2013 then this is likely. There would probably be ports to Sony and MS at a later date though.
I said to my friends as soon as I heard Nintendo was doing a current gen performance console, all the 3rd party developers will be rushing to add another platform to the dump list. Now you will be seeing PC/360/PS3/WiiU in most cross platform titles.
thats the idea. the vita could very well be added to that list also (it supports UE3 as far as i know) and if apple and co decide to catch up to vita in late 2012 then they could also be added. from a business standpoint 3rd parties are probably praying that MS and sony stay put for another few years. thats a big pool.I said to my friends as soon as I heard Nintendo was doing a current gen performance console, all the 3rd party developers will be rushing to add another platform to the dump list. it wont happen. if valve were just one small dev then ti would be a big possibility. but valve have steam and making HL3 exclusive to the wiiu does steam no favours. we may see a deal struck similar to the one valve and sony made though. get more ninty fans using steam...good stuff for valve.I think PC gamers would start shelling Valve if they released it as a Wii U exclusive, or even a timed exclusive (HL that is)
dxmcat
Well they aren't even talking about exclusives, just that the Wii U fits better into their scalability model. And because of Steam and the importance of the PC platform to Valve, I highly doubt they would make any sort of console exclusive.I think PC gamers would start shelling Valve if they released it as a Wii U exclusive, or even a timed exclusive (HL that is)

Interesting to hear that Valve is on board. I want me some Portal 1/2/3 Wii mote style, and I guess some Ep3/HL3. Mostly Portal though...Don't care for L4D :P

The PlayStation 3 did get some titles a year or two after they released on other systems. Same goes for the PC I believe.

I wouldn't be surprised. When Xbox 360 first came out, a lot of its first titles were ports of year old PC games. WiiU may do the same with current gen titles, relying on them while their exclusive projects are in the works.

gabe has been giving a lot of his enormous man-love to nintendo lately. i wonder if his company has something to do with the nintendo online which reggie said will be much more 'robust' than psn and xbox live.
I just remembered Nintendo talked about how the online on Wii U was going to be open and more based upon what third parties do rather than what Nintendo does (something like that). I just remembered the first thing I thought of was Valve and Steam. I would imagine since Nintendo's online is more based upon what the third parties choose to do rather than Nintendo themselves, Valve could do a lot with Steam on Wii U and probably can release all the free content they couldn't on the other consoles. Who's to say that Mods won't be on the list of things the Wii U can do as well?
The PlayStation 3 can do mods as well, right? We never really saw that take off, though.I just remembered Nintendo talked about how the online on Wii U was going to be open and more based upon what third parties do rather than what Nintendo does (something like that). Yeah, but the Wii U is a next gen console, making the previous gen, WII, PS3, 360. The next generation is slowly coming to current.I wonder if he meant it is a lot more powerful than the previous generation as in PS2, GC and XBox? No one refers to 360 and PS3 as previous gen. It's the current gen.

Mark Rein commented on this:
Valve likes the WiiU -- the idea of having full Steam support on WiiU excites me quite a bit! Valve rocks!Mark Reinhttp://twitter.com/#!/MarkRein/status/83671040521285632
Also in Newell's comments, it sounds like they're referring to all consoles, 360 and PS3 included. It's easier to say Wii than previous generation, so it would lead me to believe he's comparing it to all.

Yes that is true, Unreal 3 is the only one to do it. If I'm not mistaken however, the reason behind this is that it's hard to put in Mod support in any game because of some contract/agreement stuff with Sony. Don't quote me on it though. I guess (at least from what I heard on these forums) It also deals with DLC, Expansion, etc...
If the Wii U's online is as open as we hope, it probably wouldn't be that hard to get Mod support in a contract sense, and Nintendo isn't a company that supports DLC or Expansions.
Someone needs to tell Gabe that most 3rd party games don't sell well on Nintendo consoles.

...and? It's a brand new console. It matters little who made it, or the histroy behind the company. As shown with the PS3, a lot can change between generations.
Also, last time I checked, the SNES and NES had tons of third party games which sold well as a whole.

Well put, all Nintendo needs to do is market to the hardcore and get those multiplats and we'll have a 360/PS3 killer on our hands[QUOTE="AmayaPapaya"][QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"]

Way to go Nintendo. You definitely one upped Sony and MS by taking an extra gen to beat a soon to be last gen console. :roll:biggotorium, how many more Wiiu threads are you going to plaster on SW.
This is the Third one I know of within the past few hours.
And they all revolve around praising a rumor, then attacking anyone that disagrees.
And from a level 1 poster too..., my alternate account trolling senses are tingling.

Gabe, Gabe, Gabe....
They have always loved Nintendo. But like everything else, theres always that one imperfection/flaw that you can't ignore.
For them, that was the Wii. I will not make a joke on why, because I'd further delay Ep.3/HL3 if I did.
